Ok, so I've been exploring for about 3-4 months now, primarily in 0.0 and I've had an "interesting" run of luck.
In the last week or so I've found Serp base 3 three times. Each time I had 4 empties out of 6 cans, for a total of 12 empties out of 18. I've got hacking IV, and a hacking implant, so I've got decent skills, but out of those 3 sites I've come away with about 20 datacores and about 150 parts for interfaces. That's just abyssmal considering it's one of the two hardest sites to find.
Anyone else had a bad run with this site, or is it just the law of averages making me want to melt down my codebreaker to make a shuttle?

I have yet to find one. I can find all the other sites, but the hacking ones elude me.

Well, having done both serp and gurista hacking level 3's I can tell you it is the same in both of them, all the non databank cans are empty, every time, it seems.

it's just luck, on similar blood sites I get a few empties sometimes and other times they are all packed with stuff.

This is a specific site, only found in zero zero. Yeah, there are empty but these are Always, empty as far as I can tell.

Done Gurista, Serp, Sansha and Blood base 3, with same experience as OP. Sucky loot, especially compared to the easier to find hacking sites.

Found one Serpentis Hacking base 3, wasn't empty only one can(few datacores and about 100-150 tools). Have Hacking skill at 5. After first warp to sig was fight only with sentries(cruiz, guns). Then I hacked all cans, result I wrote above. Then I warp out from site. From the other side of system gate was camp, so I warp back to site, and found respown of 6 BS and 3 or near BC.

6 BS and 3 BC eh? I can't say I've ever seen those. I always just thought the level 3 sites where the easiest sites ever...

Sorry for the silly question, but the number Site "3" indicates what? The hardest sites are 1,2 or 3? Haven't started on exploration at all. |

May be I make a mistake about a ratio BS/BC. But, it looks like the lev 3 is bugged. Why the NPC appear after hack of all cans, and, when I rewarp to site in a few minuts after hacking? And this site was defend better than a lev 1.

I hope you guys have been bug reporting this? The Dev in charge of exploration seems to still care about his duties/hasn't got burned out yet. I'm sure he'd be interested in knowing about this... __________________________________________________

Edited by: ElCoCo on 05/11/2007 08:02:41 I've done two of those and boy were they a pain to find. First time only salvage parts worth less than 5mil (I think only 3xt2 parts) and 2 small POS guns (rail+blaster) 3run bpc's The second time (which was even harder to track) had even less. Some 5-6mil worth of salvage and 2xt2 parts with nothing else I'd better be killing rats in 0.5 tbh hehe edit: btw, those were in 0.0.

Ok I just did one in 0.0. Like with the previous posters, only the "Serpentis Databank" had anything in them (hacking lvl4 with 2xhacking rigs). And it was just a few parts and 8 mech eng.datacores.... ermmm.... crap compared to base 1-2's The other (empty) hackable stuff were 2x"Serpentis Com Tower" and 2x"Serpentis Mainframe". Is the defence only supposed to be several light and heavy turrets? Seems weird to be so light.

And another one done today. Again only the databank spawn containers yielded stuff, albeit better than the last time (8 mech datacores, a few parts and 4run incognito data interface). Although that's not "bad" isk-wise, it's strange that the other cans are empty. Anyone else had this site I'm describing having loot in any other can than the databank ones? Has anyone posted a bug report?

Not a silly question at all - but no, the number relates to nothing, not hardness ... could be Japheth, Shem and Ham .... Strawberry, Raspberry and err Traffic?
Fairly silly answer tho :)

I usually get crap from the base3 sights. I think its the way the site spawns.
When you arrive, 2 cans are spawned, the two that usually give you some goodies. The other 4 cans and turrets spawn after you approach the site and usually have nothing in them.

Indeed, that's the site I'm describing as well. (mind you I did another one 2days ago and again only those 2 cans had anything, so that's 5 out of 5 for me)
Next time I'm going to scan with sifts until I get 0 deviation incase warping in and immediately spawning all the cans makes a difference.

