Hey Guys
Problem I have is that I will be playing Eve and suddenly the screen will freeze. Then it will go black and go into standby mode as if there was no signal coming from the PC to the monitor. If I try and do anything else the computer then locks up and I have to reboot the machine.
Now I have updated drivers, DirectX and updated windows and still no joy.
Just wondering if anyone else had any ideas? Strangely enough it only seems to happen while playing Eve. I can play games like Crysis, Total War 2 and other graphic heavy games and they seem to work fine.
I am running an AMD 64 Athalon x2 Asus M2V Motherboard Nvidia Geforce 8600 Gt 512mb

I have the exact same issue on my ATI AIW x800. I thought it might have been overheating but it never gets past 60c and I have run HL2 with full settings on for hours, as well as ATT 3d test which really maxes it out, and several other games. Issue only occurs with eve online.
I also though it might have been my CPU over clock, but I turned it off and it had no impact on the issue. It really makes the game unplayable.
I haven't ran memory tests yet but really if none of my other games have the same issue I have to assume it is an EvE issue. No change in how ofter the issue occurs since the new expansion either.

Edited by: Icarnus on 08/12/2007 17:01:38 I'm having the same issue, I'll be flying around then it'll just freeze, can't quit, can't do anything but reset my machine. This has happened several times now, the screen doesn't always go black for me though. Sometimes It'll stay on and kinda stutter. Never though have I been able to exit to windows or close eve, computer just freezes up.
As the others have said too only happens when playing Eve.

You guys should post the full specs of your machines, and what OS you use. Then we can see if there are any other similarities. I remember when we first started looking into the now know RealTek/975x issue many thought there were other reasons to it first.

Since I turned off premium content this has been happening to me. I'm ok in a station, but have trouble outside. The screen eventually stops, there's the windows 'beep' when you hit a button, then nothing, then the screen goes black. Back to the premium content I guess. ATI x1600 for laptops here.

So far, Trinity is a show-stopper for me. I can't run more than one or two Eve windows with the "Premium" graphics and have had the system fail running as few as three with "classic" graphics. Before the current graphic card update the failure was a visible shudder in one ore more windows, then an hourglass mouse pointer and inability to do anything in any window or to bring up Task Manager, requiring a forced power down of the PC to get out of it. Since upgrading the graphics card I can get out of this without powering down, but it happens immediately upon starting the nth Eve window and disables the entire system. Sound, of course, continues playing as if nothing bad had happened.
Before Trinity I could run up to seven Eve windows with a 7600 GT card. I spent $300 to upgrade to an 8800 GT card with 512 MB after the Trinity problems. This is better, but still a no-go for multiples. Today I was escorting a freighter, total of four Eve windows, "classic" graphics, and each one froze for 3-4 seconds fairly frequently. I could see the freeze cycling through all four windows in turn. This was the original problem I had a PC and 3 or 4 graphics cards ago that got me to try a non-ATI card. I've also had the white-out-in-space problem, not seen here in a very long time. The window affected by whiteout has normal fps in station but goes in the crapper upon undocking.
Dell Precision 590 with a x16 PCI Express slot for graphic adapter One 3.0GHz Intel 5160 Dual Core, 1333 MHz FSB 4 GB 667 MHz memory EGA 8800 GT graphics card with 512 MB, "superclocked" 2 20" Dell 2007FP LCD displays, DVI 4 SCSI disk drives on 80 MB/sec SCSI HBA

If your comp completley shuts down, and no activity is coming from your HD, you are overheating.
If you have a NVIDIA card, use NVMoniter and log your temps while playing (it should capture CPU/GFX temps), just to make sure. If you have an ATI card, use ATItool to do the same thing.
High end GFX cards own comps without vented side panels; i've battled overheating for over a year with a 6800; to run my 8600 i had to remove my side panel and put a turbofan next to my case.

I also have been experiencing the graphics card freeze problem (but for past 3 months!). Have to do a system reset to fix it, but it reoccurs after a little time in Eve. Not experienced it with other games at all. I tried turning off the station environment, which makes the time to freezing slightly longer. Before the Trinity expansion, no freezing ever in space. Now I freeze anywhere (pain when doing combat!) and the monitor displays the 'no signal' massage! I'm running the ATI x800 card (256 mb ram) on an AMD 64 2 processor, 2048 RAM, asus motherboard (no onboard graphics).
I was wondering if it was a conflict between the ati card and some resident file from the Nvidia board, but see some players have the problem when using Nvidia crads also! Ari

It is not an overheating issue for me as my temp maxes out at 71c using ATT 3D Renderer and my card can run stable like that for hours. I also ran a CPU stability test for 3 hours with no issues. Again this issue occurs ONLY while playing EVE, no change since Trinity; which i was hoping would fix it.

I'll join you guys.
My problem started a few days ago, like the 8th or 9th Dec. I have a X1950Pro, and the temp while running EVE is 57-58 C. Now, my monitor goes in standby after a few minutes idle in a station. I had no problems before that weekend, neither with Trinity, or Rev II. I used the upgrade to Trinity, so now I downloaded the full client install tonight, and will try to reinstall the client when I get back from work.

It seems if I run it in window mode at a low resolution, it doesn't crash. I have 22" widescreen, to fullscreen is 1680x1050, I tested the lower resolutions one by one, and at 1360x768, it doesn't crash anymore. The temp is 56 C as I'm writing this. I don't really know what it means, but I thought I'd mention it

Same thing here. My setup is : Opteron 146, 2x 512mb DDR400 PQI, DFI LP NF-4 Ultra, X700 Pro GeCube, 500W SmatPower II Antec Powersource, Dell P1110 21' monitor. My drivers are 6.4 for ATI - 7.11 gives me that crap error where i need to edit my registers, 6.37 for NF4, 3.65 for Realtek. OS is XP Pro SP2 with .Net Framework II installed. Before this i had a 8600 GT - what a piece of crap, i had the video stutter bug with it + the huge number of bugs when playing anything 3d - apparently many 8600 users have it. Nothing overclocked, everything running at normal. I would just completely blank screen while playing EVE, and need to do a restart - it is just great for my HDD data corruption. When running 2 accounts, it would sometimes start flickering and become irresponsive. I play in Window mode, game resolution at 1280x960 and monitor at 1600x1200. Could be a coincidence but that usually happens when my sound is usually very ... active. Like watching a movie or having eve sound turned on. I have been running for a couple of hours with 2 accounts, and no problems but still have the black screeen with just 1.

I got the same issue.. After the patch, playing EVE is a roulette wheel. It'll lock up the video card and my monitors go on standby.
Reboot, things work for a bit and crash while playin' EVE again.
This also happens on WoW and FFXI as well... and NEVER happened until this patch hit.
Any help is appreciated

I have had the same issue last night. First thing I notice in my mouse freezes up, then the rest of the sim. Had to re-boot twice. Only happens on this character, not my main. Not sure what's going on.
I get errors on game exit and can't log in with the classic mode only. Had to install premium, then run in classic.

