Tranquility will undergo an extended downtime on Tuesday, 18 December. The start time is 1100 GMT and the length of the downtime is expected to be four hours. During this time, a patch will be applied to Trinity consisting of fixes and improvements.
Patch Notes will be available shortly. Updates to the notes will be added over the weekend as more items are cleared through the Quality Assurance process. These updates will be highlighted with green text.
Please note: Training a long learning duration skill ending after the scheduled return to service is recommended.

I'm sorry, but that is NOT funny. Some1 made a mistake (a single extra keystroke, mind you) and CCP has owned up to it. We need to move on. Besides, the CORRECT fixes (ie not reinstalling your ENTIRE operating system) are fast and non-destructive.

I am just so thankfull that I took an extra backup (on a whim) just before applying the Trinty stuff. I normally only take backups monthly... will I take a backup before the next patch? Yep. You bet. Nothing personal against CCP, its just "once bitten twice shy".
I suspect the real reason for this patch is so they can remove the notice to all users who took the .0 patch (the big trinity patch) as the .01 patch will supercede it

Doesn't matter if it's a keystroke or 10. It was a severe mistake, with universe-wide consequences, a bump down in trust, and YOU are the one who should respect other people's losses. As far as your brown-nosing goes, that's typical of low life forms.

Quote: Corporation mails are no longer sent to all members with a title.
This is a bit unclear. Corporation mails as in internal communications in the corp mail section of the eve mail window or mails sent to corporations like office bills? Also, are said mails no longer sent or are they only sent to the proper recipients? I'm assuming the latter in both cases, but the note isn't clear about it.

Thats the jumping of the target title from the target to another location on screen, together with distant asteroids or structures, at roughly 10fps, when lots of activity on screen. Might be related to mouse button use. Happens often in missions and is highly disturbing and disorienting.
Nice last line btw.

Originally by: Bob Niac I am stating a FACT. it takes all of 30 minutes and half a brain to access a dead system. Less time if you are prepared. For more info read this thread and my post here.
No, you're stating a LIE. The typical end-user system nowadays has a recovery partition, so the ONLY thing the user can do is to replace his complete installation with the supplier's image. (But that's easy, just one Recovery button to press...)
And even if there was a XP CD in the box---I've got an OEM XP CD here that has the recovery console disabled. Have fun reparing your boot.ini with that CD...
---
But to stay halfway on topic: Dear DEVs, it seems very unclear at the moment what bugs are accepted as bugs by you---and what bugs we need to spam more bug reports for. Maybe you could create a page listing all (non-exploitable) problems that were introduced with trinity and their status (need-more-bugreports, cause-identifyed, will-be-in-next-patch)...

Read the thread
How about this thread: http://oldforums.eveonline.com/?a=topic&threadID=651459
The issue is that it is *not* addressed in the patch notes, and it needs to be, as many players have lost millions or billions in implants due to clone jumping. These players are now afraid to jump again out of fear of losing even more implants (with their initial reimbursement petitions overdue for a reply). Players who lost implants were told to not buy new ones - so they are stuck training at a slower rate, waiting on reimbursement.
The fix that everyone is waiting for in order to become "unstuck" is the fix that remains strangely absent...
16 pages of posts in 1 weeks time, with no "it's ok to jump, guys" from CCP. Now the first post-trinity patch and *still* no word on this significant issue.
I realize there is other stuff to fix, but how about prioritizing things a bit, eh? I thought 'stuck' was supposed to get priority.

Yes, please!
Also, right-clicking a blueprint and starting a manufacturing job from a corp hangar ends up with the number 1 hangar preselected by default. This is annoying and creates extra click-work when setting builds from any of the other hangars. Will this be fixed in the patch?

