I can make a choice of career between being an industrialist and building up billions in assets, or....running some clothes shops? WTF???? Is a shirt going to cost millions of ISK? I can buy some new boots...or a megathron? IT MAKES NO SENSE AT ALL. Just because a lot of people (and I'm horrified at the number of people who say they are looking forward to this) seem to want to play the Sims in Space, does NOT make it a valid direction for the game to go.
Everything I have heard about ambulation from CCP stinks of an idea that they are desperately trying to think of justification for. Multiple CEOs in a meeting room discussing battle plans over a shared map? Utterly pointless. It sounds OK, if you've never been a CEO or particpated in a battle. But in reality it adds nothing. People already have all those tools, out of game, and they work much better than they ever will in-game.
Clothes shops? I can't believe this is a serious idea. People complaining about carrier nerfs and amarr ******ation will realise how trivial those issues are once this ambulation crap gets stuffed into the game.
The key to being successful at anything is focus. CCP, for all their problems & faults, have been pretty solid so far wrt keeping the original vision of Eve intact. Not any more.
The fact is, ambulation is a requirement for their next MMO, the whole White Wolf thing. Putting it in Eve is nothing more than practise for them. It's a shame they don't realise it will probably ruin the game.
When I quit as a result of this crap, I will load everything I own into a freighter and self-destruct it outside Jita 4-4. Be there with a hauler.
Boo hoo cry me a ******* river if you don't like it then don't participate in it. You don't need to threaten to quit because at the end of the day who the hell cares? (Hint: no one) and yes I am looking for it I may even decide to upgrade my computer for it. Why? Because it's a nice change in pace so what if it's not exactly demigod like. As people have said not everyone does what is expected of them in their free time.
For all the eve loyalists that are going to quit over this there will be twice as much that will probably join because of this. so really whatever you ***** about won't change a thing so please spare us the sob story you don't like ambulation then don't use it but it's pretty clear that CCP aren't going to change things this late in the game no matter how many threads are made so why don't we drop the whole matter eh? Let's make another Jita whine instead and be happy.

Because the ambulation ideas were the single worst breach of RP in the history of Eve.

i dunno, i think the idea of ambulation sounds cool. being able to walk my avatar around a station and play minigames or get my avatar drunk with some corpmates will be better than idly spining my ship around. Don't know about everyone else, but as a pirate i spend a fair bit of time sitting in station waiting for corpmates to get their **** together so we can go roam or camp a gate, itd be fun to have something to do in the mean time.
Not to mention that this is something for all those graphic designers/modelers etc to do in between the odd new ship type. They're not the bottleneck, its the programmers/gametesters etc that are, so might as well give these guys something cool to do. Not to mention that its the #1 thing i get asked when i'm talking to people about the game "can you get out of your ship and walk around stations?"

Well, being nigh-immortal and all, you'd think pod pilots would get bored of trying to not-really-kill each other and do something else with their mountains of ISK? Aren't Gallente especially renowned for being capricious and whimsical?
In short: it's for fun. Some pod pilots, being the demigods that they are, might not have such a serious outlook on life.
And, as a previous poster said, it would be interesting to clothe yourself in garments that would break the budgets of cities/nations/planets.
Also, Ambulation is entirely optional.

These 'demigods' are still human, and have other needs than sit in a pod of goo all day long. It keeps them grounded in the world they live in, mostly by simple choice - Minmatar freedom fighters are fighting for their people, even if they are deemed 'demigods', and Amarrian slavers still serve their emperor and their empire, and not only themselves. Same with a lot of other backgrounds.

Not good enough. If some people don't want something in EVE, it must not be added at all, for its mere presence is an affront to their ego-centric point of view.
I also happen to dislike the idea of pod pilots running shops and such in theory, but having watched everything CCP have made available on the project, I will give them the benefit of the doubt, because they seem to be all about adding immersion and staying true to the backstory.
Anyway, at least people who own shops will be self-employed. Some people currently work for NPCs. Demigods working for mere mortals? Right. -

Ambulation is a step in the new direction for CCP. But it'll be an eye candy, nothing more. A way to spend your time when you're docked. It's rather possible that CCP wants to attract more customers, but tbh, ppl who ditch the though of trying Eve because it doesn't have avatars roaming around in funky clothes won't be a valuable addition to the community. I tried Guild Wars for some time and all those perma-dancing avatars are pathetic. I don't want those 133t talking kew1 kidd0s in Eve. I hope ambulation won't bring an avalanche of sci-fi fans with WoW mentality into Eve.

Sitting in station all day because there's about 15 guys waiting outside for you? No problem, just go visit the casino, get plastered, and take in a show. (in any order you choose) Meanwhile, the campers sit outside, bored to tears, but unwilling to dock because you *might* come out to be ganked.

there is a dev blog or a dev thread from over 3 years ago talking about how that in the orginal vision of eve there would be walkig everywhere possible and planatry combat and mining asteroids on foot.
your a troll. and a bad one. don't talk about something you know nothing about.
the work they doing for ambulation might have the same engine as the new mmorpg, but that pat is done, the whole thing is built for eve. none of what id going into ambulation will be used in the other mmorpg.

Its easy. Wines are the nectars of the gods, but since we are merely demigods we just have to settle with beer. And theres is nothing more honourable then serving your fellow demi deities their nectars of life.

To be honest the idea of shops just seems like a different interface to the existing market system; the more you trade and skill the more sell/buy orders your running and thus the bigger your metaphorical shop would be. All this does is give a representation of that. It also brings with it real world ideas of brand loyalty "I'll go to X brand shop because they always have Y in stock" comes in to play and thus... the immortal demi-gods empire expands.
And yeah, I won't be waiting tables or sat over the EVE equivalent of a sewing machine; that's what the little people (NPC's) are for isn't it?

Why shouldn't pod pilots reap the rewards of their immortality and celebrity, and do it in a pod-pilot designed dress made from eyelashes of 12 extinct species of koala, woven together by a thousand beautiful gallente virgins?

ive always thought of ambulation to be an inherently bad idea, more just tech demonstrations for the world of darkness MMO than somthing usefull to eve.
like putting a steak and kidney pie in a quarter of a cheesefeast pizza to demonstrate you can do pie, but dont want to cost for pie development seperate to pizza production.
