Or become a pirate because you are an immature idiot who, in the rich, complex world that is EVE, can't think of anything else to do than blow up the defenseless because you can and you like seeing things go boom.

Lol, get a clue.
Some pirate because pirating is what they wanted to do other people pirate because they want to pvp and are struggling for a reason, which this rich and complex world somehow fails to give them.

Somebody else had a thread about what it means to be a carebear. I think this post just about sums it up...

Regardless of the moral implications, the game mechanics allow for pirating.
Otherwise, the entire universe would be 1.0 under the watchful eye of Concord and we'd all be holding hands and picking daisies together.

Speaking as a noob who got destroyed by a pirate i think pirates are a good thing. I was on an agent mission on my second day going through 0.3 space
Now of course I know better.
think how boring eve would be if there was no pvp
Hell the whole point of the game is to get a battleship and go kick ass!

And you can't think of anything else to do in eve? And I am the sad one?
Ever tried manufacturing, trading, agent missions, guarding convoys, killing npcs...
Oh what's the use? I am rapidly coming to the conclusion that the average IQ of eve players is about 90, and the average emotional age is about 13.

Pirates mean i have targets to shoot without feeling bad about killing some poor ******* who was in the wrong place at the wrong time.
So go ahead be a pirate... I will be a Kamikaze carebear...
And the world will be a better place
You go now. ho-k?

You hit the nail right on the head, becasue most pirates I know did most of the above. I personally did everything except the guarding convoys.
I still kill npcs, but it aint half as much fun as killing people. About 95% of the people i kill have no problem with it, most of the slant against pirates comes from people who never go to 0.4 and below.
There are no reasons to become a pirate, you either are one or your not!
Its like some1 being a carebear, they dont do it on purpose, probably make excuses for themselves everyday...Like who in their right mind plans on being a total ass?

Well of curse the most fun in eve is to kill other players, fight about territories and so on. Here u can go two ways. You can be the Aggressor or the Defender. Since the Aggressor know the ôwhenö he is always in the better situation. At the moment he attacks he has his whole fleet on. The Defender mostly has first to call his members, and perhaps the needed one are not on-line, or far away. Hunting Gate Campers is very difficult too. Mostly they are sitting close to the gate, so if they are get scared they can jump within a second. While pirates can shoot at everyone the hunter has to separate carefully and spends hours to search. (Mostly with no result) So at last Fighting on ôthe good sideö is very very difficult. So if u want much more pvp I think u have only the chance to be a pirate. If it is relay funny to kill mostly Indys, Cruisers and ganking on Single Battleships I relay donÆt know. From my experience the best fights are in a 4:5, 6:7 or 6:8 Relation. (If the enemy outnumber u a little they mostly donÆt run).

wow wildcard, that is a pretty decent post. I agree with the slightly outnumber thing. It adds a bit more excitement. One side presumes they can win easy and the other knows it has to really concentrate if they are going to fight. Then on the battlefield it is quite even. i like this side to fights. But YOU still ganked me lol. :P Mimiru > It'd be a tie, the monkies nerfed pooflinger wouldnt have enough tracking to hit the parrot orbiting him, but the parrot's beak is so small it couldnt break the monkey's fur tanking. |

Pirates r kewl because they r always up for a fight and dont tend to run as much unlike the ppl who sit there and whine all day about o i got ganked by a pirate in unsafe space well there is a warning on the game about low sec space so i suggest u read it. pirating is fun and for the ppl who moan about it go try it ;)
btw if i see that person who slagged of pirates then i will happily blow u up. -------------------------------------------------------------------------

If you ever wanna do something fun, hop in a fast frigate and go out 30-40 jumps toward Fountain, or Curse, or any one of the areas that people claim are "pirate infested".
Listen to local and watch it.
You'll swing by camped gates, pass through war zones, discover people mining in systems far away.
These people are a blast to talk to, chat, listen to. They are having FUN !
I did this last night. It was a lot of fun, and I learned some things. Just because somebody shoots you, it doesn't make it personal. Its business.
I'd say the pirate business is booming.

Good evening gentlemen. I would say that this wonderful universe need both pirates and bounty-hunters As every other game I was in, PvP is the true essence in any MMORPG... can you compare the adrenal flux behind your eyes when you are fighting with another human, hopingly cunning and well prepared for the fight, with just kill npc drones or sit in a belt mining roids for hours? I know that there are many other things to do, and not just npc chain and mining, I tried it all. Anyway, I guess that everyone deserve the right to think as he likes, so I don't blame pirates nor I do with the so called "carebears". Maybe what is funny for someone, can be utterly boring for someone else. Luckily enough, EvE's universe is really huge, and here's plenty of space for everyone and plenty of opportunities for each game style. If someone don't like pirates, he can easily avoid to lurk in 0.0 regions. Yes, you can say "but high end ores are only there!", and I cannot do anything else but agree with you. Just wonder : would be so fun to have everything at your disposal without an effort? I made a really hard path to achieve my goal, to be accepted in this great Corporation I am in. If I had only to apply to join, all my fun that I am having thanks to this great opportunity, would be nerfed. I like to work for my goal, since I can enjoy the fruits of my works much more than I could if I have them too easily. Back to the point, I for myself like to be alwais on guard, and I like the confrontation with another human player. Good luck and "safe" travels to you all Sirs!

Erm... somehow funny how a post can drift away... Why can pirates and non-pirates never be on a non-serious-mode?
Can it be that there is a slight nexus to Captain Ahab versus Moby ****?

Edited by: Zarquon Beeblebrox on 15/03/2004 10:19:37 I have many things to say about pirates and pirate hunters.
since im not so long ago left a pirate hunter corp i feel i still need some space from it to let you in on my view in this matter.
I my self strive to become a some what diferent pirate then the one described in this posts. But im not close to saying pirates are like described.
I have much more or at least much diferent fun as a pirate then i had as a pirate hunter. I do read posts from hunters how "we" are but i my self dont feel this dscriptions are even close to how i view my self and my actions.
For my reasons to "become" a pirate i can only say this.
I always have been a pirate in this game. Check my corp history and im sure it reflect a char that dont find her self "home" in the corps and "jobs" she was set to do. She have always been on search for her true goale. Or she felt "unnormal" in her corps and become an outlaw to be able to support her self with clotes, food, amo, modules and ships in this world of EVE wich is pritty expensive.
We all need to support our self and if you can not do that in a regulere 9 to 16 job, then perhaps you need to live of the scraps you are able to get your hands on like any other "vulture"

Edited by: Erys on 15/03/2004 11:22:57 I love pirates. Who else to count on to destroy ships that we, producers, can then sell for insane amounts of money to those that find themselves flying pods? NPC cant do anything right those days
I do however frown on pod killing but then... Who cares what i think!

This is a question that the psychologists at the Institute of Mental Health and Welfare stationed in Luminare might be able to answer. They will say things like: "Ninety percent of pirates were abused as children." OR ôSixty-seven percent of known pirates are of the Caldari and Minmatar heritage." OR ôTests have shown that a great majority of pirates never had a mother or motherly influence as a child."
On the other hand, I say: Bull crap! I pirate b/c I thoroughly enjoy it and b/c it is the only aspect of the game that involves constant risk and expertise to master.