Originally by: Captain Campion where are custom windowed resolutions?
Create that resolution as an option in your windows settings. If windows sees that as an option it also appears in Eve. (Thus it can be anything you want).
Quote: This is a bit unclear. Corporation mails as in internal communications in the corp mail section of the eve mail window or mails sent to corporations like office bills? Also, are said mails no longer sent or are they only sent to the proper recipients? I'm assuming the latter in both cases, but the note isn't clear about it.
Since trinity all members with a title (any title at all) have been getting all offical corp mails (new member applications etc), those are supposed to be only sent to users with relevant roles. - this fixes that.
Quote: Also, right-clicking a blueprint and starting a manufacturing job from a corp hangar ends up with the number 1 hangar preselected by default.
On the bright side when you select the installation it no longer 'resets' the chosen input/output. But yeah, having them default to the same hangar as the BP again would be great.
Contract creation needs looking at too though, if you select the items then right click > create contract, it doesn't have any of them selected.

I think adding different textures/colors to asteroids is a marvelous idea. Would add to the aesthetic diversity, as well as another touch of realism (all asteroids are not spherical and are not all brown in real space).
And bump to the laser animation fixes/menu fixes, as well.

Fix the gamemechanics first, remove Lag, then make things look nice. Trinity sofar has made the game unplayable, reduced performance but well, I have to admit, it does look nice... Nice going CCP!

Double-clicking the top bar of the over-view closes said over-view. Just like a single-click used to do. Another double-click reopens the overview and corrects any visual issues. Just like a single-click previously did.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
What I'd really like to see is the courier missions actualy get fixed. The Trinity patch notes said that gang completion for courier missions would be possiable. For most such missions it still simply isn't.
Also, where are the "green text" notes that were suppose to be added over the weekend? Did nothing new pass QA?
Other things that would be lovely: My chat windows staying where I leave them when closing/lauching the eve client. The drone, fleet, and broadcast windows staying grouped togather after changing size, and staying where I last left them between fleets. Getting multiable "eve voice" notifications when the fleet boss kicks in fleet voice channels is also a bit annoying.
Ah well, thats enough gripe'n for one post I think. Thanks for all yer hard work CCP.
**EDIT** Oh I forgot to metion... Mining Missions: I've never once used a mining drone in these as I use combat drones for the rats. Yet I'm still having to petition nearly everyone of them in order to complete the mission. I'm sure yer GM's love hearing from me, but maybe its time to give 'em a break and fix this too, eh? |

Some'at wrong with your hardware, dude. My 7900 GS runs at about the same FPS. Well it did. Having just upgraded CPU from AMD4000+ to AMD 2x6400+ it now runs even faster.
80fps undocking, 160fps warping and in most missions rarely drops below 40fps. Only oddity I've noticed is that the cloud affects seem to **** it off royally. Guristas Spies dropped me down below 20fps until I swung the camera view away to look at a cloud-free area. -- (Battle hardened industrialist)

As promised, the following items have been added to the patch notes. Yes, the Jump Clone Implant issue has been resolved as a part of the patch.
- Drones no longer instantly recharge their shields when recalled to the drone bay
- A rare case where a jump clone would lose its implants after a jump has been resolved.
- A situation where modules requiring a specific sovereignty level would break a starbase on system load has been fixed (hotfixed)
- The name change of the reactor arrays that occured in the Trinity release broke all existing connected Starbase structures. This was resolved as part of a hotfix.
- The cause of the starbase shield reset at downtime has been found and resolved as part of a hotfix.
- An error that was preventing the Cynosural System Jammer from operating correctly has been resolved as part of a hotfix.
- Damaged control towers will no longer cause problems with the loading of a Starbase while the solarsystem is loading.
- Numerous serverside errors have been resolved. These will have no visible in game effect, but server-side performance has improved.
- Several issues with display and animation of mining lasers and strip miners have been fixed.
- The cloaking effect has been tweaked in the Premium Graphics Content client.
- Gallente ships have been recoloured slightly and are no longer as blue as before.
- Account names with unicode characters are now fully supported.

I think they should be ordered to attack cargo containers left around the jump gates. Isn't dumping several cargo containers in the area with recruitment notices a form of spam? Especially since there are other recruitment tool already in place?

