WoW was the best things to happen to me. Before i found eve i used to play a game called Ragnarok Online, the European server.
When WoW was released, there was an almost mass exodus or idiots. A good few nice players left, but generally a large part of the server which can be summed up by (heal, monies, itemz plos) left, and there was much rejoicing. Whether or not we lost more annoying players than good players is dificult to grasp, since all views are different and some people may of seen it as the opposite. But in my personal opinion WoW made the server a better place to be, and it was really fun not to be pestered for things by kids who would spam you with on word phrases or the incessant HI GER? conversations. Heck it wasn't just the kids but when WoW came the server became quite fun to play.
Then it was a RO player which showed me EVE and I've never looked back, the Euro community had made me well prepared to deal with the EVE community and after a month or 2 i was getting into it quite well, my friends helped me with some early starting isk, and generally i got hooked instantly, Internet Spaceship warfare MMO? hell yea!
I've never disliked WoW cause i can understand why people play it and enjoy it, same reasons i enjoyed Ragnarok Online, but WoW just has the stigma or perhaps the stereotypical view of the idiot player, mainly due to pretty much no consequences of losing. oh noes hp regen? As a game if didnt play RO/COV as a side game to eve id probably try WoW, i know enough people who play it to enjoy the social side to it. Its just not as appealing, And without the effect of losing anything of real substance or convenience, players would never improve. (AKA your not gonna be honour tanking many dreadnoughts before learning your lesson/quitting to a easier game)
Back to the question though, hating WoW is just socially acceptable. Its almost made classy, it labels the foolhardy or people who are not suited to this game a generic label. And a fun label at that as it seems it really garners a reaction from people which just justifies its use more. I mean that is something people dont understand, Eve is a very niche game it is quite unique and its player base adore it so for it.(Well mostly if you look outside the forums .) WoW has gained the generic hack and slash view as the many MMOs before it. much like the constant next generations of consoles all boast OMGZ LOL NEXT GENERATION thats one more generation then now. Since WoW became really big, and that you usually hear more negative then positive things about anything, there is a huge wall of stupid WoW emits. while the same wall may exist in eve, it usually gets crushed down to naught (actually losing things worth alot of time and effort ftw!) Dont get me wrong, calling everyone in WoW to stupid to play Eve is wrong, since i know enough people who would do very well in Eve but internet spaceships arent their thing, where as the mythical, my sword and armor are +3 higher than yours is.
So personally WoW is something ive never played, but it has been of good benefits to me.

WoW cannot be a to bad a game to attract its playerbase
Your gonna hear more about stupid WoW players than good ones.
