Yup (mabey) http://oldforums.eveonline.com/?a=topic&threadID=651488
If you've already patched . Best thing anyone can do at these big patches is un-install eve and download the full new build, always causes less problems.
For clarification it is the classic to premium upgrade that does this (pulled off the website by now) not the full premium build, it's good to go.

I'm sorry but I can't believe how much the following post annoyed me. You have basically said that you saw the fault ON the test server BEFORE CCP was patching, knew about it, developed a workaround for yourself but didn't think to send them a bug report?
This is what having a Test server with player access is for. Your get access to pre-release content with the understanding that you tell them about bugs. CCP would have fixed this if one person TOLD them there was a problem.
*sigh*
The thing that really annoys me is that AFTER you tell us you had the power to stop this, you had a dig at CCP's QA team.
Fortunately this didn't affect me though as I didn't leave the eve directory on the c: drive. Now I need to check my friends can still get in. *sigh*

Originally by: Aaron Sylasta Just posting to say I'm getting the boot.ini thing as well. I'd be interested in knowing what this patch is doing to my computer that involves messing up an important system file like that
When I installed the graphics upgrade, the first thing the patcher did was "Delete file: \boot.ini". This image shows specifically what I mean.
I got the missing boot.ini startup error after mucking about with the test server build a couple days ago. Put 2 and 2 together and figured the test patch must've done something. So this time around, I kept an explorer window open watching the C:\ root, while running the content upgrade patch, and voila! C:\boot.ini went bye-bye before my very eyes.
Perhaps CCP's QA team is in need of a little time out.

Thanks for the link Mindstar. I was able to recover with the info provided. However this should *never* have happened as I'm sure everyone at CCP would agree. Whoever screwed this up should be fired. It is inexcusable.

Originally by: CCP Mindstar This article from Microsoft should be of assistance to those having issues with boot.ini and hal.dll errors when starting Windows.
Have you seen yet how many are having this problem. FIX IT! Dont just refer to an article . I know very well that you can fix it that way but how many will be able to get to their recovery console.
My new vaio wont start as the boot ini file and the hal32 is now missing and it has to go on repairs. Those errors in sonys case also messes up the entire auto restore software suit and similiar for HP. Fix the error, I am not alone in Hal errors since yesterday there are loads of people here having this SERIOUS issue.

"i've lost weeks of work and you owe me thousands"
I think not. Perhaps you should check the EULA before making such bold claims:
---------------------------------------------- 12. NO WARRANTIES The Software, System, Game and all Game Content, and all other services and material provided in connection therewith, are provided "AS IS," with all faults, and without warranty of any kind. You assume all risk of use and all risk associated with accessing the System and playing the Game. ----------------------------------------------

Edited by: Duncan Jax on 06/12/2007 12:07:30 As a follow up to this problem, even though the MS link fixed the missing hal.dll issue my computer boots noticeably slower now and refuses to find my printer which was never a problem before the Trinity patch.
This patch amounts to malware and is worse than any virus I've ever had.

I'm no troll, just someone that gets annoyed by mindless posts.
1. Its unlikely the poster has lost weeks of work, *very* unlikely. Unless said poster has formatted his disk or forced a clean install of Windows. Neither of these scenarious are very likely.
2. CCP owe noone anything. The EULA clearly states (as virtually all software EULAs do) that CCP is not held responsible for any damage caused the the use of their software.
Most likely this poster has spent *no* time reading the other more informative posts that give clear simple instructions on how to fix this issue. Instead, they've just added another mindless rant to a long list, most of which CCP will undoubtably ignore....
Just my $0.02....

unfortunatly ccp eula while it says they are not responcible, causeing computers to basicly self destuct, "bit harsh" but under international law regaurdless what it states they are in fact liable "remem windoz suits" ntm vast makers of many programs who lost thier fight due to bad coding!
need a referance well im not gonna waste time looking i think the average 13 year old is capable of taking 2 min and verify the above as fact. see does anyone remember battlefeild 1942 remem the patch they put out ? only fix was to format they lost millions of bucks!!! <-- thats a fact same eul;a also see where the issue would be if thaey are liable would be if they intentionally did this with knowladge berfore hand and if they offer no correction patch or recoding id say its only a matter of time berfor a lawyer dl the patch and says i think we have a case

It's unbelievable CCP has not yet issued an official apology.. not that it will help bring back fubar:ed PCs but.. at least it's something.
Also the story is out:

Well I did reboot and got the same error as everyone else, but it booted anyway since I left System restore on and it restored what was missing, interesting, fianlly I can claim that microsoft did something right this time.

I always thought the whole point of an EULA was to indemnify companies against these type of mistakes.
Still, you prolly know more than me and IANAL so I'll leave it there....
