This error has been happening even before last big patch. It started with me buying new PC configuration which is atm: Core 2 Duo @ 2.66 GHz 2 GM RAM NVIDIA 8800 GTS

no vpu recover so far. and stable temp about 80-82ŚC while docked with both accounts.
I think thats it. Somehow the gpu is going crazy when docked (doing this with 2 accounts occurs the crash). Anyway, the game was stable and playable w/o any gpu-crashes. I've tested it the whole evening yesterday. Once i had a ccpexe.exe file error but thats another problem i guess.
To everyone who has this kind of crash with his gpu (temp): switch the "load station environment" to off. And plz write here if it works on your pc too.
It has a lot to commend it while most of you had the crash while one account was docked.

Yep i get this also, apart from another issue i've posted about. I often run 3 clients and ventrilo but every so often everything goes blank, i can hear stuff but cant talk on vent so i guess my mouse is locked up also....
Q6600, 4 GIG RAM, 8800GTX, 2 HDD's, on an ABIT P35 pro board.
I Don't think the GFX Card is overheating although i've not tested it... the cpu gets warm but it's nothing tbh

Edited by: Abiel Mordecai on 21/01/2008 19:31:06 I'll join this sorry tale of woe... I'm running a Geforce 6600 and I crash at random intervals. I feel like I'm at alcoholics anonymous. Anyway, the classic client will run for a couple of hours fine and then just crash randomly. The premium content runs fine for just a few minutes (framerate isn't great though) and then it just crashes. Doesn't matter what I'm doing, in station, in space, whatever, my PC just freezes. This happens about 90% of the time when I close the client too. I crash as my PC tries to redraw my windows desktop. It happens less often if I change my Windows desktop background to "none" instead of an image. I'm running XP 32bit SP2. I also crash if I alt-tab or try to run eve in a window mode. The crashing happens in both clients. I know it's my graphics card that's the problem, and it's not likely to be overheating because I run other demanding games fine for hours. I'm running latest drivers, sound is off (Soundblaster Audigy 2) and I've scoured the forums for every solution I can find. This could be a problem with Geforce cards and DirectX. GeForce cards run fine with OpenGL programs, but when it comes to DirectX they aren't so hot. I've seen on various forums a similar problem to mine with GeForce cards, but does this mean we should moan at Nvidia or CCP?
*Edit* Full system specs: AMD Athalon XP 2400+ 2Ghz 1.5GB Ram GeForce 6600 Soundblaster Audigy 2 All Drivers are up to date 32Bit XP Home Edition SP2 I've done cache clearing and full client reinstall. |

I have same problem with Radeon x800 AGP
I have tried different driver versions, that doesn't seem to effect it much. I tried reducing graphics settings with the ATI CCC, it usually doesn't help.
The last thing I did seemed to help a lot tho, at least the graphics card crashes reduced dramatically: I changed AGP speed setting from 8x to 4x

This is exactly the crash i had. Do you play with the new content? Check where the crash occurs (while docked at least with 1 account?). If so, try to swtich the "load station enviroment" to off. Just give it a try.
Its kinda unbeliveable but while docked most cards went hot like mostly everyone mentioned above on page 1 (my went up to 92ŚC - if i had the new content active). So its overheating.

See this thread I just put up concerning your issue: System Overheats and Unthrottled Graphics
All I can recommend is turn off your station environments and maybe add more fans to your system.

Same problem here. Running Vista 64 with a HD3870 VC. Newest drivers released Jan 16 have not fixed the problem. I doubt heat is the issue as crashing is occuring at around 53 degrees. Other games I have played do not crash at temps above 65. Not sure that this is addign anything new to teh thread but though maybe CCP is waiting for some critical mass.

same issue. AMD 64 4000 ATI X1600 Pro 512MB 1GB Ram XP Pro SP2 I have tried both ATI and Omega drivers and both have the same issue. It's not heat because I monitor my CPU and graphics card heat constantly. If I'm using the ATI drivers the recovery program will often bring me back after a minute of black. This was happening so much I thought my card was dying but it's only in Eve. I can play for hours without an issue and then bam I'll get it 3 times in a row in a span of 30 minutes. I've lost a few ships and pods from this. o_O |

Bump.
There's clearly an issue with CCP's coding / graphics engine / compatibility with drivers. Either way it's a CCP issue. Can we at least have some kind of "sry guys we're working on it" reply in one of those sexy blue-boxed replies.