Suddenly had the same problem today after a number of days of being okay. Have a fairly old system with a 9800pro and drivers from 2006 as found the ati drivers were dire to install successfully. Tried accepting the driver update from MS update and then just got black screens on startup so had to reinstall the old drivers and tried uninstalling eve , downloading the full client and then reinstalling and still locked up. So went into display settings and changed the 32 bit z buffer with 8 bit stencil (don't remember as an option) to 24 bit buffer and seems okay now. Res still the same at 1280x1024. Also changed colour depth from 24 bit to 24 bit with 8 bit alpha and if you hover the mouse over it it tells you that was the original target settings when created. Also the interval to default rather than immediate. Not sure what affect this has on the system mind. Have now updated from 6.4 drivers to 7.4 drivers and still seems okay Plus as am getting an X1950 pro agp tomorrow will no doubt have further adventures :(

Already have 24 bit with 8 bit alpha, but will try to lower the Depth/stencil format option to 24, and also change the Preset Interval when I get home from work. I'm starting to get really tired of this now I wanna play EVE again!

So, now it seems to be running stable. At least no crashing the last hour, and before it would only last a minute or two.
What I did, was install the premium client, and then disable the premium content. I tried using the classic client but that doesn't work, it has to be the premium. I'm also using the WarCat 7.4 ATI driver, but I don't know if it matters.
A little dissapointed that I can't see the new shiny ships, but maybe it'll work when I get my next gfx card. Going for NVidia next time for sure ;)

Heh, if you want to hear horror stories about nVidia, look up "stutter 8600GT" on google, or check their forums for the 5-6 months old thread about driver incompatibilities + cards overheating at 50-60 degrees.
I'm gonna try the premium content too, but when i get my 8600GT back, i doubt it will let me install with a X700 Pro.

I did not think I'd be ever saying this - but thank god for Vista...
I run 2 windowed clients across 2 monitors - and never previously had an issue doing so. Since the update I have had regular system freezes. The screens go blank and give "no signal" errors, the PC thrashes for 10 seconds, the screens then comes back and vista indicates the graphics driver had halted and was successfully restarted. Both EVE clients sit at "not responding" for another 10 to 20 seconds, then they start working again.
On an XP system I would be rebooting every time that happens.
I've recently changed one client to run in classic mode, and dropped some of the effects it is showing to see if I can improve things, but haven't seen anything definitive. So far the biggest improvement was gained by taking the side off my case and turning my study into a fridge when I play EVE. While graphic card heat appears to be playing some part in the crashes - I run a pretty well setup and ventalated case that has never had an issue with heat previously. (Right now most of my temps are below 40 degrees.)
These issues only happen while running the new EVE clients. It is a little hard to enjoy the new graphics when you spend most of your time wondering when the next crash will be coming...

Well, just found out that the problem ain't two EVE clients, it's EVE client running with ANY other major 3D application. Just started EVE whilst running Horizons (game), something I did always on old client and old system, and voila: flickering graphics, followed by complete lockdown...
And no, no temperature issues - I was alt tabbing between Oblivion and Lightwave 3D just before...

I've been getting this on and off for months.
Sometimes a "display driver stopped" message, sometimes just a complete lockup.
Sometimes graphic corruption appears, sometimes not.
It occured on XP and now on Vista.
I've been playing oblivion, COD4 and Crysis with no problems.
Using ATI tool to keep the temp below 70 C doesnt help, reinstalling display drivers doesnt help, reinstalling EVE might work for a while, then the problem is back.
Turning sound off didnt help either.
I'm going to try reinstalling eve and my graphics drivers from scratch again.

OK, unistalled graphics drivers, ran DriverCleaner, uninstalled eve, deleted cache files.
Fresh install of ati drivers 7.11, fresh full intall of eve...
And the problem is even worse! "Display driver stopped responding", or just complete lock-up.
There is definately something weird in the EVE graphics engine which is stressing the system far more than, say Crysis or COD4. Using standard CCC fan speeds, EVE overheats the card, causing glitches/artifacts at around 85 deg C. COD4 or Crysis dont do this, only EVE.
using ATI tool to keep the temp at 70 C stops the graphics glitches, but doesnt help with the crashes.
There are many other posts about this king of graphic bug, it seems to be a long running problen with eve, but not able to be solved by CCP.

Hello
i have the same problem. I'm using a ati mobility radeon x700 pcie-card 256mb VRAM. Sometimes it works well, sometimes eve crashes and screen freeze. The Problem is that everthing stops and i must reboot. Today i had a crash with blue screen, which adviced me to change my graphic card. Every other game is running with no problem, even new games are stable. I reinstalled everything, new client, new os etc. problem won't be solved. EvE is not running stable for me after Trinity patch.
i wrote a petition about this issue and after cleaning cache folders the problem still happen. Then i was swtiched to the hardware section where i got no answer right now.
Some info: i'm using an acer laptop and playing on classic client.
i would be thankfull of every info i can get to change that!

It has happened in fullscreen, windowed mode, 1024 res, 1280 res, 16bit, 24bit, 24bit + 8, single, dual account. uninstalled ati tray tools and catalyst centre, reinstalled catalyst, it still happens. happens with eve voice turned on and turned off. happens only in eve and after trinity.
sometimes just mild flickers, sometimes draws millions of colourful lines on the screen (seems to me like edges of polygons or something) sometimes the VPU recover helps, sometimes the screen just freezes for some minutes and then resets. sometimes you can play for hours, sometimes for few minutes. usually it will all go black and needs to be rebooted. When the black thing happens, some random squeeky sounds start coming from the speakers. + next time i log in, some of the settings are reset, some are not. for example sometimes the white lady turns up and wants to help me, sometimes it adds the consellation chat window, sometimes the menu on the right isnt minimized etc. sometimes all of them happen, sometimes only some or 1 of them

For the record, my 8600 is running fine. Thats why i only buy from XFX; free replacements for life. BFGTech isn't too bad, EVGA has caused me nothing but problems, and no other vendor is worth considering.
As for possible overheating: the issues you are describing sound like overheating, but i'm not convinced thats the cause. For the record, most new GFX cards will hit the mid 80's for temps. CPU's are fine as long as they remain under 70.

I've given upon this now. I can't make it run stable. sometimes I can play for hours, and sometimes only a few minutes. I had to disable station enviroment too, cuz it started crashing while docked. I'll get a 8800GT after new years, and if that doesn't help, I might just have to cancel my subscription until the problem gets fixed. no use paying for a game I can't play, is there....

