Im considering to cross train a bit , and i lack a bit in knowledge about caldari ships/missles...
Does rook get bonus to hams or only to hvy missiles?
Also in terms of pure dps how much better are hams to hvy missles? 10% 15% ? -

Dont think about the DPS you are dealing when flying a rook. Keep range, loads of it. Especially in the nano era. You are paperthin and rely on keeping targets jammed.
Thats my advice _________________________________________________ Breetime

Doesn't matter, because only a bloody fool would use HAMs on a Rook. HMs have the range, alpha (mostly for drone-swatting), and lower fitting reqs that an ECM boat needs.

Actually, i find i have too much fitting ability on my rook/falcon. Hams fit easily on there. And tbh, they work fine. If anything gets within 50km of you, you're doing something wrong, so theres not much leeway between jamming, and having to warp out to safety. Hams are just as good as HM.
But generally you should be long range. If you arent long range, warp out, and come back at range. Otherwise the world and his dog will beat down on you before your fingers will reach the end of the F1-F7 cycle

Odd. I don't. I find that SDA IIs, a MWD II, an LSE II, and some jammers leave me having a hard time fitting heavy launchers, let alone HAMs.
Then again, when I'm at 250km, my most useful weapon appears to be assault launchers with precision missiles. Or would be, if precision missiles could ACTUALLY hit an interceptor. -- Crane needs more grid 249km locking? GMP and TNP |

Tbh id agree there - Doesnt matter what missiles you fit, if you use them - Thats when you know you're in trouble.
But hmm - I may be bugged. In an uber way.

I put T2 HAMs on my rook. With my 120km Jav range they work. But like its been stated if you actually need to use them for more then detouring that pesky inty, then you should align and warp.
DPS in a caldari recon is your last resort, Use the best named racial jammers and you should be good. Especially with this boost they are getting, loosing a high slot and gaining a low. Mcrew-pub

Part of the reason I'd prefer HMs on the Rook is the higher alpha-more likely to kill drones that way.

Thanks for replies.
Still poeple all the answers " it doesnt matter cause you do somethign wrong if you got to shoot" seem to miss the point a bit cause it alwys matter how much you add of dps to the gang total, i am not even considering killing somethign alone in rook.
Just aqueston of whats better in terms of pure dps.

No, it doesnt matter how much dps you have. Not when a rooks concerned.
Lets say you're in a small gang (which is where the dps is more needed). Your rook will be able to jam the majority of their gang (say 7 v 7) That then means that your team doesnt take as much damage. In this case, a fairly large amount. Thefore you can wear down the other gang with your ecm, and your gangs weaker dps.
The minute you step in adds one extra risk, with little benifit (due to the rooks poor dps. Namely that of luck. Its LUCK if you jam or not. You can have all your skills to lv 5, but there will come a time, when a jag will not be jammed by you, and in those 20 seconds, mess you up completely. At which point, your gang then becomes unassisted, and starts dying.
By sticking at 100-200km, you're throwing the ECM at them with zero risk to yourself, with all the benifits, bar from the dps, which is going to be little more than a caracal. Your ECM is more valuable that a caras dps, and lets not even think about ISK value either.
So no - we arent missing the point at all

I believe the rook damage bonus does not apply to HAMs - you do the same damage with a kinetic HAM as a explosive HAM, with recon 5, on test server.
So... unless you have recon 5, you're still doing a little bit more damage with HAMs, but only a little bit. -- Crane needs more grid 249km locking? GMP and TNP |

Thanks a lot for more replies.
I see your point Waxau , but i think there are situations when adding every bit of dps and risking more might be worth it...
Anyway thanks alot , i will go first for the t2 hvy missiles then:) -

Sorry dude, i didnt mean to sound big headed or anything :) End of the day, we all fit our ships to how we desire. Im more of a passive pvper, and prefer living, than screaming leeeroy :) Hence my tactics reflect that.
But yeah - Many others here know what theyre talking about. Which is a rare sight in the ships and modules section. You lucky boy!

Don't mean to be trolling but actually all the cool kids don't tank their rooks,or atleast since the ecm nerf the ecm upgrades are far more usefull at 150-250km(you can get +250km optimal on the racial jammers with range rigs) than a plate and a dcu.
And to the op hams do about 20% more dps if you don't count reload time and 15% if you count it so while your using kinetic heavy missiles should do more dps but for the other 3 flavours ham's take the price for damage. But to find out wich one works the best for you and/or your gangs you will have to fly around and get a feeling for what is needed.

From the ship's description:
"5% bonus to heavy and light missile kinetic damage."
In other words, no Heavy Assault bonus.

Myself, I put 2 ecm mods, 1x800mm RT plate, 2 ecm strength rigs. I feel that 250km optimal is kind of an overkill, whereas an extra 3k armor buffer can prove to be a lifesaver, especialy in laggy situations

All depends on the gang, and pilots preference tbh guys.
I used to fit plates, but then found the manouverability more useful. But plates help when fighting snipers, ill give you that much.