With a 0 scan deviation youŠll land on top of the beacon thatŠs in the plex... The beacon in this case is far enough away and you wonŠt be able to make them spawn right away... I guess the Base3 Plexes (0.0) are just generally bugged... |

If I could remember where it was written I would link it, but the level of skills doesn't increase the chance, but the speed at which you can get into the can AFAIK.
So the skill level is irrelivant when quoting what you got ( you just got there faster ;) ). ___

Ive noticed some interesting coincedences thus far when doing Hacking sites.
1) In all cases I have encountered, the easier a site is to defeat (ie: easy spawns, low numbers, no warp scramblers etc, no Dire X) the less in the cans. The worst Ive had is one in which I retrieved 2 datacores and 78 power couplings. I believe in that case there were 12 missile batteries, 2 cruisers, 1 bs and 5 frigs to kill and that was it. A total waste of time.
2) Thus far Ive also noticed that the more difficult a site is to scan down, the less NPC's are in the site, the easier it is to defeat, and the less items spawn in the site. This could be just coincidence, but in every case where Ive gotten bad loot its been a difficult site to scan down, and an exceptionally ease site to beat.
Interestingly enough - the reverse has been true too. When Ive encountered very difficult sites (one in which I lost my BS), they have been easy to scan down, and have yielded the most loot. By easy to scan down - I mean it usually takes anywhere from 1-4 scans to locate (usually its on the 1st to 2nd scan).
Can anyone else verify they have seen this too?

I've found the same with angel sites, the base 3 deepspace hacking sites always have 4/6 empty cans. I've never looked to check if the 4 empties were the ones that spawned after you arrive, but that sounds likely. Seems bugged

Edited by: Lil Mule on 20/11/2007 23:11:28 Ok I can confirm - I just did this site now. Its a Profession - Hacking - 3 - Deep Space Gurista. It also had 6 cans, 4 of which were empty. Only 2 had loot (which was pretty dismal). It took me a while to scan this down - despite the fact that I had 3 overlapping bubbles. It did have a very low signal strength.
Same thing with the missile batteries. I can confirm that 2 cans were visible when I warped in, then the other 4 spawned at a later time (once I got closer)

just thought id add that the hacking skill does not give you a greater chance of somethin being in the can, it only gives you a greater chance of being able to hack the can, unless somethin has drastically changed that i didnt hear about, and btw yeah these sites seem to be bugged for most races, ive done guristas, angel, blood and sansha ones and always get mostly empty cans

Edited by: Lil Mule on 21/11/2007 13:12:25 Interestingly enough, my theory held true last night on a second Radar site I found.
The site was very easy to scan down, only took 1-2 passes. I entered the site, and there was a glowing structure in the middle surrounded by 16 heavy missile batteries. In addition, there were 6 Dire Cruisers, 2 Usuprer BS's and approximately 5 frigates. As I engaged, the numbers swelled to approximately 12-15 cruisers, a mix of HAC's which jammed, and regular cruirsers, 3 Usurpers, and around 15 + frigates - including 4 Dire Frigates wich warp scramble, and also the 16 heavy missile batteries.
Once I opened the cans - there were 4 additional smaller waves of 4 ships each time - twice were frigates, twice a mix of HAC's and Frigates came. Never enough to cause any real threat, but annoying none the less. So overall 5 waves, and plus the original spawn.
The loot from this site was quite a bit - around 115 million isk or so was gathered.
In this case - 1) easier to scan down 2) difficult battle, resulted in higher yield.

What ships are you using for your hacking sites? I am about to start exploration. I was going to be flying a buzzard around but after reading how many ships you can encoutner I do not think a buzzard would last long at all.

Use a cov-ops to find the site and a BC or BS to kill the NPC's.
That said it has happened to me once to find a hacking 3 site with no NPC's at all (not even when hacking a can). Also had 5/6 cans empty . -----------------------------------------------------

My experience says it's not, i've had profitable loot from them and have had 5 out of 6 cans with loot
edit: that's not saying i haven't had a dud, but that can be said of all hacking sites
