It's not outrageous. This is a serious example of someone (or someones) not doing their job(s) and they should be punished. If a factory is producing sparkplugs for your car and a bunch come through faulty, and make it all the way out into cars, someone should be fired to take care of those who's cars didn't start. QA (quality assurance) is a big part of programming any major piece of software from a major company, which CCP is. It may be slightly outrageous to say "Oh, fire the programmer, hang him/shoot him/castrate him", but the QA guys/gals should definitely be given a severe going over and the department should be reworked.
It is CCP's responsibility to us as consumers to produce a product that is going to be safe to use, just as it is the responsibility of McDonald's to produce "safe" food. If McD's puts out burgers with E.Coli in them they get sued, so there should definitely be repercussions for CCP. That being said, the talk of lawsuits is quite premature. If CCP doesn't respond to this, sure..sue them to the best of your ability. FIRST, give them a change to respond and apologize for the damage they have caused. They have a lot of egg on their faces right now and I'd be willing to bet that there is a lot of finger pointing and name calling going on in Iceland right now.
Let them get this mess sorted out, make an official statement/response, then start talking lawsuits and reimbursement. For now, lets just get the problem fixed.
No! You completely wrong! And any company controlled in such way would be a disaster!
You do NEVER fire a good employee just because he made 1 mistake, doesn't matter how serious it was. Everyone makes mistakes from time to time. If he constantly did that type of stuff, then yes, firing would be reasonable.
Polinus,
I am not sure what kind of business experience you have in managing a development company but it's not that way in most corporate environments. Whoever is responsible is the party who gets the punishment and maybe also the manager of the department for letting a product get out that has not been fully checked.
I agree with Ailean Caldair in what he says as it won't do us any good to not give the company a chance to redeem themselves.
And if you wonder about my experience. I am an IT Administrator/Manager of a 1000+ employee company. So I think I have just A LITTLE bit of experience on this one. :) |
