Edited by: Plutoinum on 30/10/2007 07:15:48 Edited by: Plutoinum on 30/10/2007 07:12:27 It's awesome. I have just upgraded my hardware. Was about time to get rid of my old Geforce Ti-4200/AthlonXP2000 combo. Originally I planned to play the last days Tabalua Rasa beta, but didn't make it in time. So tonight I found this Crysis demo by cooincidence. I had already forgotten about that game.
First minutes I was really just staring, couldn't almost believe, how good it looks. Reminds me of Farcry some years ago. Cryengine-1 was also the best outdoor engine I've had seen until then. That game was beautiful at that time. Now Crysis with its new engine is really another big step forward again. A huge step towards more visual realism. ( Wonder, if we Germans get it uncensored btw. ) Gameplay is similar to Farcry, so I felt at home immediately, although the armor options are new and a nice idea and fun.
The only thing that I hope is that it gets more difficult later during the gameplay, Farcry was quite difficult at some points. But I've played this demo with normal difficulty and due to an a bit overpowered Stealth mode, it seemed a bit too easy.
The 'bait some guys, activate stealth, kill them, hide for a few seconds to recover energy, stealth again, before the renforcements arrive, then kill those too, stealth again...' tactics seemed to work almost always against the npcs. In other cases I had already killed everything with the vehicle guns, before it became a problem. The powerarmor also increases your survivability extremely, so if someone shoots you, you have quite some time to react. And the ultra-speed mode is also so fast that the npc enemies seem to have no chance to catch you. So in contrast to Far Cry it seems like there could be always an easy way out in Crysis.
But well, this demo is just an introduction level and I hope that it will become more stressfull and that you really have to use all this overpowered abilities wisely or get toasted.
Anyway, my 1st impression is that this game is another mile-stone and a must have for everyone, who likes such 1st person shooter games with a thrilling story.
P.S.: For those with ancient hardware: If you don't want/need AA and/or high graphics performance for DX10, you don't really need a high end PC. Actually my computer upgrade was low/medium budget, following some overclocking ideas from tom's hardware, although I didn't do it as extreme as them. Got a cheap Intel dual core e-2160, who is supposed to run at 2x1,8Ghz/200FSB. Runs at 2x2.7Ghz/300FSB now. Luckily the new MB offered still parallel ide port, so could use my old HD and DVD burner. Needed new ram and a new power supply though. So in the end a rather cheap upgrade for about 400 EUR from a 2002/2003'ish PC to something that allows me to play crisis with WinXP/DX9 now ( at least at their default settings ).
Should also be enough for EVE for some time.

Core2 Duo 6600, 8800GTX Ultra, 4Gb of fast RAM/2.9 in use (Thanks XP) & Win XP
1600x1050 or whatever that widescreen size is with x4AA all settings on high and it FLIES! It runs so smoothly I am tempted to increase the AA further however it doesn't seem to need it.
Absolutely stunning game, The very high settings are greyed out, which I can only assume is the DX10/Vista options.
I am looking forward to its release!

The Very High setting is only available for DirectX 10. DirectX 10 only runs on Windows Vista.
In other words, you can't select the Very High settings in Windows XP, because it only supports up to DirectX 9.

There is a way to enable very high settings in windows XP on the demo, just check the official crysis forums you will find a step by step guide how to do it somewhere.
Obviously u wont get the enhanced DX10 visuals (like motion blur, etc) on XP but very high settings can be unlocked.

Lol just tried it on Delta, so much more fun and tense! Spent majority of the time having a very difficult firefight within one of the small huts (they kept calling for support), throwing grenades through the doors and putting the shotty holders at the doorways as the rest circled around shooting....the hut eventually collapsed around me .
Love the demo so far, cant wait for release \o/ .

AWESOME - Have ordered it on the strength of the demo. Also ordered Hellgate: London after playing the demo.
But Hellgate London was a big pile of S***...
The Demo was a big let down, but the beta was much better (more monsters, loots, better graphics...), the retail version is a signifiant improvment over the beta (more polished), and there's a big patch planned for today or tomorrow that should bring another signifiant improvement, too. ------------------------------------------

Edited by: brocksamson316 on 01/11/2007 21:41:06 Edited by: brocksamson316 on 01/11/2007 21:40:09 i ran the demo at all very high at first, i have windows vista home premium, an asus commando motherboard and the best quality ram i could get from crucial which cost me ú350 for 4 sticks of 4x 2 gb each, hiper 720watt psu, an evga 8800 gtx which has extra cooling blocks fitted etc and a quad core q6600 processor, this is all in an antec nine hundred case which has great fans and i fitted an extra hiper fan inside as well, i changed the stock cpu cooler as its not very good to the arctic cooling version. |I got 20fps on all very high which was just not quite slick enough to play, i changed a couple of things to high from very high and saw no real difference in loss of the amazing graphics and draw distance other than it went up to a much better 35-45 fps, u do need an amazing pc to play this game to its fullest but its worth having one for this game alone, its a real joy and brings new life to the fps genre.

