The fact that the local channel is arranged alphabetically means characters like this one always appear at the top of local. For a mercenary/solo/small gang pvper this is a significant disadvantage as they will always appear at the top of local making it easier for scouts/alts to pick you out of busy systems compared to characters who appear lower down the list.
On many an occasion have I read in local "Red-box in local" or "Hostile in system" seconds after I have jumped into a system.
It would be much fairer if local was organised in terms of time spent in the system - with those noob alts that sit in stations for hours appearing at the top and new locals join at the bottom. This would essentially remove the name discrimination that the current system offers. The fact that we have the standings icon means it is no harder to find targets or otherwise this way.
This just makes more sense.
Please de-alphabetise local! Sort it by time spent in local. I don't want to be at the top of local anymore. Ta!

I would actually like to see any Wartargets bumped to the top of the list and then perhaps sorted by time spent in system after that.
When I jump in a system, I won't want to scroll all the way through local looking for a little red star... let me know if the wartargets are there or not right away.

Why would it matter when there are only a couple people in local in 0.0?

1. Fleet battles and large gangs will have plenty of people in local. 2. It's pretty clear the OP comes from a high to low sec background, rather than 0.0. 3. Believe it or not, 0.0 is a PART of Eve, not Eve itself, no matter what your alliance mates will tell you.

I'm not sure I see any problem with local being ordered alphabetically.
... Then again, my name starts with an 'R'. ;)
There are practical reasons to have alphabetical ordering, if nothing else it makes it easier to search local for a specific player.
Anyway, I can see where you're coming from, but don't people usually watch the number of people in local, and scroll looking for red standing icons whenever it changes? In which case the order you show up in really shouldn't be a huge issue, as they should see you're there anyway.
It would be interesting though, to compare notes with other players and see if the same reaction happens to people with names that would be elsewhere in the alphabetical ordering. Maybe it really is a major issue for those at the front of the list and I just have no idea what they go through.

Yeah, but the issue is really the people at the top of th list are just noticed faster, and therefore singled out if any sort of singling out should occur.
The other problem is, no one can agree on just how local should be sorted, so they either need to give options so each player can configure local sorting themselves, or just do a generic sort by alphabetical order.
I would vote for characters newly arriving should appear at the top of the list, as those are the ones you'd be most concerned about seeing any way. Of course, I'd also vote for local disappearing, possibly becoming just constellation if it's needed, or for your name to not appear in local until you talk.

1. Yes absolutely. Also, 0.0 Alliance strongholds often have 40+ pilots (hi BRUCE ). Being top of the list makes it very difficult to operate hit and run operations. Also, as has been mentioned, some general fleet target calling is done alphabetically (hi BRUCE ).
2. Apologies if I gave that impression! I have lived in Syndicate for 2 years only going to Empire to shoot those evil war targets
3. 0.0 is great fun and should be sampled by all to get a better EVE experience IMO. All I am asking for is this silly little issue be resolved so players are not penalised in this way.

Hehe, that is fine. As long as you are in space while you do your scrolling, that'll be fine
As it is now you will see me in local without having to do anything...

How about the ability to filter out who appears in local with the same flexibility as you have with the overview?

I think that would be providing too much of a tool for people to use and local's usefulness should be limited.

So how would you propose they arrange local? Random is just silly as it'll be a pain to find people if you know their name. Having it in any other specific order would always put someone on top... and then that person will start whining.

I know some people hate local, but it makes sense to me. Clearly the info tracking in the eve universe is intense, we have instant coms over thousands of light-years, CONCORD knows the second you point at someone you shouldn't outside of 0.0 and knows when you kill rats in 0.0 (these are just a few examples).
As far as how it should be arranged, should be the same as the overview. Corp ticker, name, time in local (I think this one would be great, you could see everyone as they came in, not just the Adagos of the world), sec status, standing, wartarget, etc. However, I realize that many likely feel that this would make local a powerful tool. I'm wondering though, why is this a problem? I like having a lot of data to work with.

Makes more sense, you should of thought of a better name then one that begins with 'A'. I mean on your FIRST DAY IN EVE you can clearly tell your name would be at the top of the local list, i mean it took you this long to realize this in your career? This is more along of the lines of your own faults then anything of CCP's, instead of something starting with 'A' try the using something midrange then oh say.. L, O, S, E, R.