Edited by: Adriano Contra on 22/12/2007 13:37:49 Huh, it seems, this is a real plague.
My system config:
AMD Athlon 64 X2 5600+ processor Gigabyte M59SLI-S5 motherboard ATI HD 2900 XT video 2 GB ram 2 Seagate ST3320620AS 320GB hdd running Windows XP Pro SP2
Well, yesterday, luckily, not during combat, my screen suddenly went black, as if video card would have turned down. I could still hear music from winamp so my first idea was "omfg, EVE killed my video card".
I rebooted, but no WinXP screen, i got only reboot loop. My next idea - my hdd is dead.
I used WinXP install disk, went to recovery console and fixed C: partition with chkdsk, becouse somehow C: was unreadable. I thougt "phew, its just my hdd".
Ok, now WinXP started normaly, i checked this and that and launched EVE. I see login screen for some 2 seconds and then my screen turns black. Surprise surprise.
Ok, i restart, this time WinXP boots normaly, im going right to this forum. I readed that sticky about black screen after splash screen, doing solution nr 1.
Nope, not working. Restart.
Trying solution nr 2.
Nope, not working. Doing extensive reading. Someone mentioned ATI driver problems.
Mkey, downloaded latest drivers, Catalyst 7.12, released only in 20th december.
Nope, not working.
Ok, last posibility - i start to download fresh EVE premium client and went to Samael concert.
Came back home today, wiped old EVE from my PC. Installed new EVE client.
Guess what - its still not working - im still getting black screen of death.
So, now im here, in this forum, hoping, someone will read this and maybe even help out.
And yes, i play other games on maximal settings without any problems.

Hell, im unable to play EVE but CCP still gets money from me. I would like to get some compensation for this, even my ISP reduces payment, if i get no net becouse of theyr fault. And here i see CCP fault, that they release unready product on market, full with bugs and still takes money from us.
CCP, i would like to get some answers here.

CCP C'mon guys what are we to do about this?? Its been quite a while without a fix.....needless to say its 2 day before christmas and were dying here. I start the client and usually within 15-20 seconds I'll go black screen and then standby mode/restart. I have skills to change and things to take out of the oven. Lets get on this guys. My System stats are shown below.

At first I thought it was NVidia related, now I notice different cards have similar problems. I'm not happy with that; it probly means this is not very common behaviour, so no quick answer, I guess. What's a few disgruntled subscribers on 200000+?

Based on the pics a few posts above, i have to finger overheating, once again. Use either ATITool or NVIDIA Moniter and log your temps while playing, then post them here.
At the very least, if someone would post your temps at time of crash, we could eliminate one of the potential causes...
Some of you might say "crisis doesn't overheat", but most other games have "loading screens" where no rendering occurs, EVE does not. Games like EVE would overheat long before games like Crisis. GFX cards cool fast nowadays (i can get from 85 degrees to 65 in under a minute when I alt-tab to desktop), so any type of break can hide overheating graphics.
Again, my 8600 GT runs fine, so i know its not a problem with that card or drivers. Can't say anything about the junk ATI makes though...

Edited by: FreeHansje on 23/12/2007 10:43:25 I don't know if overheating is the problem. This morning I started my pc & EVE, and immediately when I started leaving the station my screen went haywire again. I also noticed that the problem occurs specifically at 2 situations:
- When choosing a character to play with and I go in-game. - When leaving the station during the leaving-sequence.
But what do I know, I'm not very technical. On this heating issue: you mention a Nvidia temp meter. Where is it? I have Nvidia 6800 sumtin. Do I have it on-board somewhere? I have latest drivers and such. Is it a separate downloadable tool?
EDIT: Found a way to read temp by changing the BIOS. I'm not very comfortable doing that. You mentioned lowering the temp with ALT-TAB. Is this a hardware thingy or a software thingy? Would this be possible to do with GeForce 6800? ----- FreeHansje

Had the same issues on my old HP notebook. Used to play with classic client and did so after trinity patch too. Played the first 3 hours without problems, then every 10 mins the whole notebook crashed.
I removed Eve completely from my notebook, removed the Eve Folder in "My Documents" removed the CCP Folder in "Application Settings" Installed latest "Catalyst Driver" installed "PC Wizard" to monitor my system temperature and reinstalled Eve with classic client
Since this, I had no system fault of any kind. Except some disconnects, but they are fairly normal.

I nothing the same experience with AMD/ATI HD2600 graphics card on my iMac 24inch, using windows XP and premium content.
For me it seems to happen near jumpbridges mostly. Either when I make a jump, or when someone uses the jumpbridge I am at. Screen all black; sometimes background music keeps playing, but most of the times it freezes completely. GPU temps stay below 70 C for sure, and all the rest like CPU, mem, etc doesn't even raise above 50-60 C.
When I run EVE in OS X (no premium content yet) this problem doesn't seem to popup, but then again, the OS X client has it own problems, like constant errors on the soundcards and zillions CTDs a day....
About the sugguested temp problems. When I run EVE either in Windows XP or Mac OS X, the GPU temp never goes over 70 C. But in Mac OSX I have NO screenlockups at all, so it sounds very plausible to me this has to do with temp of the GPU chips really.
Anyhow, this is indeed a big problem on CCPs side, since all other games, graphic apps, and such, I run on either Mac OSX or Windows don't give me problems @ all.
So CCP. I already know your VERY unfriendly customer support policies, and even worse, GMs plainly lying about the so called serverlogs. But this is a serious problem that you can't just ignore. All the people around here are paying customers, all have their customer rights. And you seem to keep ignoring problems. I don't see ANY response, not even a single excuse, which makes sense, since CCP want the problem to shift to other suppliers, like the graphic card suppliers and such.
So CCP. You promissed me already a period of free months which I NEVER got, so what's it your ball play this time? I guess just delete this post.....

when i try and run 2 clients i get this issue.
monitor goes into standby , vpu recover kicks in and tries to save the day.
usually the first time vpu recover resolves it but within mins it will go again and then next time it is a full mouse freeze and reset button time.
also when vpu recover is working i can still hear ts through my headset.
i have tried this with and without sound.
the problem is not overheating as it happens way too fast the problem is the drivers are crashing (hence vpu recover trying to act like superman)
i think ccp should be able to recreate this problem fairly easily......
i will try altering the graphics setting to see if i can find a happy balance.
my pc is 100% stable and only crashes when playing eve not crysis or COD4 and ONLY when i try and dual account (never since premium content on 1 client)
dual core e2180 2 x 2ghz windows xp pro sp2 with recent updates omega latest ati drivers (tried with offical ati drivers same issue) ati x1950 pro 2gb ddr 6400
also i have recently changed the motherboard, power supply , cpu and memory and i had the issue before and after.
and just to add if it helps my pc is 100% spyware/virus free all drivers are latest and all updates done.My system is overclocked but totally stable.
please have a look ccp

absolute crock of ****e is this.
grafix device just shuts down. monitor blacks out and forces windows to reeboot.
happens with just 1 client runing. makes it more likely if i have 2 clients running. only observations so far are that running in fullscreen increases the frequency of the crash. regardless of in game grafix settings.
running client in wondows mode or both in windows mode with all in game grafix set to absolute min to reduce load helps but it still happens.
C'MON ccp. i just lost my 3rd ship because of this. i havn't petitioned the first two but now its getting stale very quickly.
its definatly the grafix interface that hits im sure if i ad vista on i would be recieving the display adapter has stopped responding msg.
temps are all low. card is a ATI x1950pro OS IS XP SP3. drivers are all latest. done the reinstalling thing with everything . dont waste your time people it doesnt fix it. the problem seems to lie within the game programming imo.