Hello all!
The latest patch notes state that "Drones will no longer instantly recharge ......", but I seem to have just the opposite problem. When drones are in the drone bay, they don't seem to recharge at all ?? Yesterday I was on a mission in my Drake, and a couple of drones suffered minor shield damage. I changed ships, and went salvaging/looting for some time, went back. Changed ships again, this time to my Osprey, then I went mining, and after about an hour or so, I changed back to my Drake for another mission. To my surprise, the drones where not recharged, in fact it looked as if their state had not changed at all. When leaving them in space, they started recharging again......
Anybody else observing that behaviour ??

I didnt see a mention of a fix for splash and crash bugs?
I've got an open bug logged (47818) which has been attached to a defect (whatever that means?) by the bug hunting team. I've asked for more information but non has been forth coming so far. This may or mat not be the right place to bring this up but its rather annoying up grading to a machine that is more than capable of running Trinity but not being able to play it due to crashing out before the client is launched.
Will there be a fix going in or is it only a problem local to my machine. Some advice as to what to do next would be appreciated.

At least thats how I believe it goes. :P

Why upgrade the sound engine then limit us to software sound?
Unless they've been busy adding support for OpenAL then, no, the hardware sound will not be working in Vista.
It was Microsoft that broke it by removing DirectSound support in Vista.

How will Corp evemails work now? Who will get the Corp evemail?...everyone?...nobody?

I wish you would put a message in game or on the launcher somewhere a day or two before you patch the servers. It get's really annoying when you miss the news cause you dont look at the website all the time and dont set a skill to go while the server is down.

It's been up for 2-3 days on the character selection screen. Take 5 seconds to scan the headlines before you log in and you will be much more in the loop.

I tend to not read the "headlines" either. If they want to put real information I need to know in there, they need to take out the ******** storyline crap that nobody wants to read. I knew about this mess from corp chat, but in this guy's defense, the daily server downtime message should have said the server would be down for several hours. It said 1 hour, just like always.

The thing is, skills are the most vital thing about this game and the thing which stops running when you stop paying. If the server is going to be down for longer than expected it should be made VERY clear that it is going down. Not just a message in the news thing on login which I rarely read cause a) it is full of useless, meningless information most of the time unless you are a roleplayer and b) I normally just click my character straight away cause I wanna log in and play not read through pointless news items to find the one which is absolutely vital to my skills getting done.
It is not much to ask to be slightly better informed when this is going to happen imo.

ōIt was Microsoft that broke it by removing DirectSound support in Vista.ö No it was CCP. Blaming Microsoft is just the lazy and easy solution.
All my other directsound games work in Vista via OpenAL and Eve did its self for over 6 months. CCP decided to announced a new sound engine thatĘs better then the old one and at the same time stopped hardware sound. Its wrong to announced a giant leap forward while your really making a giant step backwards.
It was CCP that stopped DirectSound in Vista working not Microsoft. CCP stopped us using directsound via OpenAL not Microsoft. Why blame Microsoft?
WhatĘs really irritating is itĘs a simple fix for CCP to do. They could let us use OpenAL again which is 10mins worth of work if that. All they need to do is white list 2 files which they put a ban on for no apparent reason. If there was a reason to ban useing OpenAL for hardware sound can they give it?

No.. Microsoft is broke. Any OS that demands the use of an anti-virus, anti-spam, etc... Just to be able to browse the web in some safety if broken. Not to mention the registry which is defective by design and is the largest single point of failure in any modern operating system. It has flaws in it that have existed since Windows 3.11 that haven't been addressed or repaired. It is a resource hog extroidinaire. Windows also has some of the WORST memory management known to man. So please before you go blaming CCP for sound problems take a good hard look at the broken OS and tools they chose to use and work with... i.e. Microsoft.

Hell, I'm still waiting for XP to work right. Win2k pro is still on all of my machines. Why? Because nothing that came after win2k pro provided ANY improvement in performance. XP and vista are just eye candy at twice the price. Yeah .. now there's vista only directX 10, but imo... they can keep it.

I play very inconsistently, and I knew about this well in advance. Take 30 seconds to read the titles of the headlines, you don't need to read the storyline if you don't want to. I can't believe you're complaining about lack of notice when it's thrust in your face like it is. What do you suggest they do to make it more obvious? A personal phone call? Should they black out the screen and flash it for 30 seconds on startup?
Take some responsibility.

