Hi all,
I've just released a beta update that will allow EMMA to use the new style API keys. Assuming there are no problems reported, I'll be doing a regular release of the new version around the middle of next week.
Massive thanks to Lost Hamster for all his work converting the latest data dumps to work with EMMA and for his efforts getting the new API keys to work. |

Thanks, Ambo. I still haven't found a program that can do the things for me that EMMA does, so this is greatly appreciated. |

You can find the installer here: http://code.google.com/p/evemarketmonitorapp/downloads/list
This is not the latest version but will auto update on startup.
If you want to get the beta release, you need to go into settings -> updates (or something like that) and enable the option to get beta updates. |

The current version of EMMA will be maintained (especially with Lost Hamster helping!)
However, I've got no plans to add to it. Instead I'm currently working on a complete re-write with new features. This is a long way off though. |

Ideas? Which directory you could not find ? Appdata ? If yes, then please switch on the checkbox to see the hidden files as well. Because the AppData directory is a hidden directory.
I'm sure that the ExceptionLog.txt is at that place. |

Well the API uses HTTPS, which is usually port 443. Can't think of any others you might need. That said, the auto update is just regular HTTP so if that's not working then I guess the connection is being blocked for some other reason. |

The real revolution on EMMA will happen when it will drop that massive failure called MS SQL server. It's only good at filling in hard disks, creating security holes, requiring massively huge patches and eating lots of memory.

Just put out an update that upgrades the database to the latest static data dump from CCP - Thanks once again to Lost Hamster for converting it to work with EMMA.
Also, just read about the new 3rd party licenses (https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=84730&find=unread) and it seems that 3rd party developers will still not be allowed to charge real money for their work. Understandable but somewhat frustrating from my point of view.
I'm going to carry on working on EMMA 2.0 because I've enjoyed if and I've learnt a lot doing it. However, I will have less motivation to spend time on it so it's not going to be around any time soon - I'm expecting at least 6 months to a year. If ever.
Still, the CREST stuff looks very interesting so by the time I get that far down the line it may well require a complete redesign to make use of the new cool stuff anyway. :)

Greetings fellow Warlords:
I have many problems. And yes, IGÇÖm getting counseling. But perhaps you can help as well.
Why is C:\Documents and Settings\user\Application Data\EMMA\logging\Exceptionlog.txt Actually file:///C:/Documents%20and%20Settings/user/Application%20Data/EMMA/logging/Exceptionlog.txt
Inner Exception: A network-related or GÇ£instance-specific errorGÇ¥ occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. The server was not found or was not accessible. What is an GÇ£instance-specific error?GÇ¥
How do I find out what instance name is? Or if it is correct?
How do I configure SQL server to allow remote conflicts?
Why did I go to GÇ£SQL Server Configuration and enable everything in Protocols for MSSQLSERVER? (and why didnGÇÖt it work?)
And last but not least, how do I fix the problem so that I can log on?
Thanks,

Hi Peri,
Obviously this is some sort of problem that EMMA is having connecting to SQL and there are many possible causes and solutions.
I'm afraid I can't give you a specific thing that will fix it but perhaps this will help: http://www.sqlmusings.com/2009/03/11/resolving-a-network-related-or-instance-specific-error-occurred-while-establishing-a-connection-to-sql-server/
Otherwise, just old fashioned googling and trying things is the way to go. Sorry I can't be more helpful! |

Try deleting the instance data folder. It's something like %appdata%/Microsoft/Microsoft SQL server/SQLEXPRESS that will usually fix this problem. |

Thanks for getting at me. I put in the key and managed to update all the files through the updater. I'm still getting these persistent errors, however:

Judging from how quickly the errors happen I would gander that your code is assuming I have a very low latency and is timing out the connections if they don't get a more or less instant answer. Unfortunately, I'm running a horribly high latency connection.
If I am correct, is there any way to extend the time that it is looking for the api connection? If I am not correct, what else should I be doing? Thanks.

Go to where you installed (probably somthing like C:\program files\emma) and open 'EveMarketMonitorApp.exe.config' in notepad.
Find this setting: setting name="SkipConnectionCheck"
and change the value to 'True' That will skip the checks, not sure if the rest of the system will work or not if you have unusually high latency |

I get that error a lot when trying to do various things. I also keep running into a problem where Emma will say that the Eve api is down and thus basically not let me do anything once the program loads. I can ping api.eveonline.com just fine from my computer.

