With the nerf patch that is coming out in the near future what will people fit to thier ships with an extra mid slot? Do you remember when phased muons were under a mil because noone realized what they were or how good they were? Well in my opinion the "Cetus" ECM Burst is going to be the next module after the patch.....
Why?
Because with good skills on a ship like the Domi, you get a strength of over ten. What does this mean? A rook with RACIAL jammers and deascent skills gets a strength in the mids 9's. So you get a mod that jams better than a rook, and can be set to any ship.
From personal experience I can guarantee this mod will jam near 2 out of 3 activations. Enjoy 8)

not a big deal for a Battleship, and as i forsee DHB running this on his raven cap shouldnt be a problem...
isnt the range horrible tho? perhaps an oh crap mod for nano ships?

Edited by: Goumindong on 27/11/2007 23:12:14 It just breaks lock, so you need a couple damps to make it really usefull due to its long cycle time. This makes it really hard to be a "solo-pwn" module because you would need at least one, maybe two damps to make it usefull. This means you are looking at mwd, web, scram, burst, damp. Which if 5 meds and doesnt let you use an active tank. 6 for an injector to run an active tank, and 7 if you want two damps. ED: It would be O.K. without a damp, but only agaisnt ships with slow locking times, and all the ships that have slow locking times have strong sensor strengths, so you are looking at 1 jam every 60 seconds maybe keeping them from locking you for 5-10 seconds, which is a 9% reduction in incoming DPS if they have no drones.
I think that we are safe from the scourge of ECM bursting solo-pwn mobiles.

ECM bursts arent bad and will be valuable, but naming it the new i-win module. naah....
Personally i think the current i-win modules are the damagecontrol and to some extend mwd's. _________________________________________________ Breetime

And yea, they are still usefull, i was just addressing the "solo-pwn" part of the post. Unfortunatly they arent still able to break the lock of sieged capitals. Why in the world did CCP "fix" that after their devs came out saying it was intended?

I just got an idea. What about 5* dampdrones + ecm burst? I does break the lock of the drones, but they lock the target back instantly.
dampdrones arent splitted in range and lockingspeed, so this must kickass. Maybe combined with the meta drones coming out of the drone regions this can be potentially i-win.

ECM bursts have the problem of causing concord to blow your ship up if you hit anything not your corporation's with it. That's why not many people use smartbombs in high sec.

range of the module is something like 9km with skills and modules don't help em so i guess that's a rather bad i-win button. also you can only use 1 and with a max strength of 9 you maybe get a 30% chance to break the lock of a bs while draining quite a lot of cap thus lowering your own offense and defense. i guess you're better off with a target painter on almost any setup.

Well i did say 'potentially i-win'. Damps arent just nerfed, they are double nerfed. They lose or the locking time or the lockingrange and about 30% efficiency on top.
It comes down to weither the ECM burst + damp drones will perform better than a locking time damp and 5* ecm drones.
Im not a mathgod, so im not sure which one would work the best vs, for example, a battlecruiser. We will see after the patch which tactic becomes the most valuable. _________________________________________________ Breetime

I like where DHB is going with this but...
I see just a few problems:
As it stands, you have an couple slots, fit a couple damps. With 3 damps, you could totally erase someones lock. Most ships only have room for 1-2 damps, some manage to squeeze on 3. Now with your proposed idea, you will need the ecm burst, and probably 2 damps to make it viable. 1 damp would do decent, but 2 is probably necessary.
You must come into close range, so the lock range isn't a factor. It is a good chance base, but it is still chance based. Some may say fit 2 bursts.. well then you are down another mid slot, or maybe you don't have the slot to use. Not to mention more cap useage. I am guessing you are to use this on a heavily mid slot laden ship *cough raven cough*.
If that is the case, I can see many viable setups, 2 damps 2 bursts, 3 damps 1 burst etc..
So what is the point of this... It requires more slots and more cap to effectively do, you really can't do it on anything smaller than a well cap tanked BC.
As for the raven.. I can see many ticked off people being dictor bubbled with ravens wtf jamming/damping them in many 0.0 entry points soon compliments of BE.

They would be great if you could have more than one running at a time and had greater range to them. Limiting it to 1 burst running at ~9km is... weak. Theres no actual "jam" to it, just a target break, so you need scan res dampeners. Now we have 3 modules dedicated to trying to pseudojamn 1 target under 9km, at a high cap cost to boot. Throw on web + scram and now were at 5 mids, 6 mids required if you want a mwd, 7 if you want an injector...
As it currently stands, I think ecm bursts just have too many drawbacks to see much of any use. I'd personally be in favor of giving them 25km range with max skills and allow more than one to run at once. It would make for a great "break the lock and go to warp" module.

Fit it to a scorpion. The only ECM ship that gives its bonuses to this module.
Yes, it means an effective burst range of about 24km and around 13 strength.
Add damps, nos and some of the snazzy new torps and you have the new solopwnmobile.

er...nothings changed with them... They've always been quite useable for that 'spare' mid slot (Hello Hyperion).
I'd imagine they are amusing on supercapitals though, because they should have benefit from the same 'feature' as smartbombs i.e. up to 9km optimal radius (+ 6km falloff) + bounding box of ship... ----------

Don't the hactors have a much larger range than the ECM bursts? Also the mod is a bit naff for gang warfare unless your trying to break up spider tanks. And as mentioned above, you need to couple it with sensor damps to get anything good to happen.
Its NOT an i-win button you have to make sacrifices to use it (CAP!) and use other mods to get most benefit which means sacrificing some precious medslots.
Also, your choice of forum colour is not big or clever.   ============================================
