There is currently a problem with a few Starbases that makes it possible for those attacking them to increase their rate of fire so there's almost no delay. This is an exploit and we will take appropriate action against those found using it. We are currently working on a fix and it will be deployed as soon as possible. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause you.

Isn't this one of the reasons why POS warfare was prohibited in the first place? So POS warfare is allowed again => People will attack some, so if you get a ROF of 0 you get banned, even if you can't help it that your dread is just plain evil and made of pure Win? Hmmm, seems a bit weird tbh

From what I'm getting so far, I'm assuming the starbase fix was to fix the forcefields not working, which was resulting in players accessing and destroying structures they shouldn't be able to. Since starbase warfare has now been allowed, I think it's safe to assume that the 0-ROF bug can't be used accidentally. Either that or CCP isn't making sense at all.

Considering that it took CCP a few days to put up the POS ban in the first place.
And considering that it revoked that ban, only to put it back in place a little while later.
How are you going to tell the different between people who try and exploit the situation, and those who do it completely by accident?
Maybe you guys need a traffic-light system:

So do you expect people on 0 rof bug to just sit there with a precision clock on their desk and only activate their guns when their normal rof would allow them?
In case you didnt notice the 0 rof isnt something you exploit, YOUR GAME forces you to use it when you try firing on a POS. It would be as if you boosted mission rewards 100x by mistake then tell anyone thats running a mission he is exploiting.

Any chance of clarity upon this as its hard to do POS warfare when you warp fleet of dread in and then find POS shoots back but you cant shoot it as you suddenly find you have a ROF of zero soon as you go into seige - for example. As you can see it would be case of oh, so if I shoot I get banned and if I dont shoot I die. You can see the multitude of issues this could entail.
Personly I would reinstate POS warfare until this has been fully resolved or until you can clarify EXACTLY what is an issue. You said its an issue and to not fully outline the exploit is when some know and others could blindly fall into it is pretty much neglagence at its zenith (you work for goverment in yoru sparetime I wonder :).
So please outline exactly what is the issue so people can avoid and work around it or reinstate POS warfare BAN until resolved. Until then leaving undefined grey area's is only asking for trouble.
I hope you see the sence in this, given all the facts.

I'm not suprised. In fact, I warned everyone to take care after the patch, cause things like this were bound to happen.
However, that doesn't mean that after 4 years of releasing bugged patches CCP still has the excuse they 'couldn't know' imho.

Nope. This was a bug that was already reported and supposedly ignored (wtf?). It's been a problem since Trinity was deployed, but CCP focused their efforts on a different POS bug - fixed it, and decided to allow POS warfare again - either "forgetting" or "claiming ignorance" of this "NEW" bug. Good quality control there CCP. Stop making work for yourselves and get organized already.

i'm pretty sure if you open fire and are reloading 3 seconds later that you'd probably be able to assume you're suffering from the bug. maybe ccp would ban you for that but i would hope they would see it for what it is if you stopped firing vs reloading and doing it until the pos was in reinforced.

Read Joss Sparq's post again and maybe it will make sense. After checking the linked thread, and seeing no dev response in 14 pages of posts (probably more by the time I finish this), his response was essentially "yes, it must be too much to ask for an offical answer, as there is no response in that thread." yes this is why i will be letting my 3 chars rest for a while possible forever. ccp now dont care about nothing but cash and numbers, nothing to do with the fact the game dont work right anyway, and when you do feal something went wrong all you get is our logs dont show anything....tbfh i dont think they even have logs. i mean do they even play this game we do? i see EVE growing more into a carebear/wow game tbh but CCP wont be bothered as long as the cash keeps rolling in

I don't get the logic...
At this point, are you really surprised?
I really don't know what CCP is thinking with their current method (for lack of a better word).
Dev 1: "Hey, there are major problems with POSes. It's all over the forum, in petitions, and bug reports."
Dev 2: "That's nice."
Four(?) days later: "POSes are bugged. You can't attack them."
The next day: "POSes are now working fine."
The next day: "POSes are bugged, don't attack them with dreads."
Who hear honestly thinks the third part shouldn't have been posted hours after the patch, right after the boot.ini fallout began to fade, and nothing else should have been posted, nor should, until all the problems have been identified, and fixes are in the works?

