To whom it may concern at CCP,
I am making a request for compensation equal to 3 months free game time for those affected by what can only be called a monumental screw-up on your part. I am a professional photographer, and like many other professionals that play this game your actions put our valuable data at great risk. In my case, you actions bricked the raid array that is my photography archive. luckily I was able to rebuild the array, a process that took the better part of five hours of coding, but this does not mean that CCP is off the hook. These actions are simply unacceptable, and compensation will be exacted.
At no point did any of us give you permission to edit or delete system files necessary for the operation of our operating systems. Your gaff in issuing a console command of "delete /boot.ini" during the update process shows not only sloppy and negligent programing but also a fundamental lack of testing a deployment in all its forms prior to it going live on one of your servers. It has undermined the trust of the paying player community and will cause great damage to you public image if immediate action is not taken to make this situation right. Said actions MUST go far beyond simply offering a hotfix to those affected. I can not be the only person strongly thinking about canceling my account at the moment and the only reason I have not is because I want to see what actions you take to correct this problem.
Signed,

It took you 5 hours to move the automatic backup of your boot ini back to the root directory? That's pretty impressive. Too bad for your argument your whole array's file architecture was still completely in tact and no data was actually compromised. Even if it were nuked you CCP forgoes all liability in the EULA.

Well your daft for thinking a raid array will protect your data. Backing up on another source should of been simple if the images are that important. Yes CCP screwed up, but you take that risk by installing the software...

It are the general rules. You accept them, they are 100% usefull in court. Unless its something like:
EULA: To play this game you have to strip naked on nation telly. That will not work in court.
edit: im not saying all parts are usefull, but there are a lot of things you say 'yes' to before installing software, which is a normal thing. _________________________________________________ Breetime

Hmm, addressing your post to no-one, bad start.
Originally by: Scoze I am making a request for compensation equal to 3 months free game time for those affected by what can only be called a monumental screw-up on your part.
Completely arbitrary figure with no basis on the damage done.
Originally by: Scoze I am a professional photographer, and like many other professionals that play this game my own incompetence put my valuable data at great risk.
I fixed this for you. No data was put at risk by CCP.
Originally by: Scoze In my case, you actions bricked the raid array that is my photography archive. luckily I was able to rebuild the array
This is actually a contradiction, since 'bricked' means completely unrecoverable, i.e. as useful as an electronics device as a brick is. Nice work.
Originally by: Scoze and compensation will be exacted.
Ha ha, that'll be the day.
Originally by: Scoze At no point did any of us give you permission to edit or delete system files necessary for the operation of our operating systems.
You mean you didn't run the updater as an admin on your machine? I bet you did...
Originally by: Scoze Your gaff in issuing a console command of "delete /boot.ini" during the update process shows not only sloppy and negligent programing
It shows a one character typo.
Originally by: Scoze but also a fundamental lack of testing a deployment in all its forms prior to it going live on one of your servers.
They test the game. Not noticing that it can kill the OS sometimes is hardly a huge crime.
Originally by: Scoze It has undermined the trust of the paying player community and will cause great damage to you public image if immediate action is not taken to make this situation right.
Since as soon as they realised what was going on they were practically advertising on TV "we ****** up, here's how to fix it", they took great action and my confidence in them has been boosted by their prompt and honest handling of the issue. I won't speak for anyone else because, like you, I can't.

I'm thinking of canceling my last "log in to change skills account" over this purely because CCP are noobs for letting this happen (I wasn't even affected).
Seriously, the public is stupid, anyone who has released commercial code knows this. You cant let things like this slip through your coding procedures and your bug testing. YOU CAN NOT.

1) Your RAID config is flawed if its the same for boot/OS and your `important` data
2) 5 hours to copy over a corrupt boot.ini does not compute
3) You gave windows permision to do this and bestowed that upon the application.
4) You realy should dual boot - games and work are seperate - mix them at your own risk.
5) Education is never free - be it time or money. You know more now than you did before.
All that said it was a big bad mistake and you should adress this to CCP personaly and not vent on forums if you seriously want to have this looked at.
Forums <> class action <> small claims court. That said, I'd go with friendly complaint to them. Then go from there. Though, legaly they hold all the cards. Personaly you realy realy need to look at your system setup. I would never advocate having programs and main OS on same partition and data should be on its own disc's. Oh and the golden rule which I'm pretty sure you know and practice - backup dont ****up.
But in summary - you will only wind yourself up more adressing said issue here instead of a petition or direct complaint to CCP.

i my self also run a raid array, and I lost my boot.ini. I managed to fix it before rebooting.
If i did reboot, i would still be offline, because i dont have a floppy drive, and with out a floppy drive it is hard to install raid drivers so my windows cd would work.

I stopped reading right there. Your data was never at risk. Even if you weren't able to restore boot.ini file (which is a 3 minute job at the most) and had to reinstall windows from scratch, your data would still not be at risk (unless you are stupid enough to save stuff on desktop). And any "professional" would have backups of his work.
Bricked array? Just cause you stupidly decided to mess with your array, instead of fixing the boot.ini issue, doesn't make that CCP's fault. CCP's fault was deleting the boot.ini, which is an easily recoverable problem.
5 hours coding? on a RAID? I can guarantee you did not write a single line of code . Looks like you don't understand what coding is even
