Edited by: Master Joe on 03/03/2004 13:42:39 I realy miss the animation of the ships like opening bay doors where from the jettisoned can could come out or the drones could lunch from. I would renew the undocking sequence of the Battleships too cuz a ship comeing out of a "hole" half it's size a bit annoying... they could doc to those bays sticking out of the stations and not going inside them as some stations are too small to hold these ships. The backgrounds are pretty cool but i would add some animation to them like in Home-world like flashing nebulas and stuff... and make them a bit sharper like in this pic:
pic Wonder if any of you have the same feeling guys.

Hmmm good idea. I would love to see different types of docking at different stations. However, i am concerned about the lag such animations would create if alot of ships arrived at a station at the same time.

Edited by: Reiisha on 03/03/2004 16:47:27 You can make those animations client based. Only the action should be made "public", no need to put the bandwith on line aswell.
In general EVE's textures need a bit of an overhaul. I've been playing long enough to see small mistakes in the design, like the different size windows on almost everyship. It's like poeple of 2 or mroe different sizes live on there, and it's the same with stations.
The ratio of window size between stations and ships is also a bit odd. Stations seems to have windows that are sometimes the size of entire ships, and it ruins the feeling of the game quite a bit. The station interiors are also way too big for the station on the outside. CCP should make either the stations and planets a LOT bigger (even small moons aren't supposed to look THAT small so close to the main planet for example, and gasseous planets are way too smallin EVE) to fit the interiors in them (and ofcourse make the docking ports actualy big enough to fit 3-4 battleships in them).
The size ratios aren't really what they are supposed to be imo....
But also, some ships have weird textures as a whole. The megathron for example, has different resolution textures on different parts of the ship, in addition to the "window problem". It looks very strange, since it enhances that window effect very much.
The apocalypse has some parts of it's textures smeared out over parts that aren't covered and nigh unvisible, but if you look at the ship closer you see like 16 different sizes of windows, due to the extremely compressed textures on some parts (i mean, the entire apoc skin is pasted on those little flaps in the middle, for example - NOT good.).
Only after these changes you could think about animations, since the textures have to be good before you can make the illusion more real.... Because of those things i mentioned it will just ruin the feeling even more if you put animations in right now.
Just a few remarks....

I agree that Eve needs sharper backgrounds and planet textures. Planets looks nice from far away, but when you warp to them, they get pretty bland. Something like Freelancer's approach to planets would be nice (eg. atmosphere with animated effects).
Also the cloud rings around planets arent too nice. Need some proper rings. ********** Everyone deserves to die. You go first.