Reported this as a bug, tried installing the latet directX (nov2007) as the dev said, with no results.
Cant get a logserver dump because the PC locks up totally, so cant save the workspace.
Crashed 4 times yesterday trying to do mordus headhunters lev 4, eventually quit the mission and scanned down my surviving Ogre II's :)
I've made a summary of the situation and specs so I can cut/paste.
------------------------------ Problem:
Eve client fails, sometimes a "Display driver stopped" message, more often a complete lockup with black or grey screen, requiring a hard reset.
Happens: Anytime, has happened in station, but more often in complex mission combat with lots of NPC's and effects going off.
Attempted fixes which have not worked:
Sound disabled. cache cleared. client reinstalled. Display drivers removed/reinstalled. Latest DirectX installed. *suggested by dev.
Possible diagnostic factors.
GPU temp (Eve seems to overload the graphics hardware, causing massive temps, even on 100% fan I cannot keep my GPU temp < 70 DegC). Scene complexity (Tends to happen more in situations with lots of ships/effects, like mordus headhunters 4). Server load? (not proven, but I *seem* to have more crashes when 30000 + on the server). Fan speed changing? (not sure but I have noticed that the eve client sometimes hesitates when the fan speed changes, maybe related).

I had this exact same problem on a new system build.
AMD X2 6400+ ASUS M2N32 WS Professional 4GB DDR2 Raptor 150GB 2x BFG 8800GT OC in SLi
Possible fix :- Ok i tried everything to stop black screens / random crashes , make sure you have all known windows updates/patches first. 2nd i had DirectX 9.0c SDK installed so i removed and installed 9.0c. 3rd i ripped out all drivers for Nvidia, to do this properly boot to safe mode and run driver cleaner, reboot install the correct version of Nvidia drivers, reboot again. 4th dont go into Sli at first leave this untill later when you know eve will work. 5th remove eve and all related eve files, you can do this in safe mode aswell if you want to be 100% sure of its removal. Reboot and defrag. 6th double check everything and download eve into a new location, install eve, reboot defrag. 7th boot up and start eve, dont muck around with any settings to start if it works change the settings for graphics one at a time restarting eve after each setting change. 8th if everything is stable go into Sli again leave standard settings at the start. Btw this is a stepping process if at any stage something doesnt work you should be able to narrow down why it doesnt work
Eve now looks damn sexy with everything set to max, good FPS aswell hope this helps a few people.

I had the same problem as the OP a few months ago. I built an interim machine with an Athlon X2 but kept my Sapphire AGP Radeon x1950 Pro. When playing both the Crysis demo and Eve, the screen would just freeze then send the monitor into standby. Although throughout all of this I could still hear music and sound effects from the game(s). I thought it was the crappy VIA chipset on the motherboard that was incompatible with the GFX card, so I bought a PCI-E motherboard and a cheap Radeon PCI-E x1950 Pro. After the upgrade the issues still persisted but were far less frequent (maybe one hours play instead of two minutes!).
Just recently I decided to treat myself to a HIS Radeon HD 3870. Imagine my shock; after about a week I was watching a xvid file while looting a mission area. The same thing happened, but this time instead of causing the machine to lock up and require a restart if I leave it for about twenty seconds the machine issues a VPU recovery and everything goes back to normal.
For ATI users, has anyone tried disabling VPU Recover in Catalyst Control Panel? it could be that the graphics card is trying to issue a VPU recover and is either unsucessful or failing. Switching it to a different setting may cause the system to at least reboot itself rather then hang on and attempt to recover.
It is of course just a thought, but I would be interested to know what happens. If you get a different result at least people would be closer to knowing where the issue is possibly coming from.

Whatever way CCP coded eve, it makes your graphics card shoot up in temprature. But only if its the active window.
Every other game runs fine except for eve, which will easilly bring my graphics card 30degrees higher than CS:S. Eventually it gets so hot, it just shuts down.
Wanna know how CCP managed to melt our graphics cards and stopped our pc's being able to reboot. Surely they test these patches...

It is normal for the temperature to rise while the GPU is being worked :). And the new Premium content does tax the gfx card quite a bit.
However . . . I had quite a few problems recently, that I believe I managed to solve.
First of all, the temperature does rise pretty fast to around 90+ degrees Celsius, while INSIDE the station or just outside it. No such temps while in missions, pvp, gates etc - lots of models, full graphic effects - temp. is stable around 70-75. But near/in the station . . .OMG.
Since the thermal shutdown threashold of my graphic chip is somewhere aorund 127 Celsius, I`m not that worried by the high temeperatures. This process does happen in any modern 3D game you play - just launch the app. that suits your gfx card - or Ati Tool regardless of manufacturer - and log the temperatures. Check the log file after, you will see the increases in any game, EVE included.
But, as I said, I experienced some problems - one system shutdown 2-3 days ago that I attributed to a freak occurence and not hight temperatures , since I`ve been unable to reproduce it so far. And believe me, I tried and stressed the card to it`s max. So no HW problems on my end. The thing that drove me nuts was that EVE just froze on random times - i.e. 2 minutes after launch, or 30 minutes etc.
I remembered that I modified one graphic setting in EVE - color depth to 24 bits w. 8 bit alpha - but only after extensive testing - temperatures , ATitool + 3d mark running at the same time (and at a snail pace as you can imagine, they are murder for any system) and so on.
Lo and behold, as soon as I changed the color depth to 24 bits (no 8 bit alpha) I had no more problems. The temp still is high, but no more random freezez. Might be a freak misunderstanding with the new nVidia Forceware drivers, I dunno , didn`t try to revert to older dirvers and test the 24 bit w.8 bit alpha on/off to see. I was just too happy that I could play.
Might help somebody, just try it.
P.S. - sys specs - C2D6400, 2 Gb Ram, Asus 7950GT, latest nVidia drivers (19.12.2007)
------------------------------------------------------ . . . File not found. Should I fake it ? (Y/N) . . . |

Had lock ups and freezes a couple weeks ago fixed them by lowering my graphics acceleration in windows down a couple notches turned off the preium content and turned off all the graphics settings(I honestly don't really see a difference) and lowered the cache usage down to normal.
With these changes I have not had one lock up while using two clients and my lag/FPS loss is near non-existant.

