I used to run 2 clients in windowed mode so I could use both my screens. I really hope they did not nerf multi-boxers.

When I start up my second account in a second Eve client (no Premium) my computer locks up and screen starts blinking, I can move my mouse a few centimeters every 3rd second. It worked fine before Trinity.

Still holding my breath.........
Has anyone found a work-around? Does deleting cache work? Maybe running a second client from an independent eve folder (like connecting to Sisi)?
This really sucks....

@marie: If you take a look at the "Known Issues" in the Patch Notes section to your left, you'll notice that CCP has been reading the forums. A lot of the issues being posted have been listed there which means that CCP is aware of the issues and is working to solve them.
I'm also having problems running multiple clients and I have my fingers crossed. This issue should be one of the first ones to be fixed since a large number of people run multiple accounts at the same time.

My fix was installing a second eve folder using a fresh download (2nd license?). Now I have two installs of eve: c:/program files/ccp/eve and c:/program files/ccp/eve2
This worked for me. Now I run two clients with no problems.
Hope it works 4 u 2 |

I also get the same problem, though thought it might be my GFX card (as it is a 3850, though it might be an issue with the drivers being very new). Think I am glad to hear it is a client problem instead...
I will try installing to a second dir when I get home though and see if that works!

I've got a Vista 64-running 6600 Quad with 4g DDR3 and an 8800GTS 640, and, like many, can't run multiple clients in window mode post-patch. I don't crash, but framerates plummet and the game gets glitchy really fast. Running in full-screen mode, the problem disappears, and I can open at least 3 clients without trouble.
What I'm wondering is whether the windowed mode problem is specific to Nvidia (8800 series) or whether it's universal, affecting all eve players on all platforms.
Does installing a second full client allow you to run both clients in windowed mode without these slow-ups? Or, is the problem windowed mode itself and CCP implementation of it in Trinity?
I don't mind installing a second client, but multi-boxing in fullscreen is reason to drop several of my multiple accounts. Despite a new computer, I find it takes about 3 secs to ALT+TAB between clients, which is more than can be afforded in a game like EVE.
CCP, please address this issue. It's clearly affecting the enjoyability for a lot of us paying for multiple accounts. Official EVE media spots often treat the number of accounts as the number of players, although CCP clearly knows that the number of players with multiple accounts is significant. Again, this needs to be addressed, not swept under the rug like desync, draftsman implants, etc. etc.
Bom!

I dont think you even need to do a full "install" and you can just copy the game folder from one directory to another (like you do with SiSi). I could be wrong tho...I have not tried it due to problems reactivating my accounts (hence the alt).

Copy when Eve is active = BAD
Do this when you aren't playing.
Two installations cured most of my problems with running two clients, even though my main PC used to run 2 or 3 from the same EvE install no problems.

So I copied my EVE folder to a duplicate folder in Program Files, and I launched two separate clients to see if window mode on 2 monitors would perform any better.
For me at least, using 2 full clients does nothing to improve two-box fps with windowed mode.
IMHO, window mode is just borked at present, but I'd like to hear from anyone that has multi-clienting working smoothly outside of fullscreen.
Sort of wrecks the game for those of us who have invested in multiple monitors and accounts, doesn't it?

correct. copying the folder works fine. Vista users will have problems with settings stepping on one another as Vista has a unified cache for all copies of the game. not fixable at this time according to the Eve tech monkeys.
framerates suck in windowed mode on vista with 7300GT and 4GB of memory. so don't fall prey to the dream that adding memory or new gfx card to your compy will fix the issue. i've tested and with my hardware i can get three accounts going at once with tolerable lag. 4th account makes the lag pretty bad. i have not upgraded to latest gfx drivers. will do that and see if it helps framerate issues in windowed mode (currently 10-20fps even when using one account at a time).

Actually vista just restricts where programs can write to without administration privileges.
So, simple solution is to allow users to specify by command-line the folder used, instead of restricting to using EVE as the folder name. Or use a subdirectory of the EVE directory for each copy of the client.
Not sure what options are available, perhaps it can already be directed to alternative paths.

I'm on Windows XP with a shader 2.0 card (read: no premium content)
I found that running two clients did indeed get a bit sluggish after Trinity, however I found that turning down my graphics card settings (who needs 16 times AA anyways?) and made the "second" account smaller (1024*768 vs the 1280*1024 my "main" account runs at) that both accounts ran more smoothly.
Additionally, as always, disabling audio within eve vastly improved performance.
Note: eve voice WILL continue to work normally after you've disabled audio. -- Yes, this is an alt.. My main forgot to pay his bills... |

I am having same problems since patch and i run eve classic. I used to be able to run miltiple accounts. I cannot run the premium content. but what is odd the first day my game would run miltiple accounts, but as i would undock and jump 3 jumps i would lose the skins on my modules and ships then get a black screen.
now it wont even boot, if i have 1 client then try another i just get a colorful screen of rainbow lockupedness ive checked my card through a million tests so its not my card. Its just the new patch. hope they fix this soon im going to try the multi folder,to see if it works. hope soo not being able to run multiple accounts is crippling. Cmon CCP why u acting like Electronic arts realesing games updated without proper testing. i have seen more bugs this time than Kali... very disappointing.