Implant Fix, lmao thats a laugh, Ive personaly lost 3 lots of implants using jump clones, and yes I know how to use them. All 3 events have been issues where the server has not updated logs or something and ive been returned to stations of which i should not have been etc. Im sure u all know the story. Each time you petittion and u get a nice helpful GM saying sorry be more careful we have no log of the loss occouring etc.
So now I no longer use implants or jump clones. As im wasting more isk buying them than I am losing ships.
All the best with the Fixes CCP, but please make sure there fixed.

Have you morons never been through a patch before? Set a long skill, go do something else for a while.
If you set a skill to end at 15:01 I've got no sympathy for you.

Why oh why do they have to put it back again, I am in Sydney, Australia and it is 3:11am here. Just to play on this game with a decent amount of people on I need to be up this early but when they start stuffing us around like this. It almost makes me want to go back to WoW. maybe when this happens CCP can start giving out gifts based on skillpoints...like, I could sure use one of those shinny new Murauders That would make me feel better about a 30 minute longer wait time..
Welp, this opens a fine oppertunity to run down to the pub for a lunchtime beer.

Simple as that.
No, it's not on the server yet so another 3 minutes 'till we can actually download and play.
Funny, it said 10.1mb for me (10423kb).
Haha, you only get half a patch!

It is Microsoft's fault simply because Microsoft is defective by design. They can never standardize on anything. Look at their Office Doc formats, DX 10 and 10.1, etc... They make their own rules and ignore industry standards, recent example is the proposed rush adoption of their Office XML format through ISO which failed miserably. For that matter the bastardization of kerberos and SMB in their network stacks. Yet another is the wonderful hack job they did to break TCP/IP in Windows 9x! They used the BSD IP stack and butchered it. I don't care to go on any further. If you wish go research some of this and you will see yourself.

Well, I have to say that Vista can be faster then XP, however you can't expect XP/Vista to match up on identical hardware. with my system I must say that vista is indeed very fast, i can boot in and get online faster then with XP... but there are some things that hinder performance and can cause this to chage... ie: Dreamscene, Sidebar, AeroGlass... again it just depends on your settings. Aeroglass doesn't seem to slow things down but the sidebar can if you loadenough crap into it, and lets not even talk about dreamscene.

Incompatible compatibility layers... hmm.
Sure it's not as stable, since it's newer. And as far as compatibility goes, you don't make an OS for apps, you make apps for an OS.

XP way more stable? What mysteriously unstable version of Vista did you get your hands on? I've been using Vista since Beta 2 and it's been rock solid. Better than XP is now and MUCH better than XP was at launch.

Indeed they have dropped the ball on some of the driver issues... I will give you that. but most of these problems come when you deviate from the default Windows drivers... I can't tell you how many times i'd be playing eve and have CCC crash mid-game... but did it stutter, did it blue screen? no! vista poped up a bubble saying "Your video card driver has stopped responding, you are now using vista basic graphics mode and default drivers until windows can restore your driver status..."

Eve Online Anonymous: We meet once a week and talk about our addiction to Eve (or is it Adam?) and how it has ruined our careers, family and friends. As with most addictions there is no cure for this disease, but support from fellow suffers can see you through those dark times, and help you regain your shattered life.
Withdrawal is hard, we are here to help.

Originally by: Roman Lynch tbh, i didnt even know the server was going down and a patch was comming out.
but now that i cant log in <insert typical whine here>
and for those of you that swear by vista.......i never could get it to work right with my games, any games, so i went back to XP....and they all work fine now
Ironic, cause I had almost the exact opposite experience. ALL of my games work great on Vista, even Homeworld 2, which was released 4 years ago and lists 'Windows 98' on its system requirements.

1) I use network drives all the time. My brother copied his entire DVD collection (something like 60 movies) and I play them on various other computers in the house, including through my Xbox. No problem there.
2) I do move large quantities of data (see above). No problems there, either.
3) The DRM stuff hasn't bothered me yet.
4) All my stuff is Vista supported since my computer is recent. No problem getting a driver for my 3 year old Canon printer, though.
5) My programs load faster under Vista than they ever did under XP. I dual booted XP and Vista together for about 3 months before finally wiping out XP and switching to Vista 100%. Vista is definitely faster on my machine.
I agree that there is no sense in upgrading a current XP machine to Vista, but if you're getting a new rig there's little reason not to switch to Vista.