Have you tried the various flavors of custom drivers? Did not help me but worth a shot.
One guy said that installing older Omega drivers over his new drivers (keeping the new) fixed his issue. So it may be a setting/config issue, i would try that as well.
You can always get rid of Crossfire and upgrade your Video card.

Why would I want to upgrade? O_O I don't need DX10 since I can't stand Vista, and these play all I have on Hight no problem.
Some of the custom drivers, drop the colour depth to in an attempt to raise the FPS of a game.

I've had a load of graphical problems since Trinity. Running an AMD 3700+ and nvidia 7800GT. I've trying latest drivers, older drivers but I'm getting everything from BSOD's to garbled colours, white ships & really messing up my PC. This happens on premium content and classic.
First time in a year & half I've had problems as such. Hopefully it'll get sorted soon though, seems quite a few folks are having similar issues.

This problem you people are descriping sounds identical to a problem I had in another MMORPG I used to play. I tried everything to fix it: First I cleaned and reinstalled my drivers, using varies driver cleaning software, reinstalled the game entirely, in the end I even formatted my computer and did everything from scratch, just to have the same problem still! I could not remove it! But, I found a way! It was not the best option ever, but I stopped having crashed and it was very simple: Windowed Mode. Seeing how the GFX card then both send game and OS signals or something like that, I never had a crash again. I recommend people trying to run EVE in windowed mode if they have this problem and see if it removes the crashes.

I have a problem like this too, blue screen of death, freezing after 10 minutes with two accounts
it started an hour ago so it is fresh, I haven't done anything to my pc in the last week, haven't changed any settings or updated anything
first it said there was a problem with direct x and then NV something .dll
it seems having more than one account going, the settings get entangled somehow with each other
example,
the white background that completely slows your game to a crawl, so I go on the other account which hasn't any problems and hit the esc to bring up the options and then close them straight away, the problem disappears on the other account and both accounts are fine
another clue was when you have one account going and then you try and start another, the second account just flickers the screen and everything is like a slide show and very hard to quit anything
the settings aren't being remembered or the accounts are clashing somehow, fighting for the same resources
my theory is resetting the settings to the default settings everytime, I mean every setting, I don't think this will work because they are trying to fight over resources ( not all the time ) some of the time
dunno, I had the blue screen of death about a months ago as well but it disappeared
going to run the eve log and see if I can reproduce this and hopefully catch this problem

I had a very similar issue when trying to run the client with premium graphics twice on one machine (or even one premium and one classic). I only had one client installed and never had issues without the premium graphics, but when trying to play with two clients at a time with one or more using premium graphics my monitors would go black after a couple of minutes of play. I would have to reset my computer as nothing would bring it back. I recently installed another copy of the client and now I can run two premium graphics clients without issue.

Edited by: Finden Parril on 10/01/2008 10:37:33 My Nvidia 7900GS has been giving problems for a while now but only when playing Eve. I am running Eve Classic and I get graphic glitches and eventually a freeze which requires a re-boot to fix. This seemed to be linked to the amount of time I spent sitting in a station, so I downloaded the Nvidia Monitor View utility and started checking temperatures. With just the operating system running (Windows XP)the GPU temperature ran at a steady 61C. Running Eve and fighting NPC's in space (Worlds Collide lvl 4) the card ran nicely at 71C with no problem whatsoever.
However, whenever I approached a station, the temperature started to rise, and after 45 seconds just sitting docked without doing anything else, the temperature hit 90C and I started to have grahical problems. Is this just happening with Nvidia cards or are other cards similarly stressed by Eve stations?

Disabling the "new content" and playing eve vanilla with 2 accounts is just fine (gpu temp max 73ŠC). *wondering* the temp of the gpu might be high with 85ŠC on my 1900xt using the new content but like i mentionend above: the "crash" occurs while having like 68ŠC and sometimes with 80ŠC.

I have this graphic problems as well but only in stations.
I run 2 pc's with 1 cliant on each, the one on my older pc a p4 3200 with a geforce 6600gt has no problems at all, runs perfectly no graphic problems.
My other pc amd dualcore 64 3800+ with geforce 7600 sli has constantly graphic problems in stations. Graphics in station just bad, names of other players docked blured or station overview with swimmed out colours. Some times my screen jumpds from image to image and mouse pointer goes jumping from one place to another, then complete lockup and have to hardboot my pc, then it works fine again till some hours, or days and boom again.
Tried diferent graphic settings, running with sli active or only on 1 card tried diferent drivers. Nothing seems to help to solve this those graphic problems just keep happening.
Tho my 6600gt does not have any troubles, wierd you must think that a better pc with a more potent card should run better but aint so.

My wife and I have identical computers we bought on the same day. We use our computers for different purposes and she has different software. She keeps having the game unrecoverably freeze up on her, and I've never had it happen to me once. This leads me to believe it is a software issue. She doesn't have a problem with any other games. Hopefully CCP is able to track this one down soon, before she gets too frustrated with it and quits altogether.

I think thats it. Somehow the gpu is going crazy when docked (doing this with 2 accounts occurs the crash). Anyway, the game was stable and playable w/o any gpu-crashes. I've tested it the whole evening yesterday. Once i had a ccpexe.exe file error but thats another problem i guess.
To everyone who has this kind of crash with his gpu (temp): switch the "load station environment" to off. And plz write here if it works on your pc too.
It has a lot to commend it while most of you had the crash while one account was docked.

Edited by: Abiel Mordecai on 21/01/2008 19:31:06 I'll join this sorry tale of woe... I'm running a Geforce 6600 and I crash at random intervals. I feel like I'm at alcoholics anonymous. Anyway, the classic client will run for a couple of hours fine and then just crash randomly. The premium content runs fine for just a few minutes (framerate isn't great though) and then it just crashes. Doesn't matter what I'm doing, in station, in space, whatever, my PC just freezes. This happens about 90% of the time when I close the client too. I crash as my PC tries to redraw my windows desktop. It happens less often if I change my Windows desktop background to "none" instead of an image. I'm running XP 32bit SP2. I also crash if I alt-tab or try to run eve in a window mode. The crashing happens in both clients. I know it's my graphics card that's the problem, and it's not likely to be overheating because I run other demanding games fine for hours. I'm running latest drivers, sound is off (Soundblaster Audigy 2) and I've scoured the forums for every solution I can find. This could be a problem with Geforce cards and DirectX. GeForce cards run fine with OpenGL programs, but when it comes to DirectX they aren't so hot. I've seen on various forums a similar problem to mine with GeForce cards, but does this mean we should moan at Nvidia or CCP?
*Edit* Full system specs: AMD Athalon XP 2400+ 2Ghz 1.5GB Ram GeForce 6600 Soundblaster Audigy 2 All Drivers are up to date 32Bit XP Home Edition SP2 I've done cache clearing and full client reinstall. |

I have tried different driver versions, that doesn't seem to effect it much. I tried reducing graphics settings with the ATI CCC, it usually doesn't help.

