If anyone can work out how to do this with an ati x1950 I will love them long time.
Seriously.
Long time.
No dolla.

Got it working, but only in Full screen, no luck with window mode :( However, with normal shadows, high bloom, and 8x AA, 8x AF IŠm getting 60fps in Station and around 30 outside Jita 4-4, but 60 when I there are no other ships in the background.
I have a 8800gtx superclocked, core 2 duo E6600, and 2 gigs of Ram, so I was hoping for a little more fps, but well....
Tip: After getting all the nHancer settings right (HDR&AA Oblivion compatibility, AA setting, etc), and after launching Eve, if the AA is still not working (you can notice at the edge of the planet, or the edge of the Eve logo while its moving) try turning HDR off ingame, and turning it back again, donŠt ask me why, but this got it running for me, for some reason.

IIRC, Nvidia has trouble just even attempting to do this on older-than-8xxx series cards because of hardware issues.
There's a reason why the current 8xxx cards still require another program to turn on HDR with AA/AF.
Not that its a bad thing, just saying...
BTW, zomg @ screens/vid. They look nearly like the trailer! -

Edited by: Mysdora on 07/12/2007 01:36:28 Overall there seems to be a nice improvement in image quality, but sadly you can't make MSAA work correctly with deferred shading under dx9. You can see the problem in those screenshots if you look at areas of heavy HDR effects - the antialiasing fails miserably.

As promised here's my settings in nHancer and how to make it work.
First you should have a nVidia 8xxx series card, higher the better ! :)
Second, you should set EVE to fullscreen, enable Premium Graphic Content, enable HDR, turn Bloom and Shadows to High. Cache set as high as memory usage will let you go.
* In the profiles window select Eve Online. Check the "Profile can be activated manually" option. On the right side under Settings make sure 'Profile' is checked.
-- Settings tab -- * Check the box for Anti-Aliasing, depending on your card I recommend starting with Multisampling and 8XQ for now. You can try different Multisample or Coverage Sample to compare framerate and graphics quality, I wasn't able to get any Supersampling modes to work though!
* Do not turn on the "Enhance in-game AA setting". Leave the rest of the boxes unchecked as well for now. You can go back later and try out Gamma correction or transparent AA if you like, these might make some improvements but also come at a performance hit.
* Check the box for Anisotropic Filtering and set it to 8X.
Leave the rest at default.
-- Optimizations tab --
* Select Texture Filtering, High Quality. You can also try High Quality but it doesn't seem to help the image quality and dropped my framerate a bit.
Leave the rest of the options unselected under this tab.
-- Compatibility tab --
* Enable Anti-Aliasing compatibility and select the Oblivion "(AA & HDR)" option
* Enable Force mip maps option, and choose Trilinear. Leave the rest of the options unchecked. under this tab.

Also a pro tip for you all, it's possible to quickly test different settings by toggling EVE from fullscreen to windowed and then back:
Alt-Tab out of EVE Change settings in nHancer Alt-Tab back to EVE Alt-Enter to swap to windowed mode Alt-Enter to swap to fullscreen mode.

What does the 'profile can be activated manually' option do? Do we have to actually activate the profile before we run EVE? How do I do that? _______________

To answer my own question: right click the task bar icon, go to profiles and activate EVE Online profile. But EVE will not run with this profile active. I've tried activating it before running EVE and it crashes as it loads the current station I'm in, right before the graphics would show up. I've tried starting EVE and then starting the profile and when I maximize EVE after that it crashes again. Help! _______________

Edited by: Darth Revanant on 07/12/2007 07:02:24 Answered my own question again from the other thread. Turns out it doesn't like Coverage Sample 16xQ. Gotta use 16x. Everything else is great!
Edit: I'm getting 120 fps with dual 8800GTX cards in SLi. _______________

I made nice screenshots of my EOS with the nHancer running and stuff Stargate hugging This is called profile in facial photographing ------- I usually spend some minutes writing a post, usually read it over, decide it doesn't really add anything useful to a conversation and I hit the cancel button. .....This time I didn't hit c |

Hmm what video card are you using? Might try some lower graphics settings to see if that makes it better? Is your system hitting swap maybe? Anything running in the background that could cause problems? Does it have these framerate drops even without AA enabled?

Thanks Aliza
I made the same changes to settings in nhancer as you described for my 8800GT
HERE is the result. Top of image is with HDR & Bloom Only, the bottom half of image is with HDR/Bloom + AA/AAF
The game looks nicer and still runs smooth!

So uh, why can't you just check some boxes in the graphics menu and get both AA and HDR at the same time? I don't know much about this sort of thing, so forgive my n00biness, but it seems weird you can't choose AA together with HDR in-game. Works like a charm in Crysis for example.

Same here! I can turn everything on in Catalyst and it's fine in game but the second you activate HDR all the AA disapears.
The old advanced multisampling options you used to be able to turn on with the prefs.ini aren't available anymore either.
According to other threads the x1950 pro should be capable of both so has anyone got any ideas for those of us with ATI cards?
Thanks in advance

It looks nicely antialiased, and I see everyone is happy you can get AA to work. But I fail to see how HDR looks better or more realistic than no HDR. I know what HDR is - at least in theory - but in EVE the difference bewteen HDR and no HDR is too subtle for me to notice and not worth the drop in FPS.
Am I the only one who thinks so?
Also, when you search for samples of high dynamic range rendering or photography, you usually find bright daylight scenes. This is where HDR is good at and where it is needed because of the large differences in brightness in parts of the image. This is also why most older games favoured night scenes and indoor scenes over daylight outdoor scenes (for example the whole storyline of Unreal I takes place during one night - I mention Unreal I because I tried to do outdoor maps with the editor years ago and had serious problems getting the lighting to look good). Space is dark, so you effectively have only indoor and night scenes in EVE. Maybe that's the problem. Correct me if I'm wrong.
(Maybe someone should make two videos - with HDR+AA and without HDR+AA - for comparison)

HDR is not the only 3D rendering technique which is quite useless in Eve Online - AF is even less relevant.
My piece of advice - turn on AA and forget about the other two, it's just a waste of GPU cycles... I'll start another thread on this.

Edited by: Icefall on 05/01/2008 13:20:48 Hi, Anybody got a working setup for SLI-cards? I've got a Dell XPS M1730 running Vista Ultimate with 2 x 256 Mb GeForce 8700M GT SLI-cards, 4 Gb ram and Intel Core 2 Extreme X7900 @ 2.8 GHz. Running EVE at 1920 x 1200, getting crap fps and with a lot of the options here I get green flickering across the upper half of the screen, obscuring everything. Selecting nvidias EVE-profile resolves this issue, and gives me decent fps, but AA is gone. Still testing out different options here with the nHancer-tool, but....if anybody have a working setup at this time, that would be much appreciated.
