It depends... if you don't use network drives at all (I do), if you don't copy large quantities of data (again, I do), if you don't care about any sort of DRM'd content (iffy), if you have all vista-supported hardware (problematic for many), if you don't mind programs taking 20-50% longer to load (yes I've timed them) - then Vista is just fine.
Personally, I'll take XP until Vista SP2 arrives - by then my 32-core P8 with 64GB of RAM will run it just as well as XP.
I used network drives ( with Vista ), I copy large quantities of data ( again, with Vista ), all my hardware is supported by Vista, my programs don't take 20-50% longer to load. I changed the settings.

The only people who ever complain about vista EVER are the people who don't buy it cause they believe what everyone who doesn't have it says about it. Anyone who has bought Vista knows that it is fine and runs really well with very few problems (no more than xp has). If you wanna wait a year to get it then go for it but seems a bit pointless to me as everyone will get it in the end.
I would have to say yes on the people that complain part (some of you have tried it and failed) but xp is way more stable than vista, vista has way to many sucurity issues and incompatible compatibility layers.
XP way more stable? What mysteriously unstable version of Vista did you get your hands on? I've been using Vista since Beta 2 and it's been rock solid. Better than XP is now and MUCH better than XP was at launch.

1) I use network drives all the time. My brother copied his entire DVD collection (something like 60 movies) and I play them on various other computers in the house, including through my Xbox. No problem there.
2) I do move large quantities of data (see above). No problems there, either.
3) The DRM stuff hasn't bothered me yet.
4) All my stuff is Vista supported since my computer is recent. No problem getting a driver for my 3 year old Canon printer, though.
5) My programs load faster under Vista than they ever did under XP. I dual booted XP and Vista together for about 3 months before finally wiping out XP and switching to Vista 100%. Vista is definitely faster on my machine.
I agree that there is no sense in upgrading a current XP machine to Vista, but if you're getting a new rig there's little reason not to switch to Vista.

Some of my games i play on xp didnt work for vista so i put them in administrator mode and now they work. I still have no problems.
you know.....i never tried that. i should try it. i think ill have time before the game is up to reinstall vista, find out it doesnt work, then reinstall xp again
Cool, im going to try it on my laptop cause i havnt done that yet, other people can just go suck them selves for not getting compatoble hardware.

I downloaded and installed update, it now says "Your EVE client installation may have been modified, damaged or corrupt files. Please re-install the game client. Vertification failed: "C:\Program Files\CCP\EVE\eve.exe",crc:45445a9e, expected:decac008."
Well I was about to reinstall from the file I had before when I remembered it was the one with the boot.ini problem. Sigh, gotta download 1 gig again before I can try again.

Yes, I find the off-topic Vista and XP debate very interesting, especially since everyone's saying 'My XP runs faster' or 'NO! My Vista runs faster' but we have yet to see any benchmarks or any real numbers, for that matter.
The spam is also fun.

You dont have to re-download the eve client if you already have the install file. just install it. The problem with the deletion of boot.ini is not an install issue but was a patch issue. and I beleive that that has been resolved so updates are ok.