This is exactly the crash i had. Do you play with the new content? Check where the crash occurs (while docked at least with 1 account?). If so, try to swtich the "load station enviroment" to off. Just give it a try.
Its kinda unbeliveable but while docked most cards went hot like mostly everyone mentioned above on page 1 (my went up to 92ŠC - if i had the new content active). So its overheating.

I can't say I've ever had this problem in EVE (been only playing for a week though, but longs sessions a day), but I had this problem playing World of Warcraft which is, I think, more demanding (hardware-wise) than premium EVE. My setup:
Intel QuadCore 2.4 MHz BFG Nvidia 8800GTX OC2 2Gb RAM [DDR3 1066 MHZ] Samsung HD321KJ [320 Gb; 7200 RpM; SATA2] Realtek Soundcard [Asus P5E3 onboard device] Corsair HX Series Modular Power Supply 620W
Windows XP PRO, SP2
The reason for why you get a black screen is (as earlier explained) most probably the fact that your GPU is overheating but can also be that your power supply ain't good enough.
ADVICE: try to play the game with an open MIDI Tower (i.e the big box where all your hardware is) and see if it helps.
If it helps, it means that you have bad air streaming in your tower and that you need to re-configure your internal fans. Also try to get a monitor (software) that logs temperature of your hardware. There you can see at what temprature your screen went black.
Before starting to replace hardware, always try re-installing the software and drivers first.

Post Trinity update, same problem here. Two fresh installs of Eve, always fresh ATI catalyst/graphics drivers. WoW and Call of Duty 4 don't crash, only Eve. Play for 1 to 3 hours and graphics completely stop, i.e. dell monitor doesn't get a signal from the video card. Tested on a machine that has a PCI-E ATI x1950 Pro card, and I got bands of green thick slashes through my screen and the polygons were white flashing. Now (within last 2 weeks) my machine reboots on its own. When it comes up, it says "you system has recovered from a serious error", no ****. AMD 3500 processor, ATI x1950 Pro AGP, 4GB Ram, Gigabyte mother board. It's irratating me now.

Then the problem is not EVE, its either your hardware, setup, drivers or all the above.
Eve brings out the worst in people and hardware.
If you really want to identify the problem, download some utilities that test your hardware and reports on temperature. Nvidia has ntune. There are others. Try it, stress your card.
Trust me. I helped a buddy setup a Quad core, running 8800GT on Vista and he gets 100FPS or better with max settings on Premium and EVE is as stable as EVE can be.
p.s. I am not suggesting EVE doesn't have problems, but anymore then most games.
Good luck with that

I had this problem with graphics card crashing several times a day when playing EVE.
Then after I changed AGP speed setting from 8x to 4x, not a single crash, for many days, with EVE running overnight.
It seems like the most sure way of solving this problem by the user is to throttle your graphics card, by any means possible. The proper solution is of course to make CCP fix their 3D engine so it doesn't overload graphics cards.

I've been having a similar problem here with temperatures going into the high 80's when sitting in a station. I am using a X1950 pro AGP, it seems the majority of issues here are occurring with ATi cards.
I've managed to keep my temperatures under 70 by using the following:
- Using ATi tray tools set the fan to 100% when the temperature hits 60.
- Setting VSync on with triple buffers via ATi tray tools.
- Turn off Station backgrounds in game.
Unfortunately the cooling on my Sapphire X1950 pro is woefully inadequate. I've got my eye on a Zalman VF1000 cooler to do the job properly...

Add me to this lis. The problem originally started for me when I downloaded LoTRO. I thought that it was just that particular game, but now Eve is doing the same thing. At some random moment my video card (ati x1950 pro) just stops talking to my monitor and then the computer starts this weird restart cycle that is doomed to failure. I will try some of the fixes I have read about here but if that doesn't fix the problem I guess I have to go back to WoW. So sad as I just reactivated my Eve acct less than 12 hrs ago.

I expected to see a thread full of ati issues. I have lost alot of respect for ATI especially after vista (touted as the newest multimedia experience) was released and all the ati all-in-wonder cards TV function couldn't be used on any vista machine due to OS incompatiblity... and nothing was ever done to fix this.
But I went ahead anyway and got a x1950Pro for my 2nd machine to dual-box eve.
Every once in a while... screen will go black, monitor will go on standby and PC is absolutely unrespeonsive. No, it's not the video card overheating, otherwise I'd have alarms beeping... pretty much every time I was in station. The reset button wont work, a complete power off is called for.
Last night, I disabled the windows power management to NOT turn off my monitor when idle, I think that might be my issue since I have never got the black screen while actively playing.
I will try the direct sound fix I see above me - that looks like a possible fix as well (just because your vid blacks out doesnt mean it cant be caused by some other hardware)
But what differs from me and alot of these posts is... I realize the issue is probably on my side and can be fixed by myself... not CCP. Otherwise everyone would have the same problem. Its probably an ATI thing.... out of CCPs realm of control.

Just today I've started having similar problems. My screen freezes, monitor turns off like it has no signal, then comes back on and Windows says that "The display driver stopped working and has recovered."
This happens three times in a row sometimes and is highly annoying when in combat. Call of duty 4 and Team Fortress 2 run with no problems, and EVE ran fine until today. I have no idea what is going on.

I never had any problems with any other game, but eve was causing my graphics card to hang up too...then after one of the hangs, the card was completely dead and had to be trashed. I'm pretty sure eve killed it.

