DonŠt listen to the front page!
I have classic version, just updated the patch at 10:50-10:55 yesterday.
I have windows xp, service pack 2. And my computer failed to reboot last night.
At startup some system files are missing (not sure which).
Tried replacing boot.ini in failsafe mode but no to no avail.
SO be ware even if you think your safe (as i did) you might not be.

i think thats not EVEs fault.. because the bug was from classic to premium and got fixed 2 hours after release (or so)
if other system files are broken its something else wrong whit ur pc.
EVE bug only affected the BOOT.INI file... nothing else

If your correct itŠs a hell of a timing.
Since:
1. Only thing i installed etc, was eve-online patch. 2. Why didnŠt my comp die 2 days ago or 3 etc etc. 3. Why did it happen when people have been having troubles with eve-patch?
And i might have set up the "new" boot ini wrong i donŠt know since im not a computer expert.
Will try get my hands on a OS cd.

if you can get to safemode, go to your Windows/pss folder; the backup boot.ini is located there.

Although if they can get into safemode boot.ini must already have been there. -- (Battle hardened industrialist)

SO you have the Classic version, and the front page tells you it only affects the Classic to Premium patch, yet you fiddled around with your system files when you dont know what your doing?

Not True.
Since I did that in Safemode after my computer became borked after a restart. Do some reading comprehension ok?.

Just some info. In case you did indeed lose the boot.ini file you wouldn't be able to get in Safe mode also.
There is a reason you are not telling us, that made you restart your system.

you cant get into safemode if your boot.ini would be missing..
i think you did something else that isnt related to eve in any way.

Just to be 100% clear.
- The patch from classic to premium is the only one that had the issue.
- If you can boot at all, even into safemode, your boot.ini wasn't deleted.
Yes, it could be a coincidence. Out of thousands of players, that's bound to happen. :-(

restarted because i had just put punkbuster on my exception list in the firewall to be able to play bf2 without getting kicked by server.
Restarted to make sure it would load properly and to clear my memory (no expert but been told to do that on occasion)
And sure it could have borked the computer byt i fail to see how.
As i say, i find it strange i get issues this very day, and not some other day.
Hopefully i can resolve it whn i get my hands on a windows cd to run repairs.

You have said yourself you booted into Safe Mode. Thus your boot.ini was NOT deleted.
The eve bug DELETED boot.ini.
Does it sound like your issue ?

the ting is that i can only get into "normal" safe mode.
CanŠt load safe mode with network connection.
Because then i get error message telling me systemfiles are damaged or missing.
Boot.ini should be ok, (checked it and lines appear to be correct.
So something else is missing and system restore donŠt do ****.

There was talks about some dll gone missing, wasnŠt it? ANd some players say the have been able to boot without boot.ini..
BAsically the oly thing i know is that the only program i installed was the patch, added 2 programs to firewall exeption list and reboted, then comp donŠt start..
Usually most likley problem is last installed program donŠt you agree?.

So let me get this straight, you changed windows firewall settings and then it will let you boot into normal safemode but it wont let you boot into safemode with networking?
Am I the only one seeing a connection?
The fact that you are in safemode means this is nothing to do with the BOOT.INI. When people refer to the 'HAL.DLL' this is an error you get when your BOOT.INI is broken. It also happens when your 'HAL.DLL' is broken, thats nothing to do with EVE.
So to sum up, you broke something, its not to do with Eve, I would blame something you did in your network settings when fiddling with the firewall.
EDIT: Please remove your erraneous thread title.
