Complete and total rubbish from start to finish.
If this planet were indeed a mere few years away from earth it would be the brightest object in the sky besides the moon (and sun of course). Even if somehow it was not visible its gravitational effects would be noticed by now (Neptune was discovered because of its gravitational effects on the orbits of Saturn and Uranus and that was in 1846...they have much better equipment today).
There is no way such a massive object is in the inner solar system and undetected. Period. Full Stop. End of story.

Complete and total BS.
Considering we have records from 3600 years ago - they're not great, but still - and that the sky was one of the most important things around back then, if there really were such an event, we'd have a lot of info about it.

Yeah I'm sorry that was a weird tangent. I found this much more interesting video of an interview in the related items and forgot what the original video was.

Edited by: 7shining7one7 on 13/12/2007 10:28:39 i'll give my take on it from the info i've gathered on the subject.
nibiru was some kind of battle station, a planet hauled out of it's orbit for some reason, and formed a large eliptic orbit around our son, called planet of the crossing because it crossed from one solar system into another and functioned like a gateway planet. some sensationalist claims based in translation of sumerian tablets purport that it was used to carry a scouting/overseer base or whatever, according to zecharia sitchin the "gods of antiquity" called the annunaki (those who from heaven to earth came) lived on this station and would return every 3.6k years back in the sumerian days estimated to around 6000k bc. it apparently was responsible for destruction of one of the large primordial planets in our solar system, hence the huge asteroid belt our solar system, because it's orbit was in an inclination or how you say it..
it caused cataclysmic events when it returned from its orbit which is purported to have been 3.6k years, but could have been much longer.
it was apparently destroyed by another species during either war or a preemptive strike, after it's last passing through our solar system, so not to incur cataclysmic events again. it was also known as the nemesis comet or myrva, estimated in size about 6 times as big as the earth. and has been weither falsely or not, related to the extinction of the dinosaurs, and separation of the landmasses on earth aswell as basically shaving half of earth off with it's gravity pull in one of it's ancient passages into our solar system, which zecharia sitchin in his bias right or wrong, whatever it may be, offcourse claims accounts for the history of the great flood, so that earth climate changed (according to these claims the earth was originally about 3 times as large and had far more landmass, and was a tropic climate all over)
weither any of this is true or not is up to you to decide. fantastic story fantastic information, but interesting nonetheless.

I haven't a clue what this is about. There is supposed to be a planet, that can turn it's gravitational fields on or off in orbit in the inner solar system? It stopped the rotation of the Earth - any ideas how much energy is needed to stop the rotation, in under one hour - then spin it back up again? I want whatever they are smoking - and I want to use it to fuel my unobtanium reactor.

well if there hypothetically is such a sphere and it's 6 times as big as earth, or more, it's gravitational pull would quite suffice to do that should it come close enough. 6 times the size of earth is quite big.

to be frank about it, the ppl who talk about this has allways said 2012 with a few exceptions.
the 2003 part was a few people who said it would be visible in the sky in certain times in 2003. and fully visible to all in 2008.
anyways, up to people to decide. let's try keep the humor going

The ancient astronaught theory makes sense to me in all honesty. Who here playing Eve wouldn't want to find another Earth like planet? Currently we are actively searching for one, and as we are using our own as a template, should we find one we would want to go there, maybe to colonise or maybe just to take a look, it's human nature. Should we find that planet is inhabited with a less advanced species we might take a look around on the surface, do a few tests and leave after a while. From this perspective, another race doing the exact same thing and finding Earth as the planet like theirs and taking a look isn't too farfetched. Yea I know about the odds of life existing in close proximity in all 4 dimensions at once is extrodinarily slim, but some people are struck by lightning twice or win the lottery

late part of 2008, and undeniably so in all skies in mid and late 2009 according to the people who talk about it, so in the best scenario we get to call it a bunch of bollox and move on

pffft, pales in comparison to the theory i heard from a group of 'travellers' i met in india in my early 20's. their version was as follows: there is a place called Hel in iceland, which once had a pyrmadical society, where those at the top of this society practiced a unique version of the cycle of yin/yang. how can i put this ...certain swimmers of a personal note where ingested when the earths axis shifted this pyramidical society and their pyramid where buried. move forward a couple of thousand years, picture yourself in a room where everything, and i mean everything is fluoro. the 'travellers' every morning ingest said swimmers in imitation of their buried brothers, and await the coming earths axis shift, and the restoration of the pyramid to its former glory. the moral of this story is, next time you see someone mention the illuminati, think of these boys and predictions of the new age.

Well what can one say?
I suppose I could troll through the internet citing many previous cases of Doomsday Cults failing to be correct, find some prophecies of Nostrodamus and show that they are so vague that eventually something will happen that fits nicely. I could look back through tonnes of data gathered from rock, soil, Antarctic ice core's and the such that would reveal such an event never happened. I could link you a list of things that happened around the time this last supposedly happened but whats the point.
Well what can one say?
cuckoo cuckoo cuckoo cuckoo etc. etc. etc

If it is due in 2012 it is already easily close enough to see.
The Earth orbits at ~30 km/s. I will use that as a base speed for Planet-X although likely it is slower (the further out you are from the sun the slower you go...Saturn orbits at just under 10 km/s for example). Using 30 km/s is being generous to the doomsayers.
So, if Planet-X is due here in 2012 then at most it is currently 3,784,320,000 kilometers from Earth. Neptune is 4.3 billion kilometers from Earth so that puts Planet-X between Saturn and Neptune at the outside. In reality Planet-X would have to be moving much more slowly and thus likely be closer.
Granted that is vastly oversimplified but gives you a (very) rough estimate of what we are talking about. Another page I saw where they did real orbital calculations suggested that at 1 year away Planet-X would be 900 million kilometers away (between Jupiter and Saturn).
We can see those planets just fine. Heck, we can see Pluto which is waaaay out there and very small. We'd most definitely notice this coming. Even if telescopes did not spot Planet-X first it would perturb the orbits of the planets noticeably and tell people to start looking (as noted this is how they found Neptune in 1846...they can do the same thing today much more easily than they did then).
Oh, and to the bit about stopping the rotation of the Earth...NO F'ING WAY! You have got to be kidding. The energy necessary would be stupendous and frankly the planet would tear itself apart if done on that timescale. As it happens the Earth is slowing down its rotation. The moon is doing it to us (our days are getting longer by about 0.7 seconds/year due to this). Eventually the Earth will be tidally locked to the moon just as the moon is to us (that is the moon will forever seem to hang over one spot on the earth). Note both Earth and Moon will still be rotating.
Now the moon has a mass about 1/6 that of Earth and it is orbiting quite close (remember gravitational force falls off as the inverse square of distance so far away means weaker gravitational pull). Granted Planet-X is supposed to be much larger at 6x the size of the earth. So, even if we parked Planet-X in the same orbit as the moon there is no way it would stop the Earth in a day (and actually we would orbit Planet-X...not the other way around). Granted the effects would still be quite bad to the Earth at first (eventually everything would settle down but the change would cause havoc) but stop the Earth? Nope...not a chance. Not ever (we'd eventually become tidally locked to Planet-X if we stayed in orbit long enough).
Just another reason to show these fruitloops are out of their minds.
