okey i know it's counterpart is suppose to be tracking disruptors. But i have never even seen a ship in a mission use this module. Nor does it have any effect at all in long range and only small (to non if shooting at same sieze targets or bigger) effect in close combatą
Yer i know defenders are as good as useless for pvp since they take up a high and luncher point to use, but besides this in missions exspecially ( and i can just see the first person to actually come up with some little EW frig with tons of def missiles on for support or something like that :P) is an extreme pain and almost always removes half your dmg (using cruise missiles)..
Well just my, why the hell isnĘt there the same kind of anti turret gun thing, that will eliminate any sniping with long range turrets:P

NPCs do use Tracking Distuptors. I can't remember which faction it is though. I just know I've been hit by them.
Tracking disruptors cut your optimal range in about half, I think. It pretty much destroys sniping and has about the same effect on damage because you have to use longer range ammo. If you get close to counter the range problem, then you fall into the tracking part of the problem. They're plenty effective.

It would be nice if you could fit defender missiles on carriers to help support ships around it, along with it self. Though then you run into the problem of people not using missiles anymore.

Just to point it: you can intercept only missile fired against you with defenders, you can't help other people, while all the other kind of Ewar help all the others member of your gang.
Essentially defenders are useless as you must fire them against a ship firing missiles against you and while a missile is in flight or they will not fire.
If they could work with a kind of autofire detecting incoming missiles and firing, they would be very good in PvE, as they stand today they are almost useless both in PvP and PvE.

Its why I have always said, that defenders should also serve as really weak, but exstreamly fast and long range missile to be used against Interceptors and Frigs.
Let them do like 10 to 15 damage.
Would make them useful but not overly powerful.
Crap load of them from lots of ships could useful against nano ships to.

because everyone loves wasting highslots for a defense that barely works, why fit guns/launchers to out dps when you can take out 1/10th of the incoming dps (not sure on that number, but it seems to not be a good one, aka a caracel hit a drake with 7 rocket launchers firing defenders most of the time)

Defenders used to work, way back when.
Nowadays they are a joke, and should be fixed.

Defender are not used because : -Always have to reactivate -very very very inefficient if not in a rocket launcher -when a single pack of missiles comes in, it seems like the defenders all launched at same time will target the same missile
Bigger ships don't want to fit rocket launchers... Bigger ships need to put a big pack of defenders in their missile launchers and it should launch them very fast or in packs.
The other issue is when pack of missiles comes in, activating all your defenders will be crappy, defenders do not destroy missile on an area effect, so if they all try to crash in the same missile, it won't work. So it can only work against NPCs who shoot their missiles one by one and not agains players who empties the full rack at once. -- Pocket drone carriers (tm) enthousiast !

Main problem is, the defenders acts like regular missiles and are not predetermined if successful. So you launch them, they aquire a target and start to fly towards it and adjustments are made on a regular basis. But with their high speed and low cpu time slots, they often fly past the missile 3 or 4 time before hitting (looks funny). Meaning any missile not fired at 50km+ will hit its target.
The code should be changed, so when they are fired, they are already a success or failure and the graphic adjusted to show that.
To be fair, i think i managed to get 2 or 3 missiles at the 10km range battle, but i did sacrifice 2 high slots for those 3 missiles.

Defender missiles should be removed from the game.
All they achieve, (in pve), is to increase slightly the time it takes to kill the rats that use them.

"Way back when", the flight speed of a missile used to be like 300 m/s. So defenders worked very good.
With the huge changes to missiles since, I think it's simply impossible to make them work.
And yes, Sansha NPCs use tracking disruptors. Am I forced to have any regret? I've become the lie, beautiful and free In my righteous own mind I adore and preach the insanity you gave to me |
