Hello everyone, i just killed a new, and after telling me in local what ******* i am (bla bla bla) he told me he wishes i die soon.
now that doesnt realy frighten me much, but the rate of such wishes is sort of increasing. during the last weeks i had about 8 newbs telling me
a) they wish i will die soon or b) they cursed me to die soon or c) they hope for an accident to me to happen.
while im not realy scared about that to happen im seriously wondering what is happening to this GAME - looks like a lot of the new folks arent realy relaxed about it?
regards, pp

Eve is gaining notoriety and more players are comming from WoW or (insert other MMO)...when they see how harsh and unforgiving EVE can be they get upset. It is certainly not what they expect out of a game when the ones they are used to playing have "pvp regions or servers"

Edited by: Grunanca on 03/12/2007 07:43:49 We got a pvp region too, its called New Eden.
Just tell em that Jovian space is npc space, and that they can enter through a gate in one of the nearby systems. (of course make sure to show em how map works so they go there)

Just petition them, better do it while they are noobs then later when they got a 20+ mil sp account banned due to rl threats against another player.
The last guy who called me some rather nasty five and four letter words ended up being the subject of my brand new petition. Within about ten minutes he cut his conversation short and went offline and didn't come back the entire evening. I'm sure he used his time away from EVE wisely to cool off and remember that it is just a game and a teen rated one at that, and no matter how much alcohol you drink it doesn't serve you as a permit to start verbally abusing other players. I got no problem with people feeling upset/angry over losing a game but jeez being totally irate, typing all kinds of obscenities practically foaming at the mouth, some of these guys really do need a break from EVE.

As was previously stated, EVE is seeing an influx of new players who have become bored with the repetitive PvP that WoW (and other MMO's) offer.
After all, alot of players felt totally shafted when WoW's new expansion meant they could upgrade gear they spent weeks raiding to get, by simply killing a solo NPC and loot a common type item with better stats.
The main reason why they are comming to EVE should be obvious...
CCP is advertising around various gaming sites now that Trinity is only days from being launched. I've seen many new players who came to EVE in the rookie corps where I still have some of my alts.
The problem for alot of those people, when it comes to the PvP and ganking, is that they are not used to losing items and such in the PvP MMO's they used to play.
Dying in WoW, to use the obvious example, meant nothing other than losing a bit of ranking or points on the PvP rank/charts.
Dying in EVE can mean hours, days, sometimes even weeks of work going ka-blam. And for someone who aren't aware of those consequences... well... of course they'll be mad.
And when they have no capabilities to strike back, they resort to "barrens chat", aka smack-talking.
The more new players we get into EVE who aren't aware of the consequences to PvP and can't fight back, the more smack talk you'll get.
I wouldn't be too worried though. They'll either learn that EVE is a harsh universe where you need to be on your toes, or they will simple end up leaving the game, which is fine too.
CCP do say in their advertisements that EVE offers the most hardcore PvP (PvP loss anyways) of any MMO on the market.
In any regards, I've been called a griefer, that they hope I die, that I must have been beat up or abused as a child and what more colorful variants of insults you can think of, when I've popped someone's ship.
My way of thinking is, the day I start taking insults from totally random and unknown people, over the internet, seriously, is the day when I need to sell my computer.
Am I jaded, cynical and got beat up as a child? Again, I don't care what you might think

maybe they think it is part of the "game play" a ploy to make lowsec seem more dangerous.
I honestly think the reason is because no other game makes you work for what you have and doesn't give it back when your killed. game over...no revive, no spell of life, no..whatever else they use..back to square one
that is also what makes eve great...the loss is real, and some people just can't handle that. We live in a world today that has saves, extra lives, difficulty levels, etc..etc. Eve is definatley outside the box as far as that goes.

Same here. Got a 2 day old in a Caracal asking for pewpew. When he popped in about 30 seconds to my vexor (only used my light blasters due to his age) and realized he had only HMLs fitted, no other modules at all . Gave him a few tips and a bit of knowledge in addition to a couple of mils to get a new ship with proper fittings just because he was such a good sport.

its kinda funny, for the longest time i was getting responses like the ones you got, but the last few noobs i killed were really chill guys who stuck around in local and talked for a bit, and i ended up sending them a mill or two and giving them some advice to help them out.
If someone has 6+ mill SP they should know better than to come to lowsec if they're not willing to lose their ship, but some of these noobs just don't realise the risk of lowsec. its not some high level zone where you go once you've leveled up enough to kill the big bad npc monsters like someone coming from wow expects of a "danger! now entering low sec!" warning. They've been at it for two straight months, upgraded their ship 3 or 4 times, theyre ready by now right?

As Arekhon said, a lot of players seem to be coming over from WOW where if you do PVP and loose, there isn't any penalties, whereas in EVE, if someone shoots down your mining ship and it's all you have, EVE doesn't care and your set back a long way.
I was ransommed in 0.4 space the other day and after I had paid, I discovered my warp drive was working again and was soon back in 0.5. The guy had said sorry things were a bit hectic and if they had had more time, they would have made more of an effort to ensure me they honoured ransoms. The thing that makes me want to keep subscribing to EVE is that you can sometimes have a nice chat with your ransomers who will sometimes suggest ways in which you can improve on your tactics.

I don't think you can blame this on wow. Ive never experienced something like that in wow not even when ppl at the highest lv visit starting areas and kill everyone over and over and over.
Ive had ppl wish my whole family would get raped and murdered in eve, never was even close to that in wow. I might have been called idiot, ****head or smth in wow but thats all.

You need to look at a more complex system than just
"Its a game"
because that is in fact not true. Not everything that happens to you in this game will stay in the game.
For example, you need to invest real-life time to gather items/whatever. And now some "ebil piwate" comes and destroys these items and probably enjoys doing so. That situation initiates very much anger in certain people. I personally consider those people "carebears". Its hard to lose real-life time in form of ingame items, sure, but always remember that you don't want to end up as a carebear crying for its mommy. Take your losses like a man, get a new ship, kick ass again.

You lose real-life time whether you lose your stuff in eve or not.
You are trading the option of going outside for collecting f'ing pixels. If losing pixels bothers you so much you should collect something that isn't so transient.

Man can I just say - when I first started playing - I was pretty drunk with my friend, and we spent 30 minutes trying to figure out a way to invade Jove space!
We were going setup our mighty empire there and steal all the high tech knowledge the Jove had...

as i said im not scared by it, im just suprised about how much of that attitude im experiencing in the last time..
however i think that wow explanation might be a good reason - but for my part i can say i switched from wow to eve-o about one and a half year ago - mainly cause i wanted the more intense gameplay that you get when you actually experience losses instead of wows mikey mouse pvp.
when i got killed the first time i convoed the pirate who did it (and whom i consider a friend today) and asked him why i didnt get killrights on him and what i could have done better..
