Don't know if this would work as I have little knowledge of macros. How about having a security phrase you have to enter at an interval in game that macros will not be able to read.
Have a count down to let genuine players know that its coming. Any macroer would be forced to come back every hour or so (or however long the interval was) to enter the security code.
Does anyone think this is a viable idea? Can you improve it?

There is only one effective way to bring macros to a crawl (nothing will ever halt them) - Make NPC corps war-declarable. This will cut the number of empire macros/farmers by 90% easily, forcing them to juggle corporations on an hourly basis to stay alive. Force the war flag to carry over per individual in a corp being declared to prevent constant corp jumping.
Also: Remove cloaks from ships that are not intended to use them, make ships remain in space for 5 minutes before disappearing. Scramming said ship should force it to remain until no longer scrambled or dies.
Implement aggressive client-side scanning of computers to detect the input of macro programs (yes, SPYWARE!). Only by use of invasive technology will ever truly eliminate macro use.

I also had an idea once.. that all cloaking devices uncloak after set time of total inactivity at client (be it 10, 15 or whatever-minutes).
Funky! I thought...
But I let the idea float around, and it took only a small while till I realized that it's quite simple to have a macro to do pointless activities with the client until local empties, by which time it either warns the farmer that it's time to come back to grid - or more complex marco shifting to NPC'ing again...
So, in the end, it would have not hurt the people I intented it for after all.
Just like your idea - in all likelyhood it will be somehow circumventable by a macro after all, and would not hit the people you intent it to hit (but it would hit like a wet sock against the face for us real players).
I still endorse all thought given to possible ways to gimp farmers

No-thats abusable in the worst way possible. This opens up the ability to take pot shots at noobs. This isn't a deathmatch game. Noobcorps will never change. No-That's stupid. Sorry. Cloaking is FINE and I (along with a large group of other players) really don't want it to change.
And NO- Spyware = Useless/will make players leave. What the community just CAN NOT MANAGE to understand is that macro use is NOT the problem, ISK farmers (actual people in gaming sweatshops) are. Automated mining accounts for maybe 10% of the problem as a whole and are NOT AS COMMON as people believe. Spyware would find nothing anyway, since the programs used are just made with standard macros that you'd use for everyday tasks. Published macro programs DO NOT WORK and steal your account information. (I won't get any further into it than that)
And to the OP- NO! Captcha's are only annoying and would serve to spam the hell out of the user during combat or any other task. I had an awful experience of a petition window opening and taking focus during a fight. I hate having to verify that I'm human when using teh internets, why would I want to do it in Eve??

:( another misconception about macros. There is no such thing as a macro that does anything other than repeat your actions. There are NO BOTS FOR EVE as the program will NOT provide hooks to such programs. Again, you're talking about PEOPLE (or PERSONS).
Please come to the macrointel channel with these concerns. Also- Do a search on eve-search for "macro" and you'll find a dearth of information on the subject.

lol just use a cheat prevention program like hack shield/ game guard
checks for hooks,etc.. (and will not let game open if it finds them)
problem solved.
i dont see a AH system for this game (no icons stating that atleast)
i mean you may not be able to multi shoot something (ur ship becoming a super machine gun),etc.. but still just using key calls,etc.. is bad due to this game uses a market system and the ONLY way other than getting a lucky drop id to get stuff is by market. ----------------------- Eve rules! This wouldn't be epecially effective unless it was more than once every minute or so - usually macroers run several accounts on one computer, glancing at each every couple of minutes. This wouldn't stop them, but it would make it more of a pain and limit the number of computers they could use at once. The question is, is this fair to normal miners? ---------------- Tarminic - 29 Million SP in Forum Warfare Wrangler on Whining |

Well- You could have all mining beams turn off after a random number of cycles, but that's pretty lame too.

Prevent direct ISK transfers between players outside your corp / alliance happening more than once in every 24 hours.
If you can't sell the ISK easily, whats the point in macroing to generate it?

Just get rid of ice and ice mining and replace it with a pos module outside shields that accumulates ice products in ice belt systems.
Oh and npc aggro and probing non cov-ops cloaks.

War-dec SWA and sit 150k off Kisogo - SWA Station, instapopping Ibis and frigs is all that will come of this.
Limit the ships you can use while in a noob corp (no freighters, barges, exhumers, transport ships, battleships, bc, T2 anything) might help though.

that would be cool for dealing with macro's or griefer's, but ya know that'll get exploited by the uber leet wannabe's. maybe if they work in something like a killright that would lessen the chance of needless bloodshed if they enabled war dec'ing noob corps. maybe even work in something like punkbuster that is geared to look for such 3rd party apps?

How about simply making game less predictable and a bit more challenging?
Graduating from NPC corp at 2 mil SP sounds like a good idea. After that every1 would be jetted into their personal corp... -- signature --- Bah. Signatures suck. |

You could make it so 'roids in belts move and you have to constantly move your ship to remain in alignment, better still make them all move in different direction and damage you when the crash into you.

You know those Internet obfuscated bits of text you have to type in to register on forums etc. sometimes?
Well, computers can't read them and neither can I 90% of the time!
Remember most macros aren't "true" macros anyway, but they are intense farmers looking after a ton of PCs each, and they could just adapt.

Trail Account rules should also apply to chars in NPC Corps... Can't train this skill, can't train that, can't do this, can't do that... While in an NPC Corp.
I'm against any form of spyware, anti-macro sniffers, time-out windows/questions. They waist bandwidth and clock cycles and can be circumvented anyhow.
As others have stated -- THERE IS NO SURE WAY TO DETECT ALL MACROs or 1 PERSON OPPERATING 20 ACCOUNTS ON MULTI INSTANCES OR COMPUTERS.
Allow players to choose to stay in NooB Corps if they wish. BUT force them to deal with restrictions of gameplay.
Will this idea stop ISK farmers/sellers ??? NO !! *** But we players will then be enabled to.
---FAST FACT--- Exxon Mobil, the U.S.'s largest oil firm, reported annual earnings last year of $36.1 Billion, or $1146 a second, a record for any U.S. corp. |

To rest;
"EDIT: Sh*te idea, removed."
"This thread delivers.... ...piles and piles of fail." etc.....
You're childish and need to learn some manners. I was only suggesting a fix. As I mentioned earlier in OP, I know little of the way macros work.
At least some people are thinking of ideas rather than wasting time flaming anyone and everyone.
