Bopping around Amarr space in my Maulus I was aghast to see how wretched the starting systems were in regards to ore. The mining inclined new players of EVE and just those doing agent missions have a hard time of actually finding an asteroid, never mind extracting sufficient amount out of it in their starting system.
Since CCP seems to think of this as Someone Elses Problem (somone else being the new players) what we can do is to name and shame those corporations that show a complete lack of consideration towards those just starting the game, thereby possibly damaging it's success.
The first steps in EVE are hard enough (getting to know how basic things work takes days and weeks) without established corporations doing their best to hinder the first steps of the new citizens.
So I made a quick trip to the 3 starting Amarr systems and below you find the results of my survey of the empty asteroid belts.
These corporations should be ashamed, remove their containers at once and stay out of 1.0 space with their mining operations. -- Champion of user friendlieness and proper information distribution Defender of newbies EVE knowledgeBase |

In regards to the Small Secure adcans (Fuall managing to enter every belt, impressive attention to detail) then they are per se not a mining operation module.
However it should show you how cluttered many of those asteroid belts are. Finding an asteroid is harder than not bumping into a container. -- Champion of user friendlieness and proper information distribution Defender of newbies EVE knowledgeBase |

woot. wht did we win??
actually those cans sit there empty. we haven't mined in sehmy since our newb corp. but having a low sec rating the owner of those cans can't get into high sec space anymore.
i can remember when those rocks weren't too bad in size. and they are striped bare now?

Sehmy actually has more asteroids than containers, which is unique in high security space. -- Champion of user friendlieness and proper information distribution Defender of newbies EVE knowledgeBase |

A well-researched post that highlights the problem very well. This is clearly a flaw in the design of the game.
There's always going to be a selfish element in any MMOG that adheres to the philosophy of a bacterium, "Eat as fast as I can! Nuts to the colony! Nuts to the future!". The only way to address this is to code in some checks and bounds.

Aren't we in Imperial Dreams the scum of the earth? Ninja mining all that lovely veldspar from underneath the newbies noses?
Nothing to do with the fact that we regularly recruit brand new players and teach them how to play from the ground up. So errrm yeah.... when you see us mining in battleships in 1.0 systems then you might have a point. Until then, shut up, go back to your pointless existance and stop bringing idiotic half-truths to the boards. It makes you look very stupid when you don't know whats going on.

I personally agree that any decent corp will not mine in a newb sector with the sole exception of recruiting and trying to find new players to employ. I can safly say that Imptech doesn't do this (as I discourage it) and if you ever see a member of ImpTech mining in a new player system, let me know and I'll have them re-located.
You can do anything you set your mind to. |

My question to CCP is very simple.
How are you making life easier for new players in starting system? In fact.. how are you making life possible for them in regards of mining?
Last I knew tutorial missions included supplying the agent with ore. Has this changed?
The naming and shaming is going to continue.
Starting in a complex world and environment such as EVE is hard enough without even slightly more experienced players making your first steps that much harder.
If we want to break the records by thousands we need to be able to offer the new players a starting chance.