(the XML error at the end repeats like 1000 times)
I've turned off my firewall and tried to boot it with no luck. I got fewer errors when trying it from my laptop at a coffee shop (with better internet) and still got the error about eve-central.com which was puzzling. I should add that while I got errors last night, Emma was still able to access the eve api and thus allow me to do things. |

Not to add to your work, but the field code for typeID was coded as int16 in EMMA. CCP, in their infinite wisdom, has added items with typeIDs greater than 32787 to the game, so it is throwing an error. Any chance of a fix?

706 is SQL 2012, 655 is 2008 r2. If the database is 706 then something must have upgraded it. Did you open it in 2012 to see what was in there or something like that?

There are a ton of results online if you search for this error. Unfortunately, there are also a ton of possible causes. Try this one to start: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/281500/error-failed-to-generate-a-user-instance-of-sql-server |

I apologize if this is a somewhat noobish thing to ask, but I am going to ask it anyways.
I am using Emma 1.6.0.8 (trial at this point), and have run into an issue where Emma seems to have lost data regarding the average buy price for several of my previously purchased items. I'm guessing that is the issue as the Item report lists the data for several of the items as greyed out (or some other very light color).
Am I missing something basic here? If not, and it appears that there is an issue with the data, is there an easy way to force EMMA to reload all the trading information from APi? I'd like to use this tool, but it is of limited use if the data isn't valid. |

No problem, the only foolish question is one unasked.
The colours used in the reports are defined in settings -> report style settings. So light grey could mean all sorts of things depending on how that's been configured.
There is no default for light grey. The only one I can think you might mean is the default 'warning value' colour. Which is a yellow colour (it looks light on the report, less so in settings but it IS the same colour ;))
The warning that it is giving you is simply that your average buy price (i.e. the cost of items bought in the report period) is more than 5% higher than the 'cost of units sold'. So it's just indicating that your buy price for that item is increasing.
e.g. You buy 10 things for 5 isk on 1st Jan. You then sell those 10 things for 20 isk on 1st Feb and buy 10 more things for 10 isk. If you run a report for Feb, your cost of units sold will be 5 isk but your average buy price will be 10 isk - leading to this warning.
Hope that helps. |

Your assuming its a windows 8 problem, I'm assuming it's a difference between 2008 express and 2012 express. Can't run 2008 on windows 8, but you can run 2012 on windows 7. Can you atleast upgrade that? Its free? |

It might be to do with SQL 2012. The problem with that is that I'm not going to update EMMA to work with 2012. Last time it was a massive pita for most of my users and some never actually got their SQL installs working again.
The SQL express upgrade process is notoriously terrible.
So I'd have to upgrade my machine to 2012 to look at this one problem then trust that the uninstall back to 2008 will work properly. Frankly I have no faith whatsoever in that working.
So yes, I'm sorry but I can't do anything for you right now. |

A few people have been having problems since CCP turned off HTTP access. To fix this, you just need to click through the error messages on startup, go to settings -> api settings and edit the base url there to be HTTPS instead of HTTP.
Should just work after that. |

The 64 bit version of SQL Express has a bug that will mean EMMA will probably fail to run first time. The error will be somthing like 'CLR integration not enabled'. To fix this, simply restart Windows. |

I have just installed an evaluation SQL 2012, and it is working fine with EMMA, when you are using differently to connect to the SQL DB. Basically tha basic EMMA is using USER instance to run the SQL DB, with this change you are eliminating the user instance. It's an "advanced" connection mode.
In SQL management console attach the two SQL database to the server. (EMMADatabase and EveData)
Then you need to edit the EveMarketMonitorApp.exe.config file.
Look for this lines bellow, and change them to look like this:
add name="EveMarketMonitorApp.Properties.Settings.EMMA_DatabaseConnectionString" connectionString="Data Source=COMPUTERNAME;database=EMMADatabase;Trusted_Connection=yes" providerName="System.Data.SqlClient"
add name="EveMarketMonitorApp.Properties.Settings.ebs_DATADUMPConnectionString" connectionString="Data Source=COMPUTERNAME;database=EveData;;Integrated Security=True" providerName="System.Data.SqlClient"
When this changes are done, it should work like charm (If you can set it up).

Just put version 1.6.1.0 out.
This has a few fixes for little problems (main one being that item filters on various screens had been broken since CCP changed to 32 bit IDs for items) The static data has also been updated to the latest retribution release (thanks to Lost Hamster for that one) Finally, I've added a feature to export your data to Eve API format XML. It doesn't export everything yet, it's a work-in-progress. (The intention is that this will be used to export your data from EMMA 1.6 to EMMA 2 when I finally get that finished.) |

Just released a beta update 1.6.1.2 This just adds the Industry jobs data to the XML export.
If anyone has a decent amount of data for industry jobs and wouldn't mind sharing then I'd really appreciate getting a copy of your XML file after doing an export. I'm currently doing some performance testing of EMMA 2. I have hundreds of thousands of transactions and journal entries to test the import with. However, I never really got into industry and have a grand total of one industry job. Not great for load testing.
To get the beta update, make sure it's checking for beta updates (settings -> other settings -> check for beta updates) To export, simply click the export button, then ok, then choose the directory to export to. EMMA will appear to hang as there is no progress window or anything yet. However, it will be working away in the background and after a few minutes (depending on how much data you have) it should be done. (You can still do other stuff on your computer while it's doing this)
Once it's done, just zip it up and email it to me: [email protected]
Thanks in advance!

