Originally by: Zacari What's wrong with you people? CCP didn't cause anyone to lose any meaningful data. There are/were pleanty of free paths you could have walked but you chose not to use your brain and took the 'easy' option of paying someone else.
Learn and move on.
That's of course if you were able to get to the Eve-online.com to see all these easy paths. I have a friend that assumed it was the new video drivers that screwed up his computer (never would have thought EVE did it) and spent a couple hours on the phone with Dell tech support. He didn't have access to find out what happened because ... oh yeah his computer would not boot.
I see a lot of people imply that being a computer wizard is a prerequisite to play EVE. Almost saying "it is not CCP's fault it's your fault for not knowing how to fix it." I think the only reason this did not affect a larger majority of the user base is because they were able to stop the downloads of the batch path relatively quick.
I think some form of compensation from CCP to say "We're sorry" is a good idea. This is a major screw up. Not just in the EVE universe but I suspect will have a lasting memory in the gaming market just as some of the past scams have become gaming lore. EVE online will now be remember for having an expansion that made peoples computers unbootable.

By buying in Dollars, we half our subscription payments, last I checked its $2.02 to each pound, and CCP charge the same number of ú as $

Then they would most likely charge me extra because i have a raid setup (nothing fancy, just a striped one) which most likely is the cause for my crash. Instead i wasted 2 hours of my very expensive and precious time doing it myself, running a lengthy repair instead of full install.
Would you think that it would be fair, if it happened to you?
If you were not a tech savvy guy as you say, you would take the pc to the repair shop and say it doesn't work anymore. The store technician would take the pc boot it to see what is wrong, see the fault code and say aha boot.ini file missing. Copy a boot.ini file to C:\ and thing will start working again. Next day call you and say that they were forced to format the drive (after managing with some lengthy rescue process to save all your data) and re install OS thus charging you 150$. While at the same time laughing behind your back.

Originally by: Kirjava Incidentaly, can you come up with an arguement in which the EULA actualy stops legal procedures in the EU with people (who yes do have work and gaming PCs at the same time) who did lose money due to this, either by not having internet access to see everyone on the forums telling fixes but instead got it repaired by someone because they couldn't get inside to fix it?
I think section 12-17 of the EULA pretty much covers that. Basically, the contract people signs (the EULA) says that they do everything completely at their own risk, and that any disputes are under Icelandic laws.

Giving everybody 1 month of Eve free is not going to fix those ppl their HDD's, now is it? Let them use their money in good ways so then can help the entire playerbase, and not only those affected by this unusual and extremely rare and weird bug. I has spoken.

Is this a valid arguement in EU and British law though, that's the qustion, I know roughly most of the EULA but on the whole most companies have these as bluffs to say "don't sue us", is CCP's the one that breaks this trend then?... Rate my charecters please, updated so need 3 more, 2M isk for each good review |

Originally by: General M0BIUS I feel it would be good PR for CCP to offer something substantial to its subscribers affected or not by this issue.
We have set up phone support for users directly affected by the boot.ini issue and dealing with them on a one-on-one basis. At this point, we do not see a need to compensate users unaffected by the issue with a free month of game time.