I have 2 clients (premium) running in windowed mode fine. 1 copy copied from original install.
the only problem im having is that any changes (screen size / res / settings) are applied to both the next time i start the game.
my machine A64 4600+ 3gb ram and Nividia 7950gtx and a nvidia 8500gt.... i have 3 screen on my machine
I do get a touch of lag when undocking ect (takes a sec to draw everything) and havnt been in firefight yet with both accounts... but can run mission with one account ok.
performance (cpu / mem usage) seams to be about he same as previous client (pre patch). I havent changed drivers at all sice before patch
if only i could get the cache / settings on premium client workign ok...

Well i tried to copy the folder to the desktop and run a second account from there. Same issue. i have a p4 2.64 1gb of ram and a radeon 9700 pro with soundmax audio onboard., it just will not open a second account period it just plain crashes even with eve classic i.e all i can run. i hope they fix this as i really hate having to switch all the time i used to run them flawlessly pre patch. I have to say this is the worst patch ive seen ever and i started in 2k5. none have been more buggy yet. sigh, hope they sort it all out soon. NO MORE CONTENT RELEASE CCP FIX THIS DAMN GAME ALREADY> im sure the useers would rather have a working game lagg free than, a bunch of new ships.

I have same exact issue. I use classical client with ATI Radeon 9800 PRO. If the first client has been running for some minutes and I start the second client, my computer crashes. I have tried full reinstall of Eve and ATI drives. Will try clean OS install, but I have little faith.
Please take this issue serious! I have seen many posts related to this lately and no comment from CCP!?!? At least let us know that you are looking into this issue or give us some feedback on theory. The guys affected are some of your best customers (multi account owners).

Edited by: Gibbah on 12/12/2007 18:22:21 I have a Radeon 9800 Pro, WinXP and Eve Classic and even though I have two separate clients installed as soon as I start the second my computer locks up and everything starts to blink and I can't do much other then reboot my computer.
There were no problem running two clients at all prior Trinity. I even made a clean re-installation of XP and I have all new fresh drivers and everything, but no change.
This is very anoying as I have two active acounts and not beeing able to use them simultainiously it is no longer much worth having two accounts at all.
Pleace CCP, have a look at this a.s.a.p.

I solved my problems with not beeing able to run multi clients.
I was fileing a bug-report about this so I started the logserver to get a log-file on what was happening and after that it works fine for me running two clients.
I started the logserver for my second client. Started the first client and logged in. Started the second client (which did not crash this time) and logged in. Now it works fine

heya Gibbah,
Would you mind being a little more explicit about what log setting you changed? I'm not finding the old log parameter in the main menus, nor is there any master server control in log settings.
Keen to try this, thanks!

I doubt it is an actuall fix for the problem, but it solved it for me at least
This is what I did.
1. Ran the LogServer.exe that is in the install directory of my second client. 2. In the LogServer: File/New Workspace 3. Started my first Eve client. 4. Logged in in the game. 5. Started my second client wich now work.
After this it works all the time (without the LogServer) for me.

Gibbah,
Good on you for a workaround that solves this annoying issue on some systems. On my Vista Home Premium (64) machine, however, playing with logserver.exe in various combinations with launching my first and second client does nothing. If anything it makes the frame rates worse, I'd say. What's also interesting is that I get system-wide lag once I open a second EVE client. Even after shutting down one client, the other one continues on with an fps reading of around 10-15, and Windows acts sick. With a quad core cpu and 4g of RAM, I'm pretty sure this isn't just EVE's killer new textures dragging on my system.
Anyway, I'm assuming Gibbah's fix is specific to XP? Does anyone know of a way in Vista of creating a second cache for a second client? Seems like shared resources therein might be the problem.
Bom!

Edited by: Gibbah on 13/12/2007 14:12:43 Yep, using LogServer solved my problem specificly for a XP system and with Eve Trinity Classic using a Radeon 9800 Pro. About the LogServer decreasing FPS, I only had to use the LogServer once, after that I don't have to have it running anymore.

Having the same issues, only in Vista.
Someone mentioned reverting to classic mode on a 2nd client and then restarting that client through the right-click+"run as administrator" function in Vista. Interestingly, running two separate clients in classic mode, as administrator fixes the problem. Unfortunately, however, changing one client's gfx settings affects the other client as well, so no way to test one client in premium mode with the other in classic.
For the record, I also have an 8800gts 640, intel dual core, 4g RAM, etc., etc and 2 22" flat panels. Something's awry here. Please CCP, at least acknowledge this issue. There ain't no power in two at the moment, and I'm feeling increasingly foolish about keeping the number of accounts I do when I can only run one at a time without seriously downgrading the game or alt-tabbing incessantly.