Aye same here ambo.
After a VERRY long trade break i have dived back into it.Kinda killed my good laptop with cheap ass whine on new years eve so stuck with the old laptop.Figured i'd try trade again and as usuall means i don't do it small either.
So downloaded EMMA and as i was afraid i had problems with the SQL so ended up deleting it again.Though i can say when i used to use EMMA years back i found it one of the best tools for my tradestyle.

Without some error details it's hard to say.. Maybe a permissions issue? Try right clicking and running as admin.
Edit: wait a min, it's probably just that it's a hidden folder. Try typing %appdata% in the run box in the start menu. Then navigate to the right folder from there. Then we should at least be able to see the error. |

Yeah, that's fine. If it's still too big then you can just post the most recent (i.e. bottom) exception report. If it can't start the SQL service then we'll have to figure out why that's happening. Try looking in control panel -> System and security -> administrative tools -> event viewer.
Go into windows logs -> application. Hopefully there will be some error logs with more detail from the sql service.

try checking that the service actually exists. Go to the run prompt and type 'services' to start the services config app. Scroll down until you find a service called 'SQL Server (SQLEXPRESS)' If it's not there than that's your problem. If it is there then I'm not sure what to suggest beyond reinstalling SQL Express. |

1.6.1.3 is now available. EMMA will pick it up when you next start it.
This fixes the eve-central problem (the issue was that, at some point in the past, eve-central was configured not to respond to pings. This lead EMMA to believe it was down, so it wasn't used. Now it all works correctly again.) |

I released 1.6.1.4 yesterday. This has the updated retribution 1.1.1 data. This would have been several hours before your post though so let me know if it's still a problem. Also, can you post your database version (found in the 'about' screen).

I'll see if I can get a new installer up, 1.5 is really old. (Released July 2010 apparently) That said, there is no reason for it to fail to update. I'll try it myself later this evening to see if I can figure out what's going wrong. |

Absolutely. You will probably need to modify the connection string in app.config though. If that's Greek to you then let me know and I'll give some more detailed instructions. |

I was having that problem then did this..

In that folder was SQLExpress I made a backpack copy of it somewhere then deleted it. After that I ran EMMA then it remade the SQL express folder there and allowed me to continue to the patching..

Check the readme. It's done automatically but there is a bug in the 64 bit version of SQL server that means you have to restart the PC before the change will take effect. |

I guess there must be some software on your machine interfering with the download. (e.g. firewall or some other security software). Try temporarily disabling anything like that.

Version 1.6.3.0 is up.
Recently, I had reason to do a little bit of trading again and found the Item Detail screen lacked what seemed some fairly obvious features:
- The 'Create red placeholder orders' option now works. I've also added a slight variation so you can either have placeholders for all missing item/char/corp combinations or just any missing items. e.g. There is a station I use 2 chars to sell in. I don't want to show missing sell orders for any item/char combination, only those where I am missing a sell order for a particular item, regardless of character.
- Added a 'Percentage complete' column to buy and sell orders. This is sortable. The main idea is that you can easily see which sell orders might need restocking soon and manage your supply chain appropriately.
- Added a 'Local stock' column to sell orders. This shows how many of that item you have knocking around in the station the order is in. I didn't have an easy way to exclude stuff fitted to ships so it excludes any single items. (This means that things like ammo in ships is still counted... not great I know but better than nothing)
- Added a 'Buy order exists' column to sell orders. This simply indicates if you have a buy order up for the same item anywhere.
EMMA 2 is coming along but very, painfully, slowly due to RL. Still hoping to have an alpha release at some point this year but we'll have to wait and see. |

In particular Quote:You need the SQL Native Client before you can install the SQL SMO. Doing both of these installs did work for me, because I no longer got the following error
So it sounds like a bit of SQL is missing. Try uninstall and reinstall.
Looks like something on either the .NET or SQL side is missing.
.NET is less of a headache to reinstall so I'd try that first. (EMMA uses .NET 3.5) If you still have problems then I'm afraid it's time to try uninstall and reinstall of SQL express 2008 R2. |
