I have the same problem. If some ports need to be open can someone post them please?
Ports are only opened for network traffic to send data to you remotely, if you request a download then it isn't remote and won't need a port opened. However since you ask eve has always used 23000, but you will never need to open it to play eve, if you do you're problems are bigger than a client.
The graphics were originally ment to be through bits (crappy windows), all i can really say is it's working here, it's in beta and it's buggy. i hope ccp get it going smoothly soon

Yup, no update for me, i use a stripped version of XP without all that MS crap(tm) unfortunately, that crap also includes BITS. Ergo, no new graphics engine for me unless i get a direct link somewhere.

Is there any way to download this 850Meg beastfile without having the Client connected? I'd like to check it out and such and it'd be spiffy to be able to download it here and schlep it home on a keydrive.

Patches are downloaded to this folder:
C:\Documents and Settings\ChromeBallz\$username\Application Data\CCP\EVE\cache
Simply keep your client running while it downloads, and copy it when it's done.

My speed is fluctuating wildly between 400 and 1200 kBps, but otherwise no problems...
(yes, i enabled BITS just for this )

My test client has had the download link for weeks, but nothing has ever happened when I clicked it. Now that the graphics update is supposedly out, the download link is completely gone.
Anyone who got it able to make the files available?

Downloading at 800kb/s now.
Hint: make sure you have enough disk space available on the drive with eve on it. (CCP: maybe you should make another error message than "network error" for this.
And you don't need to have the client open, it downloads in the background.
You can use BITS download manager to check on the status and set priority.

Ok I noticed a 800mb file in my cache directory, tried to delete it but that didn't work. So I restarted bits and now the file is downloading. Some thing I noticed is that the eve news window doesn't refresh of how much is downloaded but if I restart eve the percentage is updated.

This thing is downloading at my maximum speed, much faster than a regular http download tends to be. Good work CCP!

And I find it's moving much faster while I'm surfing the web or doing other things. If I click to the client and watch it it drops to like 350K

To those people complaining about the link vanishing...have you run the SM3checker that CCP provided in a devblog a few weeks back? If that doesn't return sm3+ support, then you can't run the new content.