Lol.
Bugreported this nonsense.
Bugreporter said "please provide us with a log server log".
Which is obviously impossible as their LogServer program only saves the log if you CTD, not if the machine needs a reset.
Sigh.

Got this error after ANOTHER freeze
The driver ati2dvag for the display device \Device\Video1 got stuck in an infinite loop. This usually indicates a problem with the device itself or with the device driver programming the hardware incorrectly. Please check with your hardware device vendor for any driver updates.
Check ur CCC logs for similar guys

I can't say I've ever had this problem in EVE (been only playing for a week though, but longs sessions a day), but I had this problem playing World of Warcraft which is, I think, more demanding (hardware-wise) than premium EVE. My setup:
Intel QuadCore 2.4 MHz BFG Nvidia 8800GTX OC2 2Gb RAM [DDR3 1066 MHZ] Samsung HD321KJ [320 Gb; 7200 RpM; SATA2] Realtek Soundcard [Asus P5E3 onboard device] Corsair HX Series Modular Power Supply 620W
Windows XP PRO, SP2
The reason for why you get a black screen is (as earlier explained) most probably the fact that your GPU is overheating but can also be that your power supply ain't good enough.
ADVICE: try to play the game with an open MIDI Tower (i.e the big box where all your hardware is) and see if it helps.
If it helps, it means that you have bad air streaming in your tower and that you need to re-configure your internal fans. Also try to get a monitor (software) that logs temperature of your hardware. There you can see at what temprature your screen went black.
Before starting to replace hardware, always try re-installing the software and drivers first.

I too have been having a lot of graphics problems since the Trinity patch. Lots of flickering, rebooting. Now today I went to login and had my computer lockup. And now it doesn't even want to boot. Would it be whining to say I think EVE has ate my computer? :)
Ok, maybe I just have a hardware failure unrelated to EVE. But it was the last thing I tried to run, so it gets blamed ;)

Yep i'm using new content, it's really random tbh but usually when i'm kicking about looking for a fight, see sod's law My Rig runs quite a few fans and at most the cpu is getting to 51deg. Just recently i changed to cache size settings to non and thats sorted out my random freezing/eve not responding out. Will let you know what exactly is happening when i get my next GFX crash.

Goodie gumdrops. Graphics card turned off whilst i was surfing the internets last night! wtf.
Think im gonna boot and nuke, format, re-install wind-fail, download a fresh eve, download latest mobo drivers, sound drivers, graphics card etc
See what happens...
Should I / Can I create a restore point just after installation so I can roll back to these settings rather than having to reformat again if the problem persists?
Thanks!

Post Trinity update, same problem here. Two fresh installs of Eve, always fresh ATI catalyst/graphics drivers. WoW and Call of Duty 4 don't crash, only Eve. Play for 1 to 3 hours and graphics completely stop, i.e. dell monitor doesn't get a signal from the video card. Tested on a machine that has a PCI-E ATI x1950 Pro card, and I got bands of green thick slashes through my screen and the polygons were white flashing. Now (within last 2 weeks) my machine reboots on its own. When it comes up, it says "you system has recovered from a serious error", no ****. AMD 3500 processor, ATI x1950 Pro AGP, 4GB Ram, Gigabyte mother board. It's irratating me now.

Awesome.
Just spend 4 hours formatting and reinstalling XP.
Only used the latest drivers on all my hardware.
20 mins in, eve freezes, graphics card turns off.
Cheers.
Time for a break from eve i think.

Then the problem is not EVE, its either your hardware, setup, drivers or all the above.
Eve brings out the worst in people and hardware.
If you really want to identify the problem, download some utilities that test your hardware and reports on temperature. Nvidia has ntune. There are others. Try it, stress your card.
Trust me. I helped a buddy setup a Quad core, running 8800GT on Vista and he gets 100FPS or better with max settings on Premium and EVE is as stable as EVE can be.
p.s. I am not suggesting EVE doesn't have problems, but anymore then most games.
Good luck with that

I had this problem with graphics card crashing several times a day when playing EVE.
Then after I changed AGP speed setting from 8x to 4x, not a single crash, for many days, with EVE running overnight.
It seems like the most sure way of solving this problem by the user is to throttle your graphics card, by any means possible. The proper solution is of course to make CCP fix their 3D engine so it doesn't overload graphics cards.