Edited by: Novaek on 07/02/2008 07:24:02 Well I don't know if anyone else had this problem yet, I know folks are having their videocards crash on them due to overheating.
I'm not sure if I am the first or not, but my nVidia 7950GX2 was having issues, after I started playing eve again a few weeks ago sometimes EVE would just crash my computer, couldn't figure out why, tried the audio fixes, etc. Nothing worked, and it would crash just from opening the client, I wouldn't even get to login sometimes before my comp would suddenly crash.
Crashed before login, crashed after login, crashed after I get into a station sometimes, and others it would run perfectly without issue. My last spat with EVE was on Friday the 1st of Febuary.
It actually destroyed my videocard, I would try to boot up, my monitor would display a "No signal detected" then "Shutting down Monitor in 5 seconds". after that, as the computer tries to boot up the internal sound would start beeping, 4-5 times then stop, obviously something was wrong and I found this thread and assumed the worst.
So I ordered a new nVidia 8800 GT, and it fixed the problem, computer booted up fine without fail. I have not yet tried to play eve again, but I am pretty ****ed off EVE overheated and burned out a $550 card(luckily it's under a 3 year warrenty) but none the less this was a ridiculous pain in the ass that cost me an addition $250 for a replacement card.
Obviously if CCP had any tact, this issue would have been addressed already seeing as how many people are people are having problems with this. It's one thing to have buggy software that crashes a game, it's another thing to have a game that's crashing computers and DESTROYING HARDWARE. We are CUSTOMERS here for crying outloud, paying for a game, and we should be getting GOOD customer service as well as a HALF DECENT product.
After some friends got me playing again, I'm not too goddamn thrilled right now since a $550 videocard got burnt to hell, and I had to pay $250 for another just to get my system running again. All thanks to CCP and their ineptitude when it comes to resolving anything.

Had a similar problem after updating my motherboard.. Game would run for about 10 minutes then the whole PC would shut down / stop responding / Eve would crash out!

Whole system would overheat to ridiculous temperatures! 80-90 deg. on the CPU over 120 on the gfx card (temps in celcius) when running Eve but would barely rise on HL2 / BF2142 / COD4 / 3dMark2006 !!
Traced mine back to some rogue registry settings!! Swept the registry for any Eve/CCP references and did a quick re-install & it's been running fine since.

lo people,
now theres a million different things this COULD be, and it gets tiring hearing everyone say "update your drivers!" or get "directx updated!" or whatever all the time, as if you didn't know better. yes, these problems are happening alot to ATI, but they happen to nvidia users, too, so you can't really just say it's an ATI problem.
I had this exact same problem a long while ago. I'd play EVE, and after a bit the screen would go into standby. only rebooting solved teh problem.
in the end my problem was quite simple. I was running a complete crap power supply unit to feed the needs of my rig setup. yeah it decent wattage, but its amps where it counted was sub-par. I swapped it out for somehting with more RAWR, and the problem stopped immediately. My hardware was performance level gear, above average specs. that said, your gear doesn't need to be performance for it to demand more oomph than the PSU can provide.
in the end, yeah, it could be alot of different things. but i seriously recommned checking the stats on your PSU, and making sure they are sufficient for your computer. Wattage is important, but do NOT overlook the ampage on the 12v rails the unit can put out, especially in the dedicted PCIe lines that feed into the card itself. today's motherboards, CPU's, and GPU's require lots of juice, but also the ability to make it effective. thats where ampage comes in.
this linky should help advise you on what u might need: http://www.pcpower.com/products/power_supplies/selector/ and this linky has GREAT technical reviews of all sorts of PSU's: http://www.jonnyguru.com/
i know this advice might not solve everybody's problems, but i suspect alot of users simply neglect their PSU, when in truth it's probably one of the most important pieces of hardware to consider, since it literally feeds the machine.
cheers and GL with ur problem solving.

This happened to me too some time ago. What solved it for me was changing the AGP setting from 8X to 4X from BIOS. I'm guessing a compatibility problem or a driver issue of some sort since crashing happened with other graphical programs too than just EVE.
Hardware involved: Asus A8V and Radeon 9800Pro.

Chalk up another user that suffers from either TDRs (Display Stops Responding), or hard locks while playing Eve. I have not had any problems with the new Trinity client until they patched it and that's when the woes began. At any random amount of time, like many, my machine locks and display shuts down forcing a hard reset, or Windows resets the graphics driver allowing to exit the program and do a soft reset. On average I'd say it happens at least once in six hours of play.
In my case, I know it's not overheating, both gfx cards never exceed 55C while running Eve. The PSU is not underrated for the system. When Eve does occasionally TDR, it indicates that display driver fails to respond and is re-initialized. And regardless of having sound on/off, SLI on/off, windowed/fullscreen, Eve-Voice enabled/disabled, nothing so far has solved this dilemma for me. By comparison, Eve puts a much lighter load on my machine than NWN2 or Crysis. And all my other applications/games run without fault, under extended periods of time, like many other people above me. Some may argue that a bad driver installation is the culprit, and I'd disagree on that to a point. A program making illegal calls/passing incorrect vars to a driver can also cause a failure. Seeing that this problem affects nVidia, AMD(ATI), XP, and Vista users leads me to believe that there is more a problem on the application end of it. I'm not necessarily trying to find fault, but rather point in the direction of a possible solution. I enjoy Eve, and would like to play more. But, everytime I see log showing that the hive files had to be rebuilt because of a hard lock, It doesn't exactly encourage me to play. Hopefully CCP can pin down what changed between initial release of Trinity and 1.1 patch.

I have done deep memory tests as well as cpu, gpu, motherboard, harddrives, switched network card etc.
The weird thing is I can run all other new and heavy GFX games all fine. Stalker COD 4 etc.. And the problems only occur in eve and started just a few days ago. Before that I could run 2 clients with premium content all fine. Now I can't run classic or premium, as it crash within 1-5 minutes.
If ccp wanna keep my subscriptions they better fix it asap. I already closed one account. |

Edited by: Peon''c on 20/02/2008 20:13:36 Short version: setting vertical sync fixed my problem. (Display & Graphics settings, enable Advanced Settings, set Present Interval to "Interval one")
Then the long version:
I installed EVE to continue playing on an account from couple of years back. I don't remember having any issues back then, on my old comp. My new comp is a Core 2 Duo E6600 (IIRC), 2 gigs of memory, Radeon x1900 graphics card. (I expect x1900 to turn out a little underpowered for my gaming needs soonish.) It's a Shuttle case, motherboard and PSU, and that means the PSU isn't especially powerful - but good at overdelivering on their promises. (According to what I remember from hardware test labs anyway.)
Soon after starting the client I could hear the fans speeding up. After spending some time in character selection, or a little sooner if I went to character creation or logged in to a station, flickering graphical artifacts appeared. Later the screen went black. Sometimes the ATI recover tool would reset the driver and things would last a little longer, other times I had to reset the computer. It seemed to be random when the sounds would continue playing or get stuck, but I'm pretty sure the comp stopped to responding to any commands after a moment.
Stuff I tried that didn't help: - installing newest DirectX and ATI Catalyst driver - disabling premium graphics - enabling both premium and HDR - setting color depth to 24 bits (without alpha) - turning off Load Station Environment - switching between full screen and windowed at both 1024x768 and 1280x1024 - lowering Depth/Stencil Format - enabling 32 bit z buffer and triple buffering for OpenGL in Catalyst Control center (EVE Online doesn't seem to have a setting for OpenGL, but anyway...) - disabling hardware acceleration for sound - completely disabling sound
Also tried several combinations of above things. The flickering artifacts never went away once they had appeared after fresh client restart, although it seemed it sometimes took longer for the client/comp to crash. (I didn't always wait for it before tweaking stuff, shutting client, giving it a moment and starting again.)
Then I tried a suggestion by Falkrich Swifthand and Vizhonia in this thread.
Originally by: Vizhonia
Suggestions:
Enable V-sync lock. Contrary to the general concept that this is a catch all limiter it is not true. Fully digital graphical interfaces that are never passed through an analogue converter do not have V-syncs. They can simulate one but it's not a real v-sync and doesn't really limit the graphics, rather just conferting it to a frame by frame mode of display.
cont...
After setting Present Interval to one - that name sure didn't say V-sync to me btw - I was able to spend 10 minutes logged in without problems, which was already a record. Then I changed all the other settings to their defaults, enabling premium graphics etc. No problems. Finally I changed Present Interval to "Interval default" (default state had been "Interval immediate"), figuring that it'd get it right based on my desktop settings. All good for almost an hour now.

