I have just noticed this new option in the new content settings. This ranges from low to extreme. What is the function of this, and, how should we set it considering our video ram size, cpu, etc..?

Edited by: Simplus Massive on 02/12/2007 14:47:06 So far, there is no clear cut answer to this I'm afraid, read up on the discussions in these threads for the time being:

This is a memory cache for object models.
It means you can tell your computer how much memory it can use to store object models.

Moahr!!! obviously... Any indications on how much memory is used in every setting? That should make choosing a setting a lot easier. _______

Look at your prefs.ini:
High seems to be 256MB cache Extreme seems to be 512MB cache

Edited by: CCP Lingorm on 06/12/2007 11:12:36 The cache settings are as follows
None = 0MB Low = 32MB - Default for Classic Client Normal = 128MB High = 256MB - Default for Premium Extreme = 512MB
This guides the client in how much memory it can use to store Object models in Memory (RAM).
This means that client does not have to load the models from the Hard Drive, but from RAM.

he said RAM, not GPU memory. so your Graphics card memory doesnt really make a difference to this setting.
If your using multiple clients I suppose you would set this option low, otherwise your system ram will fill up quickly, and when that happens it starts using the page swap-file.
Think id rather Eve access the hardrive every now and then than having to grind through swap files each time you alt-tab

Well, believe it or not, The GPU has RAM as well...
Maybe a Dev could tell us if this really is Graphics RAM or other RAM (other I could easily use up 1 GB)... --- This is your Captain speaking. Thank you for flying with our spaceline. Please remain seated until the ship has completely burned out. Thank you. |

Where do you find that option? I have it in neither my esc menu nor my prefs.ini.

While you are technically correct i'd say this is the-RAM-that-is-not-gpu-memory as that one is usually refered to as VRAM (Video RAM) -------------------------- War. War never changes EvE Training Monitor / iMonitor / iCEO EvE iHelper |
