Ever since I first read about Marauders and Stealth based battleships the thought has been rolling around in my head that these tools are only going to get misused. It would not at all be fair to stop these ships from being put out. However, when the stealth technology has been around long enough,(and it has)enterprising young individuals, like myself, would be developing countermeasures. Unfortunately my results thus far have been some what limited. The first method involves laser refraction at high frequency. Light passing through a cloaked vessel does not pass completely straight. Combining drone technology and fast low power lasers has proven effective. The drone scans the area and searchs for distortions in the visible light spectrum and when detected delivers continuous telemetry on said distortions. Obviously the limitations here are range and distortions not related to cloaked vessels. The added advantage was the drones had room to be fitted with target painters so effect a multipurpose tool for the combat inclined. At this point my concept is to expand the drone research for target linking and warp scrambling deployment. It would be very interesting to see if a fighter drone could be fitted with a interdiction sphere launcher or a sentry drone could be fitted with multiple ECM/ECCM technologies. The final dificulty is approval from the Gallente Council of Weapons and Warfare Compliance. The other more effective method I have developed is a nonmobile method in two forms. The first and most obvious method is a EWAR FEILD SATURATION Battery. As th ename suggests, you place the batery at a pos and the cloaked ships scouting for raids are decloacked and become a target for your sentry guns again. The second and more versatile Field Saturation Device is a battleship module. The new module takes some time to saturate the area so must maintain the same position for that amount of time. After the area is saturated the module goes into a lower energy maintainance mode to maintain the feild until turned off. the module effectively deploys on start locking the battleship in place and requires fuel to maintain. As an example of fuel, but one that proved not effective was ferrofluid. The idea was the ferrofluid would be attracted to the cloaked ship and stick to it. In trials it could not be dispersed as it would just cling to the dispersing ship. Other fuels are in testing now but current materials appear to be less optimal for detection unless energy emiting materials are used. Research thus far has avoid radioactive materials in the hope that more stable and less hazardous fuels could be found. These systems have not been perfected and may over time evolve into other base configurations as needed to design a competent means by which we can defeat the invisible menaces constantly flying around us unseen.

I love this post.
I don't know that I'm a fan of decloaker/painter drones. I think the idea of an imobilizing, slow-acting battleship module that decloaks people within X range where X = base range + Y time factor would be useful. Perhaps ten to fifteen minutes to saturate the grid. Should perhaps have fitting reqs of a large NOS. I LOVE the idea of the POS decloaker. It should not be instant but it should be relatively powerful/fast. Covert Ops ships deserver to be covert but you can see an F-117 in daylight. There should be something aside from bumping into it that will decloak a cloaked vessel. But it should NOT be fast and I still don't think it should involve drones.
Regardless. Your post pwns face. ------ Pain is weakness leaving the body.

This would be exploited the second it came out. People would use it to decloak people jumping before they load and kill them as quick. It's a gate camper's wet dream. The few instances where it would give a useful advantage to the rest of eve would be a decrease in dps. that alone would negate its effectiveness in all but the biggestblob fleets and they rarely have to worry much from cloaked ships. A neat idea and in a level playing field a good one but there are no level playing fields in eve.

Yeah, decloaking targets at gates would be the obvious use for this. Too bad the one unethical use is enough to kill the whole idea.

how about a dictor type bubble that can uncloak as well.

The Cloak at gates could be altered into a more serious "Just NOT THERE" type of effect whilest the implimentation of these Painter drones and the POS modules sounds very good IMO. The Painter Drones should be of Minmatar Basic Design of course, looking like Warriors and Berserkers.

Hmmm. I see what you mean in regards to gate camping. Perhaps the field generators can be programmed for soveriegnty checking. Both POS and Ship models. This way you could gate camp your own system that you control but couldnt sit in low sec and gank people with it. I didnt really think of the soveriegnty until The third post. It would make defence and offence in a POS fight largely the same as it ever was but scouting targets and checking reinforced status become a little more tricky. These units would eat cpu and powergrid off of the tower and need a fuel to disperse so it would be expensive to maintain always on but you could certainly have a small responder force that rushes out and turns them on when a hostile enters system. The same force could then each take control of the POS guns there and wait for the enemy to leave or show up at a POS. The drones should be based on thier heritage. perhaps they will be tech 2 ewar drones that include web/decloak, painter/decloak, energy neutralizer/decloak. So with the variation available they could be more effective in combinations or "candy striped." Maybe the drones could be restricted to use in EAS or some similiar ship. I agree that they would be misused but there has to be some room to use it for bad things as well as good or why put it in the game. Both are parts of the game.
