To get the most out of Trinity I just ordered a pair of 8600GT 512mbs and an extra 2GB of DDR 800 to double my ram, cool thing is delivery is the 4th of Dec so I can install it patch day
Anyone else upgrading?

I have a 500$ machine, a Core 2 Duo @1.6 GHz, 1 GB system RAM, almost bottom-of-the-line 8500GT w/512 RAM, running windows XP Pro SP2.
Can't say I care much about how "Trinity Premium" looks like with extreme shadows, HDR and High-Bloom compared to no shadows, HDR off and no bloom. On those latter settings (just premium content, everything else OFF), it runs with 30-40 FPS in-station zoomed in, 40-50 FPS in not-so-crowded places zoomed mildly and 80-ish FPS on rather empty grids and zoomed so you can still see how your ship looks like (barely).
I see no reason to spend a dime more for any upgrades. C|S|I|N|x. |

I already had an ATI x1600Pro 512MB PCI-E that can handle Trinity's requirements, but I've updated the drivers, just to be safe.

I just upgraded to a MSI built Radeon 2600xt with 512, my mobo and chipset aren't new but it is a dualcore athalon x64 2gig so I don't think it'll have a problem. so yeah I get to see the pretty stuff, now if only I could get the test client to download it... ... Why do I PvP? Because I love the feeling I get when I see the pretty lights and know that someone somewhere is screaming incoherently at their computer screen. |

I'm tempted to buy two of those new 8800 GT cards in SLI, I'm just not sure how many % performance gain I'm gonna get with SLI compared to one card. For example at AnandTech: http://www.anandtech.com/video/showdoc.aspx?i=3140&p=12 you see a lot of difference in gain between games. I'm surely willing to spend some money on a SLI setup, but since this is the only game I play I want to be sure the new game engine scales well with an SLI setup. Else it is just a waste of money.
I'm expecting to lose a bit on SLI overhead of course, but even a 50% gain makes it a lot less cost-effective.

granted i had hdr on and high shadows but i warped to gate on sing and fps was in the low 20s with just concord and the gate and 5 people total in system. not a good sign.
play crysis at very high and 24 fps is smooth but same in eve is chop, never mind all that is going on in crysis vs what is going on in eve. hope they have a little bit better optimized build for trinity really, cant say my little test gave me alot of faith.

Yeah, I just replaced my aging Radeon X800 with an nVidia GeForce 7300 GT. Trying to buy another four months out of this four-year-old rig.
One thing to keep in mind, for everyone trying to upgrade ancient machines on the cheap: you probably have AGP and not PCI-E, which limits your options. Even more importantly, however, you probably have a cruddy 280-350W power supply.
When I was looking for cards, there are several AGP cards out there which are a lot more advanced, and a lot more expensive. Normally I would have gone for one of those, but... my power supply simply wouldn't be up to the task. The X1650, for example, requires a 550W power supply with at least 38amps on the 12v rail. I can't imagine what the X1950 requires!
If you're putting in a new AGP video card, be certain to check the wattage of your power supply first, and make sure your 12v rails can handle the current!
(Can't wait until the spring when I'm going all quad-core and top-of-the-line-video!)

No the 7300GS is less powerfull than the 5900 ultra, it only provides more features. 7600GS is the minimum you should get, and I repeat minimum. 7600 Gt would be better. Or 1950 GT or 1950 pro, 1950 pro would be best IMHO.

Just had this arrive a couple of days ago..
C2D E6750 Oc to 3.8 gig 2gig OCZ Reaper DDR2 800 cas 3 MSI NeoCombo-F mainboard ATI X1950GT DDR3 256bit 512mb (was only $90 so don't crab at me about not getting an 8800.. ) 2 WD1600 SATAII
It OMGWTFBBQ's Eve premium with all ingame settings maxed with extreme shadows and 2x AA.. I get about 30-40fps at the FF1 with lots of everything on the screen.. Setting shadows to high boosts it to about 90-120 fps in the same area and settings.. Screen res is 1920x1080.. Eve classic on the other hand does a lot better than the current client on the same hardware but all the old problems are still there like long grid load times and such..
Eve premium is looking to be the client of choice if you want no client side lag in major engagements..

Though not for Trinity, I did upgrade recently..
From an Athlon64 3800+, 1 GB DDR, 7800GT,
to an Intel C2Duo 6550 2.33 @ 3.1 GHz, 4 GB DDR2. Of course I still have the 7800GT for a while. But hey, Christmas and all. With HDR and the shadows set to Low, I run an average of 30-50 fps at 1440x900. Not that impressive but better than I've been seeing.
Anyway, back to overclocking.. I think I can hit 3.3 GHz. --- lol.. I messed up.

Maybe, at a later point, i'll upgrade, to see the new shinyness of my abaddon,, but it ain't too important for me atm (as in ; i'd like to make CCP clear out all quirks before upgrading)!

Just a quick question. If I have an AMD Athlon 3400 now, would I benefit to update to a dual or quad core if I plan on running only one instance? I'm not worried about ram/video card - I just want to know if changing chips would help? .... My Eve Music |

Edited by: Lysianna on 01/12/2007 17:00:08 Author,
I had the 3500+ before my upgrade and from what I remember, the game had some issues once in a while. Specially in huge battles, so unless Trinity is extremely polished, not sure if the 3400+ will cut it.
my current kit:
Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU E6750 @ 2.66GHz (2 CPUs) Memory: 2048MB RAM (633mhz) Hard Drive: 320 GB Total (SATA 7400RPM) Video Card: NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTS

I haven't had a problem for 2 eve years on the +3400 amd, just wondering if a dual/quad core will help when running one instance? (The 3400 runs at 2.2ghz). Your dual core runs at 2.66Ghz. I don't see that being such a big jump in speed. I am unfamiliar with how dual core works - I think that eve will still only use one processor, right?

A dual core CPU is always better even if a game doesn't directly use both cores because you tend to find 1 core handles the OS and other background processes while the other runs the game, that's an oversimplified description as there is more to it than that but that's the basic principle.

I upgraded for Trinity a few months ago when screenshots were starting to be released more frequently.
E6600, 8800GTS 640MB, 2GB RAM, etc. I bought a 22" dell widescreen, too. Eve looks gorgeous as it is with this setup.

AMD Athlon 64 X2 5000+ 7950 GTX 2gb DDR2 @ 800mhz 37" LG LCD Primary / 19" Samsung LCD for acct number 2.
Should be ok with this and ships look so much better when they fill a 1/4 of your wall.

One PC will run classic & bought a cheap nvidia 7600GS for the other to get a flavour of the new dx9 stuff. I think that's fine for me atm.
I'm long overdue for a whole new PC but I figure I'll wait for the dx10 version. I'm assuming that means I'll be waiting for years but thats ok as long as these 2 old warhorses hang together

Upgrading to a 5200 AMD Dual core (2 x 2.6ghz) with a 8600 GT card and 2 gig DDR2 (800mhz) - Running Vista home premium.
Current PC - Sempron 2.6 (18 ghz) and a GE Force 7600 with 1 gig of slow old Ram on Windows XP
I'm hoping that this will help me with the following issues:
1) warp into fleet battle. - Lag out and die staring at the same frame for 5 mins 2) jump through gate - wait 30 secs for screen to load while everyone else warps off 3) 2 - 3 fps when waiting with a large gang with nothing going on
Please someone tell me I've got a hope of improving my gameplay with this setup
It would also be nice if the upgrades PC made Amarr work, but lets face it CCP don't really want to fix Amarr, do they?

You will be pleasantly surprised with the performance you can get with the premium content on even a modest SM3 rig..