You dont have to re-download the eve client if you already have the install file. just install it. The problem with the deletion of boot.ini is not an install issue but was a patch issue. and I beleive that that has been resolved so updates are ok.

navigate to c:\ and make a copy of bootsect and boot.ini store it on a flash drive or something, install that version then copy back over the files that were deleted (on order to o this file copy you'd need to show hidden and show protected system files...

I do fear i will have to disagree with most of what were said there..
When it comes to Vista there is fare to many problems.. One of the key problems of Vista is how much of an system ***** (excuse the language please) it is.. For ex sample just take Ram uses.. Windows Xp can run smoothly at 512mb (thats what i am running it on atm) But Vista takes at easily Swallows 1gb of ram on its own. and THEN it don't even run smoothly.. (And before the flaming and such starts.. Let me just add that i DO know what i am talking about.. My Job is as an Administrative Server Supporter. Which means i has to be on top of these tings.. And i have run Multiple Test on both Xp and Vista to see what i should advice my company to use for its Employee Pc's)

ōIt is Microsoft's fault simply because Microsoft is defective by design.ö As I said before how is it Microsoft's fault that CCP stopped us having hardware sound via OpenAL? Microsoft have nothing to do with OpenAL and nothing to do with the CCP patch which removed hardware sound.
ōLOL. I agree with this. My XP system still outdoes Vista anyday/anytime/any gameö Can your XP have all the lights, fans harddisk, CPU e.c.t off then on and in the desktop loading up outlook and reading mail in under 5 seconds. I dont think so, Vista can.

Not trying to be harsh or anything, but you know, Windows 3.11 uses less resources than Windows XP. So it has to be better, right? I don't think the fact that Vista eats up more resources than XP is valid point. Sure, it does eat more than it should, but you can fix some of that by actually changing some of the system settings and cutting up on the useless stuff. [Disclaimer: Some exageration exists, but the point is the same. ]
You can't just bash Vista because it has more bugs than XP in it. XP had more bugs than its predecessor when it came out, too.
And bashing Vista or Microsoft does not make anyone cooler. Unless they can make their own OS. Then I would consider them cool.

1) Business computers are in their own special group that I wasn't even discussing here
2) If you buy a computer today that doesn't have at least 1GB of ram in it, whether it has XP or Vista, then you deserve to be shot. Vista ran plenty smooth on my laptop which only has 1GB of RAM in it.
That said, we've obviously, for some reason or another, had drastically different experiences with Vista. As such, this debate will go nowhere so I propose a respectful end to this conversation.

Ok why is it everytime there is an upgrade it corupts my files and I have to reinstall. Why not just have us all reinstall from the beginning and save sometime.
Obviously there is something broken in the release method.

Even more frustrating is that after waiting for the download and the file to upgrade itself and it didn't work, now I get the pleasure of waiting for a 1.1G file to download. Oh joy. If this keeps up, my having to reinstall after every patch I think I am going to go back to WoW or EQ at least they have this working correctly.
Come on guys get it working.
Ok how about an option to JUST download the files that you think are corrupted instead of the whole freaking thing.
First you blow away my system files, now for about the 10th time I get to download the whole client again... Thanks.

Wow...if you've seriously had to download the client 10 times, why do you bother deleting the executable? Heck, I still have the full WoW installer on my hard drive and my WoW account hasn't been active for over a year...

