I merely ask, because upon logging in and choosing my character, I'm faced with a complete black screen - I can hear station noises, but nothing's appearing.
Anybody else similarly stuck?

Got that too after hitting login right after serverreboot.
Worked fine and fast without problems 5 mins l8er. Didn't change anything...
This black screen was very often in the old days. If nothing helps, deleting the cache is always a good idea :)

You should know by now that it's always reall laggy on patch day because of all the people logging in at the same time after downtime.

I'm blackholed at a jumpgate, just like the old days. Several corp mates have had problems too.
Cache deletion did diddly.

Got stuck jumping at a gate. Logged off and now, logging back in, I can't get past the Authenticating screen
Edit: Now stuck on tuning in on sub-space frequency 
Also, prior to getting stuck, docking seemed bugged: right-clicked and chose dock which auto warped me to the station and then started to approach it (had MWD on) - but then had to manually choose dock again.

What you can also try is to change angle of view, as if you were in space after some time has expired and there's still only a black screen..
Sometimes that worked for me.....

I'm experiencing similar problems (most of what was described above). My current problem is this:
If I set a multi-jump destination, and use the autopilot, then the autopilot disables itself whenever I reach a jumpgate. If I then reactivate the autopilot, the jump takes my ship off screen, but the next system doesn't load. Eventually, the phrase "Autopilot jumping" will be said again (and again and again), but you never arrive at the next system.
Closing the client and logging in again places you in the destination system, but this takes a long time and is very irritating! I've already failed to get the bonus on a mission I started (only a 4 jump one, at that) because I've spent so much time faffing around...

Yep hanging at a jumpgate here.
Wonder how long for the restart.
Now during the extra downtime I have had sex, walked the dog and bought some milk. Now I have nothing to do! Cant even annoy the gf anymore. Totally unacceptable

Yep I get that, although after about 5 mins it clears, but now I got a whole new problem, every friggin gate jump, my ship dissapears and im left sat at gate, relog, 5 mins of black screen, ship appears in mid space, go to gate, jump, and repeat.

I can do all of that during normal downtime 
Sex 12mins (including undressing and getting dressed again)
Dog walking 12mins
Buying milk, looking at PC/game mags, eying up other women 30 mins
That leaves 6 mins to make a cup of tea and reboot PC ready to log in

To get back onto the subject (and to avoid this thread getting locked), I'm stuck too. Got on OK after DT, did a few jumps, docked, undocked, couple more jumps, all appeared fine but then I got stuck jumping out of Rens. Tried re-logging but char won't load, my alt char will load though so I've managed to file a petition.

Well, in one of those "didn't you just know it" moments, I used my other char to file the stuck petition, and immediately found I could get in as Baldour. So I went back to the other char to delete my stuck petition, only to find that the other char was now stuck, and I couldn't get in far enough to reach the petition and delete it 
Yeah, I think it's just patch-day blues, as usual. Hopefully it'll be cool now.

I love Eve, and I know patches are essential to improve the game.
But FFS they still pi55 me off, I dont get alot of time to do this kinda thing so I set aside some time today to play Eve, so please forgive me if I get a little pi55ed off at CCP for wanting to do what I pay them to let me do.

Huh? You set aside time on a patch day to play Eve?
Of all the days to set aside for playing any MMORPG patch day has to be the worst possible choice. Patch day should be the exact opposite. You plan ahead by finding something different to do.