I guess eve is a real trigger but not the reason for many of your problems like this. Dont know wtf graficcard is getting hot while sitting idle in a station but seems to be like this and what you doing on a station? You go afk for 10 min and here we go:)

Many times,as soon as the splash screen dissapears, and the login screen appears my pc freezes up. Get perhaps 1 frame every 5 seconds or so...Can do nothing.. (While at other times it starts normally) Is on a freshly formatted drive, all updated drivers,no other issues. Audio disabled. Edited by: Green Halo on 06/03/2008 19:36:44 I built a new computer a few weeks ago, and thought about getting an aftermarket heatsink for the GPU (Best thing I ever did). Before I'd put the heatsink on, I tested the card without it (Nvidia 8800GT). Booted up and logged temperatures around 45-50C idling, then around 60-65C on a load of two EVE clients. At the time I didn't notice the temps when at the splash screen, so I went on my merry way. A few days later I happened to open EVE (leaving it at the splash screen) and run downstairs to make some food, as soon as I got back upstairs I noticed my GPU temperature at 75C! (with one client logged in and one at splash screen).
Needless to say, I pulled the sucker out and installed the nice heatsink. Now I've getting idles around 35C and loads up to 45C (<3 Thermaltake). But I can't help to notice the HUGE difference in temps from the splash screen vs ingame.
PS: Yes I'm using Premium and Yes I have it set to max settings (for the most part).

Add yet another very unsatisfied customer to this list. I've reinstalled XP, tore my PC apart to clean it, lowered all the graphics settings and my PC still crashes. The last thing I did was cancel my account until CCP at least acknowledges THEY need to make a fix to the client.

Edited by: Amaron Ghant on 09/03/2008 01:14:02 And here I was going mad.
Im running a quad core 2.66 intel, and 2 bfg 8800gtx, plus 4 gig of memory.
After a random amount of time in eve my machine locks up. I have to switch the machine off. Absolutely infuriating tbh because so far it only happens in eve
further cpu sits at 30 when in vista and jumps to 48 when playing eve.
Gpu 1 sits at 50 gpu 2 at 58
Play eve and gpu 1 jumps to 72 and gpu 2 jumps to 78
Not much help but interesting never the less

I've started experiencing this exact problem after I installed the 8.3 catalyst drivers, today ( running x1950 ).
Only happens when I run 2 clients ( premium ).
Clients freeze, screen goes black and into standby mode.
This actually caused HDD corruption forcing me to re-install Windows and EVE... will un-install catalyst and get some 3rd party drivers for now.

Yup... got this one too.
Basically it seems that my gpu shutsdown and monitor goes to standby on very random intervals. Until last night, i played 3 days with only 1 crash per day but yesterday i got them every 5 minutes when logged in for 2 hours. This started happening after the boost patch which also means that it is the only thing that has changed on my comp.
No idea how to reproduce the thing, nothing seems to fix it wholly. I've been changing settings, reduced desktop resolution to match eve's, moved my shoes and changed shirt and nothing. Either i keep crashing like no tomorrow or i can play for days making me believe that it is fixed now.
Made bug report bout it last week and like this thread, no reply what so ever. Atleast this post gets bumped if nothing else.

Edited by: Frygok on 23/03/2008 23:01:30 I'd like to add my voice to the frustrated players experiencing this.
For me, it happened after the boot.ini error which forced me to reinstall everything on my computer. Ever since I have not been able to play more than max 10-15 mins until I either get a black screen + reboot, or Blue Screen of Death. It happens everywhere.
Before the boot.ini and trinity, I had NO problems, and could easily handle 3 clients running simultanously, now I can't even use one classic with lowest settings. It even seems to be getting worse, as I can't even open up the client before I get BSoD or computer reboot.
AMD Athlon 64 X2 4200+ 2.21 GHZ, 2 GB RAM NVIDIA GeForce 7900 GT/GTO
I checked the temperature of my graphics card, but it never went above 62, and everything else was running perfectly. I can play any game I want, except EVE.

Edited by: Kohindall on 24/03/2008 15:42:58 IŠve been experiencing the same issue over the past few days. I have tried every fix/tweak I could find from web, but no success... At yesterday I noticed that, IŠll get it everytime when I open the map. So, now I just have to navigate with out it and IŠll get only random "Display driver has stopped working and has succesfully recovered" freezes.
EDIT: Oh, and atleast a reply from CCP like "we are working on it" would be nice

I get randomly black screens for about 1-2 seconds and then the message "Display driver has stopped working and has succesfully recovered"! Happens mainly on gates which can be very critical sometimes!
Other games are working fine so this seems a problem with EVE i think.
I got a ATI HD3850 512mb card.

I'm playing on 2 laptops - an old one with fresh installation of Windows XP and a new one with Vista. Different graphic cards, CPUs, RAM, soundcards, systems - everything. Yet, they both act the same way - lock up randomly when playing EVE, need to hard reset them. Quite funny CCP hasn't been able to solve it yet.. and probably even more funny I'm stupid enough to keep paying for the game Giving it one more month.

Game freezes when I launch second window. It seems to be that both clients locks each other. The space in the second window becomes white (without texture), and the game runs horribly slow. Closing first window unlocks the second.
Very often my PC completely freeze during launch second window. Even login screen do not appear. |

Edited by: Jenny Spitfire on 30/03/2008 13:55:21 tis is stranged. could sofware liek eve kill a graphix card? my nvidie card is damaged after trying to play eve. it showed soem pictures on login ten eve window goes fuzzy but background was ok. same thing happens for a few times. later when my computer restart, my monitor goes blanked but computre was trying to turn on.
it was like the machine died. i sent it for a repair and got a new graphic card and the pc could turn on.
am i unlucky or can eve really damage the vidoe card? --------- Technica impendi Caldari generis. Pax Caldaria!
