what part of "with the so called faulty patch" were noobish? All I'm saying is that it appearently didn't mess up any of the computers I upgraded to premium (again, I used the so called faulty patch from classic to premium).
And I still think that microsoft are the problem and not CCP (even if naming a program file boot.ini when your writing software for windows is a bit stupid, but I've seen worse things). cheers

If I uninstall eve, do a fresh reinstall off of a new download and a new content patch, will i be fine? No you should be fine. Its the actual installer that removes boot.ini. Just downloading it won't harm your computer. (UNLESS if your talking about downloading the premium content using your eve client).

Originally by: Karrde CZ I'll be surprised if CCP doesn't land a sh1tload of lawsuits very soon.
Deleting files that are NOT PROPERTY OF CCP should be a criminal offense (or at least a misdemeanor). It's pretty much destruction of private property.
cheers.
Then I shall sue all the makers of anti virus programs for deleting my viruses ;p Or maybe sue microsoft for having an in built "uninstaller" in their OS....
and good luck with trying to sue CCP... Iceland still hunts whales ya know..

Originally by: Nabias thanks Tiberius Xavier for the instruction using note pad. One question though....even though my boot.ini was missing i was able to boot my pc up this morning with out any problems? anyone know why? I have a single sata hdd , could that be the reason why?
Appearently it only affects users that have winXP and haven't allowed the system to upgrade to SP2. end quotet response:
If this is the case then I recon alot of the poor victims have either ignored the M$ instructions to keep your system up to date (with the free automatic windows updates) or have a piracy copy of windows (and then I don't feel sad for them). But then again there's probably a few who's run old versions of windows on machines powerful enough to use the "premium content" (but those should be minimal in nr).
And stop comparing software blame/flame with IRL manufacturing and such.
ps: and I hope all you loudmouths who screams for someone to get fired gets fired yourselves "permanently".

Originally by: oopty****typants if this happens to u will it require a reinstall of windows or can it be fixed without that?
No. Your computer is simply missing the file it needs to start up. If that file is restored the computer should work fine again.

Maybe because 17/18 patches and upgrades from CCP have been rather flawless? And remember it got fixed some 2hrs after the official DT was over.

if I uninstall my EVE client classic and then download the premium pack and install it on some other drive then the windows drive should I have any trouble with new eve client.
I checked my c drive and boot.ini file is in place.
I am asking again the same question as before....and I am using Win XP SP2.... I have windows on my C: drive, and old EVE client on my D:, I already unistalled my old EVE client...
So if I download new premium EVE client and install it on D: drive should I have any problems with rebooting my PC...
NO, it's all been fixed. And keeping the client and OS separated on different disks, and using Sp2 keeps you out of the dangerzone.

Originally by: Rheinkraft Right I have tried fixing my desktop but its still down with the error message, I put in the recovery disc and load it but theres nowhere that lets me press (R) to get the recovery console. I have phoned my computors tech suport and they said the only way it can be fixed is to wipe the hdd.... if thats the case then im f***ed. Is there any other way to bring the recovery console up??
Worst case scenario... insert you HDD into another machine (as a secondary drive) and replace the boot.ini file. All your files and **** n stuff should still be there.. no need to re-install or format anything

Originally by: Frygok I'm in doubt whether I dare actually reboot my computer using the option "Last time it worked", since I am not sure how long time it will roll back my computer? Anyone have any idea if this will even help, or when it saves settings?
Yes, it only rolls back drivers and some software installation. Your files and settings should remain unaffected.

i say again.
DOES ANYONE know where this premium upgrade was stored ????? I need to delete it but cant find it....
Please
I will keep posting in hopes that someone is actually reading all 50 pages..
Just download the new patch, install it and be happy. No need to remove anything as long as your "hidden" boot.ini is still there and/or your computer still reboots.

Originally by: Yoshi Horohito The Yoshi Horohito fix:
Here is what I did and it seems to be working for me, as I just rebooted and risked my computer not working to help the rest of you.
Now I have Windows 2000 professional and have no idea if this is a fix for Windows XP, but checking won't hurt.
So I went to start and then search, to search my files and folders for "boot.ini". I came up with a boot.ini located in my Eve folder (good job guys) and a boot.ini.backup located in C:\WINNT\pss. I copied the file called boot.ini.backup to my desktop and opened it with notepad......it looked pretty ok based on what you guys have been typing as what should be in it. I went up to file then save as and saved it as boot.ini.
On my desktop it still had the .backup extension just to **** me off so I clicked on the name of the file to rename it and simply deleted the .backup part of the name thus leaving it called boot.ini
I then copied this new boot.ini file (it magically transformed its icon appearance when I deleted .backup) to my C drive. I did this by opening "my computer" then doubble clicking the C: drive and dragging the boot.ini file in there.
I did the test to see if I had a boot.ini file now by doing what CCP said to check: Start: Control Panel: System: Advanced: Startup and Recovery: Settings.
This time it didn't alert me to my boot.ini file being missing, originally it had.
I then crossed my fingers and restarted my computer as it was the only way I would find out if this boot.ini.backup file that I had converted had all the info in it necessary to allow my computer to actually reboot correctly.
Since I am making this post here, I'm assuming this fixed my computer and the boot.ini file I put in the C: drive is still there and hasn't re-disappeared or anything.
So hopefully that will help the few of you who have not rebooted your computer yet and are waiting for CCP to figure something like this out for you.......
another good way to fix it yes, grats n thanx (on behalf of those too ****ed to give such)

Originally by: LemonyLIme I have the Boot.ini file, but on the last line of code it has:
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Windows XP Media Center Edition" /noexecute=optin /fastdetect
the /noexecute=optin is in my file but not in the example you give. Judging from what it says im guessing it isnt good.
While I still have the file, the in-game graphics are pretty messed up along with a few other problems, such as the market not appearing when clicked, and general computer lag.
Your boot.ini having that different line is probably coincidental.
No problem with that boot.ini file, looks fine

Installed Premium upgrade before 4am.
Applied Patch
Turned comp off after.
Boot.ini file is deleted, windows will not load.
My computer is an off the shelf with windows pre-installed, (No Windows disc)
I have no-where to recover a copy of boot.ini.
How do I recover from this with no windows disc?
(Edit) Posting from my work comp not on XP
Ask your PC vendor (or a friend) for a windows CD, worst case... install a new windows (or LINUX it's freee) in a different folder on the same computer (do not format or anything else). The computer should start up with no dataloss (everything will look different though). Check under C: and make sure the boot.ini is there (if it's not, create one following CCPs simple steps). Edit it or to have it point towards your old windows (the one under C:\WINDOWS) reboot and all should be fine...
option2: Remove the HDD from your computer, insert it into another computer (anywhere with windowsXP or vista) as a secondary drive. Start the computer up and copy the boot.ini from the "new" computer (or the internet) to your old HDD. Re insert the HDD to your computer and all should be fine (no dataloss).
edit: you obviously are on a computer now, you can always download a boot.ini from the web or write your own (or download a linux for free).

Basiacally the helpline, was not able to help
Get a boot.ini file and put it on a USB stick (from the web). then go here http://www.knopper.net/knoppix/index-en.html make a linux bootable CD and start up your PC with it. Insert the USB stick (or similar) and copy the boot.ini file to your c: remove the linux cd/dvd and restart.