It appears this patch messed up the UI. On a session change the chatboxes inside the chat windows (if that makes sense) will resize. Great. If you have that "Merge "Items" and "Ships" in the station bar" or whatever it says option checked, whenever you change ships the ships and items tabs will be blank, like this http://xs222.xs.to/xs222/07512/ships.jpg
But hey, JUMPBRIDGES! Sig removed, lacks Eve-related content. If you would like further details please mail [email protected] - Cortes |

Read above, the update corrupts my files prints out a big list of files that don't match it's internal checksum. Then it proceeds to UPDATE the client anyway. I guess I could use an OLD install. But then that would cause me to REINSTALL hence repeating the insanity that I am talking about. But thanks for your sage advice so that I could sit in an endless loop of using old client installs in order to download the update in order to have it corrupt my client. Hmm? Now does that make sense?
I am not happy about the continual slipshod installs that this game continually does. It's no wonder it hasn't climbed out of the pit of almost no one knowing what it is. 300K users? Even EQ still has more than that and they have been losing users..
Get with the program hire some good engineers. Maybe open a shop in the US or India or the Ukraine and get some talent on the job....

Hmm I experience 2 new error since patch.
1. Market dont work "Fetching Orders", and nothing more. 2. Warp tunnel animation starts the instance you give order of warp, disregarding the direction of the ship given to the heading.

I must be unique in that I had no issues downloading or installing the patch.
Client restarted fine and all goes well until I enter warp.. The warp animation starts instantly, while your ship is still aligning.
It's not a crippling bug, but..........

For some reason warping now looks different than before the patch - in fact worse. Like the textures of the "warp tunnel" are now less transparent than before, making the ends look kinda strange.... !?

Well, I must say I commend your guys for doing something about the strip/ice miner visuals....They are much better, but still - no cigar. Also the tractor beam visuals suck.
The classic content still blows the "high graphical" content in the weeds....ya still have not given me reason to use premium content so I am still using classic till I see an improvement to premium over classic.
I also am still getting 2 corp content windows opening when I enter stations.....have to close one every time i enter, the login screen still takes up the whole screen and has no drop-down box to join in any test servers as the previous login did.....very sloppy.
Why cant you guys just take the content from the classic miners and put in premium? I fail to see the problem you are having with the content.....are the guys just lazy or what?
Also I have the classic to premium update but I had to use the online login update as ythe dl one says I dont have hd space available when I have 250 gig open.

I was having the same thing last night. Today though all appears well. It's going to be one of two things.
1) Either the software suddenly needed a reboot of the PC to work properly, which I find unlikely. 2) If you're on Tiscali, like I am, they could have been blocking the port, which isn't unknown with them.

Edited by: annoing on 19/12/2007 19:26:59 Even though the devs dont read past the first 5 posts i'll try anyway:
My shield hardeners no longer work. If attacking Serpentis (damage kin, therm) heavy missiles will do 90+, cruise 160+ no matter how many hardeners I use. I will try passive hardeners instead, but I dont expect any joy. Also, my shield regeneration is definately slower since patch. Not since Trinity, just this patch.
Shield: depending on the mood of the game my shields will either have regenerated upon leaving the station or not. If not, if I leave in a hauler (like a mammoth) my shields will be down to the same red as my attack ship (ie: if I use my raven and get to 70% shield and I jump straight into my mammoth, it too will have 70%). Also if I have left the ship in the station for a day the shields will still not have regenerated.
If you choose the station from the top left menu and opt for dock you no longer get within 1000m. You can only dock when you get to 0m. If you do get within 0m of the station you no longer automatically dock, you have to opt for dock again. However this doesnt seem to apply if you choose a station from overhead (right side) or if you choose dock at station from within your assets.
all in all I give this patch a fail.

I am also suffering from missing icons when Ships and Items are merged with Station Services as is my preference as well as the Warp drive effect appearing constantly around the ship from the second warp is activated until the moment you're fully out.
These are rather unpleasant detriments to gameplay and graphics. As if sucking the colours and varied shades out of Matari ships wasn't enough. _______________________________________________ It's easy to be miserable, being happy is tougher - and cooler." - Thom Yorke |

I'm having the ships and items blanking out problem too. I bugreported it so hopefully its in their system. I also noticed that the launcher (which I dont like anyway due to being fullscreen) sometimes 'loses' mouse and/or keyboard input and I basically have to ctrl+alt+del and start over again. I wasnt able to accurately reproduce it or anything, though. _________________ [SAK] Alumnus--And Proud Of It! -- aka Cpt Bogus Is that my torped sig cloaking your base?