hehe wall of text abit but still :P Your PC is rather alot like mine same processor and case simliar mobo same gfx probably :P I play on everythign set to High rather than Very High just because it makes it abit smoother and the difference isnt THAT noticable. still top demo played it about 8times now. cant wait for the release date.

Fun things I found to do, besides the obvious "Im bored... Gas can... explosive barrel... hut... no hut! And lots of pretty wreckage!" combos :D
Take the Hummer/Jeep vehicle from the GPS hut and go flying down the beach towards the command center. While your racing down, hold **** can you can hit somewhere around 60mph on the sandy beach.. By this time I had all those guys combing the beach shooting me, the gunner on the stationary Hummer, and the three guys by the pickup truck.
Im cruising at 60mph, about 95% vehicle damage (On Delta) and I see two Hummers have formed a roadblock and opened up on me, with about four Koreans going into the trees to fire.
Wondering what I'm gonna do here, its solved for me when I hit a rock, flip (Do a barrel roll!) and get my last 5-2% damage done when one of the guys behind me hit that lovely gas tank :D
Needless to say, I enjoyed watching my spinning flaming wreck crash into one of the jeeps, blowing up and causing a palm tree to fall, crushing what was left of the enemy jeep, which then blew up, causing the other jeep to promptly explode. I couldnt see the ground from my mangled carcass, but judging my the wreckage I'm fairly certain I saw more than a few hats fly into the air :D
All in all, an amazing game. If you find the AI kinda easy, try on hard or Delta, they get vicious and you loose your crosshairs (It says your restricted to iron sights, but it would let you equip the laser reflex sight, possibly a bug?)
Oh, and IDK what my FPS was, but with a q6600 quadcore, OC to 2.7ghz, 8800GTX 756mb stock and 2gb of 800mhz RAM, at all High settings, 1680x1050, 2x AA, it ran smooth as silk, very playable up to 8xAA, although the visual difference was so slight I opted for the smoothness of 2x AA forthcoming |

After playing it a couple of times I've come to the conclusion Crysis is too easy.
I tried, and unfortunately easily finished the demo on Delta difficulty by not killing anybody (Tactical weapon only). I'm sure with intelligent use of cloak and speed functions I could do it without guns.
The main problem is the suit is far too good. The speed functions means you can run away from any infantry, and cloak + cover means you can kill large groups of enemies with next to no danger.
Bah. Wish it was harder.

Incidentally, when you guys got to the GPS jamming thing, did you notice one of the guys on the bridge relieving himself off the side?
I saw him through my binoculars...hilarious. Of course I shot the barrel next to him and he jumps back and does the stalker-routine..

ive been lurking several crysis forums now, and couldnt find anything about a "little" issue i have.
altough several people with the same card (7800gs) and similar specs seem to experience the same problems as i do, namely the fps dropping and the game locking up.
luckily i found out rather soon what caused this, and it really shocked me and ****ed me off at the same time: the fan of the gpu wont react to the temperature, i.e. it runs exactly at the same speed as it does, when you enter the game.
after 5 minutes you get about 115¦, the card slows down (if youre lucky) and the the ONLY thing to cure this behaviour i found (so far) is to reboot the computer, which leads to a fan running wild, because he suddenly reacts to the temperature again.
now if i start the demo right after this reboot, it runs just fine, for about forever. because the fan, which runs at full speed, because the gpu is still hot after the reboot, doenst react to temperature (again) and runs at high power, until the next reboot.
i have to admit i use an older driver because i cant freaking stand the "new and improved" interface...**** ... "nvidia has deceived the most advanced user inteface yadda yadday" my ass
anybody notice similar behaviour?

Edited by: Krxon Blade on 03/11/2007 19:31:24 Have you tried to use Rivatuner for fan control? I have new Sapphire HD2900 pro with one gig ram. Before Rivatuner, fan was loud non stop, but now it is louder only during gameplay. I'm also thinking to buy this Thermalright silencer for this vga, which further reduces both noise and temperature. --

Yeah, about 2 seconds into the game I got the Predator rip off feeling. About the same amount of time it took me to work out the Dark Walker in the UT3 was a War of the Worlds (modern) tripod.
