There is only 2 reason (other than cost) to go with halo over snake. 1. Lock time, with a lower sig radius others will take longer to lock you. 2. Probing, with a lower sig radius you are less likely to be found by probes.
When it comes to getting hit less a snake set will ALWAYS in every possible situation work better. ---------------------------------------- A Guide to Scan Probing in Revelations |

Is it true if you are comparing AB ceptor with halo and MWD ceptor with snakes? I guess whne you need to escape bubbles MWD ceptor rocks, but in other situations?

You are comparing apples with pears. An AB ceptor with snakes will be better than a AB ceptor with halo if you want to avoid getting shot. Now if you want to compare an AB ceptor with snakes with an MWD ceptor with snakes that's a completely different discussion.
It's about the fact that snakes have higher built in bonus and that both work as a simple multiplier with the exact same effect on tracking calculations. ---------------------------------------- A Guide to Scan Probing in Revelations |

Originally by: Dubious Drewski Ok, I've double checked the math and you are perfectly correct (All he's doing is removing Pi from the equation, because it's multiplied to both sides anyway)
You seeing this Dreaded? Using Halos will apparently reduce dps from a battleship by 44%.(when going from a 400m sig radius to a 300m sig radius) That's significant!
Real world math != Ingame math. The to hit formula looks like this: Hit Chance = 0.5^((Transversal speed / (Range * Tracking) * ( Signature Resolution / Signature Radius)) ^ 2)
Reducing sig radius with 20% have the exact same effect on hit chance as increasing Speed by 20%.
But after some thinking I actually have come up with a scenario where Halo are better than Snake. If the person shooting at you is moving faster than you do, ie the larger part of the transversal velocity is because of him and not you then halo will have more effect on hit chance than snake.
The easiest example would be if someone has you double webbed and is orbiting you. Why anyone would do that to an interceptor is beyond me but there you have it, a scenario where Halo have more effect on hit chance than snake. ---------------------------------------- A Guide to Scan Probing in Revelations |

Originally by: Dubious Drewski [qAre you sure about this? If this were true, it means that turrets have an advantage over missiles:
If you fire a torp at a frigate that's standing still, the frigate will still only take partial damage because its 45m sig radius is so much smaller than the 400m explosion radius.
The whole reason turrets have the signature resolution stat is so they work identically to missiles when it comes to dealing dps to smaller targets. If what you say is true, then turrets are imbalanced.
I think someone needs to actually test this. Get someone in a cheap t1 frigate to sit still at a corp mate's optimal while he fires a few shots with a BS sized turret. Let's see for sure if this is how it works.
And where did our dreaded friend go, anyway?
Yes we are sure, yes it has been test over and over and over again. The reason turrets have sig res has nothing to do with missiles, if anything it's the other way around.
Back when turret tracking where rebalanced missiles had nothing similar to tracking, they always did full damage no matter the circumstances. It wasn't until much later (Cold War patch) when missile got the current system which tried to mimic some on the parts from turret tracking while still making them unique. ---------------------------------------- A Guide to Scan Probing in Revelations |
