I was looking at the eve-gate screenshots of the old beta UI from 2002, anyone remember these? Linkage
What are your views on some of the aspects of the old UI vs the current. Anyone else but me like the simplified minimalist look that doesnt have huge icons for the blind?
Maybe we can get some voices on this matter to see what everyone thinks. At the very least maybe a dev will read this post and make an option to pick between a minimalist UI and the current?
(Not bashing CCP for current UI, just curious to public opinion/interest)

Was in beta, the minamilistic look is great and all but in the end this one seems to work much better. _______________

I wasn't in beta that early either, but current UI is an fps hog :( If I remove the ui (ctrl+f9) my fps triples.

Current UI. Hands down.

The old one was pretty clunky and not very user friendly, current one is much better
To get all your icons you had to click on the picture (or was it the little light underneath it?) and it expanded into a big window that ate up most of your view anyway.

The major problem with the old UI was the Neocom. To access it, you had to click on the little globe under your char portrait, and it would then expand. But, sometimes the neocom window would be too small and youd have to waste time expanding it to the right size.
It was all a big waste of time in the end just to access something as simple as your wallet (whereas in the UI today, you can just hover over the icon to get isk count).
Still, the old one has a certain appeal to it

I like it . . . much cleaner. But it would be nice to have a customizable UI. And more hot-keys!

I wish we had a customisable command bar like in Neverwinter Nights. 12 buttons mapped to the F1-F12 keys that we could reassign to ANY command we wanted. CTRL/SHIFT/ALT would swap to more bars of buttons. Would bee much better than the right click haven we have now.

I am glad to see some are posting a half and half view between the to UI apearances. However customizeable to the extent people would want would be a time consuming nightmare in the python scripting language (which is what the game uses).
If neocon was buggy and such (I wasn't around for beta) would it be possible to make a dual UI option (one minimalist simple ui thats semi customizable and the current ui) with neocon replaced with something that has user customizaable icon expansion box. Much like one found in the Litestep/Afterstep (Win/Xwin window managers/not related to eachother) Dwarf/Warf module. This could use the People & Places folder code base, but by replcaing the text display function with a reference link to each icon/link location. Of which the user can place into each given Master icon (folder like object for expansion that the use can create) to display what they may want to see (via expansion or opened window.
What's the opinion on that change?

What I would like to see is a little checkbox in the graphics options: "Freeze UI lighting".
I guess one of the reasons for the UI slowness is that it is constantly relit depending on the position of the sun. I could really live without that, and have faster display instead.
Ciao, Aronis!

I don't think the problem is that the new UI is for blind people, I think the problem is just that it is inefficent in the way it is layed out. As much as I like the modal windows and the amount of customization the system affords, I would rather just have the important info and functions layed out in a logical way.
For example, have the module "pod" stretched out to a bar that shows all modules at the same time and have locked targets appear in another bar above this and have simple visible links showing which modules are acting on which targets. Also I think the "auto" part of the scanner is something that should be part of the default layout. Damn, I have lots of things about the UI but I have to get some sleep. Maybe I will make a picture...

One look at the old UI and it's pretty obvious why it wasn't used...
The only thing that really bothers me about the current UI is the fact that the more windows you have open the more fps it eats up due to the fact that light is rendered on the windows. Seems pretty stupid to me but I'm finding out there are much more glaring issues that need to be fixed.
I don't like where it puts targets right now when you have more than two. Logically you would think they would all line up in rows but apparently not. I can't even move the target indicators to where I want only some preset locations which aren't any better than the default. Some work could definantly be done with the GUI though. Especially performance issues. Given the opportunity I would turn lighting on the GUI OFF.

The new UI is better. Way better. But it would be nice to have a lock modifier (press a key down, and simply clicking something inflight would lock it).
About it's performance, it's really hard to believe that an optimization will actually get some FPS out of the ui, since it's damn heavy no matter what.
But I really wanted to know what the "Lobby" button would do. The paintshop is known, and a DEV already stated that changing ship colors is out due to performance... but what about that Lobby button ? Did it use to work back in beta ? What did it do ? _______________________________________________
