most things described here sound like driver issues, and there is basically nothing CCP can do about that. EVE calls standardized DirectX calls for graphics, and while they maybe calling different combos of calls than other games, the calls should be supported. A fresh wipe of the OS and reinstall will prolly go along way for some here, who might have upgraded vid drivers dozens of times, and get some wierd old files sticking around.
If you are using a laptop, please try to get the omegadrivers to work...laptop suppliers drivers are the worst, way out of date. When i had my ati laptop, omegadrivers were the ONLY way to play eve.
As stated above, EVE uses standardized DX functions. What i THINK might be happening is one of the directx 9.0c dll files might be missing. Over the past two months, i had to manually download 3 of them for some of my games to work (bf 2142, CoH, and CoD4).
Check this site (http://www.toymaker.info/Games/html/d3dx_dlls.html) and see if you are missing any of these .dlls from your system32 folder. (I recommend getting the .dll's directly from microsoft, i used the site because it listed all the dx updates). See if that fixes the problem.

What do you do when your Toshiba Tecra A7 laptop WILL NOT LET YOU install any other drivers than the Toshiba ones, which are really getting old now...?

Edited by: Maren Kirsan on 12/12/2007 04:16:33 Again, I'm only trying to run the classic client. And this sure is getting old. Can I have some moderator or whatever browsing my thread and give me a fair reply?

which card? If its a NVIDIA, you can (usually) just use the NVIDIA drivers, and they work fine. For example, my friend had a NVIDIA 8700M, with really old drivers. The NVIDIA 8600 drivers (the 8700 was just an overclocked 8600, fyi) worked fine.
For ATI, try the omegadrivers and hope for the best...

Maren keep going bud, I am in exactly the same boat, doesn't it grip your sh*t when they say... 'ooh! we've broken another record, at 41K players...'
If they want some more 'ooh!' why not help us out?
