To get the most out of Trinity I just ordered a pair of 8600GT 512mbs and an extra 2GB of DDR 800 to double my ram, cool thing is delivery is the 4th of Dec so I can install it patch day
Anyone else upgrading?

I have a 500$ machine, a Core 2 Duo @1.6 GHz, 1 GB system RAM, almost bottom-of-the-line 8500GT w/512 RAM, running windows XP Pro SP2.
Can't say I care much about how "Trinity Premium" looks like with extreme shadows, HDR and High-Bloom compared to no shadows, HDR off and no bloom. On those latter settings (just premium content, everything else OFF), it runs with 30-40 FPS in-station zoomed in, 40-50 FPS in not-so-crowded places zoomed mildly and 80-ish FPS on rather empty grids and zoomed so you can still see how your ship looks like (barely).
I see no reason to spend a dime more for any upgrades. C|S|I|N|x. |

I already had an ATI x1600Pro 512MB PCI-E that can handle Trinity's requirements, but I've updated the drivers, just to be safe.

I upgraded 6 months ago for Trinity. My 2 8800GTX in SLI & e6600 core 2 duo will finally be used to their full potential.

I just upgraded to a MSI built Radeon 2600xt with 512, my mobo and chipset aren't new but it is a dualcore athalon x64 2gig so I don't think it'll have a problem. so yeah I get to see the pretty stuff, now if only I could get the test client to download it... ... Why do I PvP? Because I love the feeling I get when I see the pretty lights and know that someone somewhere is screaming incoherently at their computer screen. |

I'm tempted to buy two of those new 8800 GT cards in SLI, I'm just not sure how many % performance gain I'm gonna get with SLI compared to one card. For example at AnandTech: http://www.anandtech.com/video/showdoc.aspx?i=3140&p=12 you see a lot of difference in gain between games. I'm surely willing to spend some money on a SLI setup, but since this is the only game I play I want to be sure the new game engine scales well with an SLI setup. Else it is just a waste of money.
I'm expecting to lose a bit on SLI overhead of course, but even a 50% gain makes it a lot less cost-effective.

granted i had hdr on and high shadows but i warped to gate on sing and fps was in the low 20s with just concord and the gate and 5 people total in system. not a good sign.
play crysis at very high and 24 fps is smooth but same in eve is chop, never mind all that is going on in crysis vs what is going on in eve. hope they have a little bit better optimized build for trinity really, cant say my little test gave me alot of faith.

no upgrade for me, but my housemate has. With 4 cores and 4gb ram & sata raid hdisks on his new pc i think i can probably remote desktop into his pc over the lan and run eve without him even noticing.
I win.

Considering SLI isn't going to help EVE much, I don't know what you got a pair of 8600GTs. One 8600GTS would probably serve you better for significantly less money. --- Proud Amarr pilot.

Yeah, I just replaced my aging Radeon X800 with an nVidia GeForce 7300 GT. Trying to buy another four months out of this four-year-old rig.
One thing to keep in mind, for everyone trying to upgrade ancient machines on the cheap: you probably have AGP and not PCI-E, which limits your options. Even more importantly, however, you probably have a cruddy 280-350W power supply.
When I was looking for cards, there are several AGP cards out there which are a lot more advanced, and a lot more expensive. Normally I would have gone for one of those, but... my power supply simply wouldn't be up to the task. The X1650, for example, requires a 550W power supply with at least 38amps on the 12v rail. I can't imagine what the X1950 requires!
If you're putting in a new AGP video card, be certain to check the wattage of your power supply first, and make sure your 12v rails can handle the current!
(Can't wait until the spring when I'm going all quad-core and top-of-the-line-video!)

No the 7300GS is less powerfull than the 5900 ultra, it only provides more features. 7600GS is the minimum you should get, and I repeat minimum. 7600 Gt would be better. Or 1950 GT or 1950 pro, 1950 pro would be best IMHO.

All so very stable for teh overclockage ...
Edit: Anything I do now, nothing runs below 70fps. Fleets are actually nice now, usually 120+ fps. Ofc, it hasn't gotten rid of the lag in 150+ member fleets. _____________________________ Eldo spanked my sig but I can't be bothered changing it just now. |
