I can confirm that this is not true. The bug affects all versions of XP.

Don't think so. I'm on my laptop right now, which has no boot.ini, and has been rebooted, so as long as you can get in Windows, you should be ok.
um i can't im on a different computer.
this is really making me want to quit this damn game. and before you ask for my stuff im putting it in a bunch of unlocked cans in amamake 3-1.
Since it did not reboot sucessfully, you need to use your windows disk to restore your boot.ini file. There are instructions in an announcement in the Player News Center item. The instructions for those who rebooted are at the bottom, after clicking "Read more".
Quote: For users who have rebooted their computers after installing the Classic to Premium patch:
Boot from your OS cd and follow the directions to start Recovery Console. You must be logged in as the machine's local administrator. Choose the corresponding number asked of you for your OS is on, normally its #1 Then type: - Attrib -H -R -S C:\Boot.ini - DEL C:\Boot.ini - BootCfg /Rebuild - Fixboot

Originally by: Meridius Dex OK, I got through the first 9 pages and couldn't take any more. If someone could just clarify this issue --
The boot.ini file recommended for replacement here contains:
Quote: [boot loader] timeout=30 default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS [operating systems] multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP" /fastdetect
But after checking my boot.ini.backup file in c:\windows\pss, I find it contains the following:
Quote: [boot loader] timeout=30 default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS
[operating systems] multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP" /fastdetect multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP" /fastdetect multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(3)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP" /fastdetect multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(4)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP" /fastdetect multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(5)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP" /fastdetect multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(1)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP" /fastdetect multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(1)partition(2)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP" /fastdetect multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(1)partition(3)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP" /fastdetect multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(1)partition(4)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP" /fastdetect multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(1)partition(5)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP" /fastdetect multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(2)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP" /fastdetect multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(2)partition(2)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP" /fastdetect multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(2)partition(3)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP" /fastdetect multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(2)partition(4)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP" /fastdetect multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(2)partition(5)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP" /fastdetect
So what should I do? If I copy and paste everything over from the backup file, should I run msconfig again? And if so, should I reply 'No' every time it asks about the differing entries? How important is it to have the separate entries for the various partitions?
If you have a backup file, then copy the backup file itself, and rename it. The backup file in nearly all cases will be the same as what your old boot.ini was. A backup file will be superior to the recommended replacement. Running msconfig and allowing it to remove entries it doesn't like is fine as well.

Wife checked and the BOOT.INI is missing so what do I need to do now as it's not clear for those who have already booted back up?
If you were able to boot with no problems, you're fine. Chances are you are one of the unaffected: Vista users, Mac or Linux, people with windows on a different partition than eve, classic client only, or really damn lucky. Check yourself as boot.ini may be a hidden file. Easiest way is to use the command prompt, cd down to the C:\> and then type boot.ini and hit enter. That should open up a notepad file. If it doesn't and you don't fit the list of the unaffected, then follow the procedure to replace or rebuild boot.ini

Vista is immune. We are sure. Vista doesn't use a file called boot.ini