I suspect that if you find yourself the victim of this bug and firing like the devil's own minigun you should cease fire immediately and withdraw from the engagement zone, and report the bug immediately - this way you are not likely to be punnished, and the defender will be reimbursed for the losses you may have (inadvertantly) caused through this bug - though the losses were intentional, the method of achieving them was not.

The more things change the more they stay the same. I have not had any real problems with the patch but then I have not taken part in POS attcks or Jump Clones. I do on the other hand agree with the sentiments put forth on this board. CCP does not fix all exploits such not being able to shoot people who loot your wrecks and lets things like POS warfare go ahead with a bug but calling it an exploit and hammering people because of the bug. What a way to run a railroad.

Really ccp? can you afford to lose customers? After youre epic failure at patching game (boot.ini? wow) and destroying pc's?
YOu guys really need to work on your public relations. And, figure out a way to notify people of your ever changing rules better. Maybe an eve mail? I dont read these forums ever except when im linked important info by my mates. Start doing your job..

not sure if that bug is related to it or not, but its a major POS warfare bug too: - Got a POS shot to reinforced yesterday, we had since hours people online that get mails when the POS is attacked - The Mail that the POS is under attack arrived with a 2 hour delay, at this time the POS was 5minutes away from reinforced mode and when we arrived it was just in time to see it going into reinforced mode. So basically it seems we will loose a POS just because we got the mail warning too late to change Strontium so the POS gets out of reinforced when we want it to.
Real bugger CCP :/

You cant do the rapid fire bug by accident. We shot a POS the day before yesterday and it had this bug, we shot it yesterday and the bug was gone.

Chill out everyone, why is everyone suprised when there is a huge patch that things go wrong? In what game does that NOT happen? Simmer, take a smoke break of your choice and play something else for a little if you can't deal.

umm i know of a games that has had a patch and not had this many mess ups Battlfield2142 for 1. So i think this is what ccp needs to do:
1: Stop haveing a contest each mo or patch they make to see who can come up with the worst thing to nerf.
2: Stop changeing things and get stuff fixed that needs fixed.
3: Stop playing eve them selfs and get to work fixing the problems and trying to think of what to make better {i mean mess up } next.
If these 3 things are done eve the game as a whole would be so much better
IMO

This was the correct interpretation, thank you. Sorry for the misunderstanding however, perhaps I should have worded it differently in the first place.

There is fixing something that needs fixed and nerfing something that doesnt need fixed all because a few cry babies cant deal with the fact they got killed or something doesnt go their way.
This would be a nerf: What was so wrong with the pos stront useage so what if it had a 5 - 6 day timer if u realy wanted to kill it u would wait 10 or 20 days or more if need be. There was noting here to fix but it got nerfed all because of the cry babies. I cant deal with a 6 day reinforced time its just too long for me to wait boo hoo hoo .
Thats the nerfing im talking about i could say something about the nos nerf and its cry babies but i think u get the point.
These are nerfs not fixes
A fix would be this: The jump bridges working like they were ment to.
Your drones not still being dumb and staying on a target until its dead, or atleast when they do kill a target thye dont just sit and wait until they are half killed befor attacking again.
These are fixes not nerfs

Edited by: Grey Area on 18/12/2007 15:10:30 Love the way devs drop something like this into the pot and then disappear. Not that POS warfare is ever likely to affect this 100% Empire Carebear, but still - from what I read this is a bug rather than an exploit, and therefore what the dev is REALLY saying is "please don't attack any starbases". I don't know if it's 100% of dreadnoughts that are affected.
I know developers are traditionally "twitchy" about handing out information on exploits, but in this case if it's something the game just DOES, rather than a long chain of events you have to perform to trigger the exploit, a little bit more information is surely warranted?
In fact...since the dev's post says "problem with a few Starbases"...that implies that the "exploit" may actually be something the starbase OWNER does...in which case, since it's now been deemed an "official" exploit...if someone were to figure out HOW to make their starbase trigger this "ROF:zero" effect...shouldn't THEY also be punished? I mean since attacking such a starbase has now been officially banned, haven't they just exploited the exploit status to get themselves a 100% indestructible starbase?
My head hurts. ---
I don't mind you disagreeing with me. Just don't say I don't have the SKILLS to comment. |

k, everyone go get a dread, we make the biggest dread blob ever and start shooting any and every starbase, one of two things will happen A) no more starbases to worry about bugs with B) every char that can fly a dread will be banned problem solved
