its all the adsl connections using the old uk info structure of cruddy old coper cabling that have issues.
virgin's cable connections running on the old blueyonder/ntl fiber optic network systems have no really issues my 4mbs connection regally pulls 3.8-3.9 mbs on all the connection tester sites and i happily run multiple clients on the connection with a second pc and a laptop running over wifi on it.

Changing my prefs.ini port to "port=3724" fixed the problem for me.
I'm on VM until my contract runs out.

yeah to clarify, we are hearing Virgin are testing traffic shaping software like tiscalis on the southeast part of the uk, Thats for the adsl customers , cable is unaffected.
My tiscrappy conection was out for about 2 hours from 8 pm tonight.
Please note all we're wanting on this thread is reported outages, not advice on swapping ISP , or how pipex, bulldog , eclipse, toucan etc are better so change to them, as most of the time they are owned by tiscali anyway.

Yeah I like those, you can only gets, I had same from Tiscarappy 5 meg at best. till their man came round for a visit, made a phone call to someone , and happily told me the line can take 7.5 all day and it did , till shaping time. I so think they have us all believing the crap about how far from exchange, long wires, extentions etc , when it seem all they have to do is actually turn the bugger on.

Virgin Media have excellent support newsgroups, try posting in virginmedia.support.broadband.cable with traceroutes to the server and other sites like www.bbc.co.uk & they will diagnose your connection and try to get it fixed.
see http://www.virginmedia.com/customers/newsgroups/listings.php
also

From what i have hurd the ISP are supposedly limiting bandwidth to important internet programs.
But the question is who decides what and which are the important programs???
The uk is not going to be the only country effected in this matter. Apparently ever ISP around the world is starting to do this despite the fact your on cable or not. The reason for it is there hardlines are getting to much information passed thro them and there not capable of handling the data. So instead of upgrading there gear they limit us to bandwidth and program use on the net.
I know that the gadget show on channel 5 (uk ppl) have already started to petition this and think its wrong if you go to there webpage you can also sign the petition, and as a company CCP i suggest you write to all ISP and get eve on the important programs list your you will be losing losts of customers in the coming yr or so.

ye they just fobbed me off with the usual "turn your cable modem off for 30 secs and then bk on" crap before blaming it on my end and saying its not a problem on virgins end which it blatently is

Ex Virgin customer here. From what i understand, between the hours of 4pm and midnight they cap everybodies usage so as to slow down users who are heavily downloading and slowing other users down and give everyone a "connection". Rumours going around are that they are using programme priorities but as per a few posts in this topic, who decides the priorities. Some say that it is down to the program to inform virgin, but i would hazard a guess they are just strangling port ranges and eve and vent unfortuneately are included in these.
I had ridiculously (think thats a word) slow connection speeds and incredibly high ping spikes on ventrilo making eve and comms unplayable. There is another thread in here somewhere called "virgin media screwed up Eve" or something like that which has a lot more information on this problem.
Hope you get it fixed, i had to move ISP's to sort it and everything runs fine now.
Buffb Keepin it Financial!!!

Edited by: 7shining7one7 on 17/12/2007 21:12:20 SURPRISING that eve players still use them, OR DO YOU simply WANT something TO WHINE about? waiting for ccp fixing it? hilarity ensues... let's be realistic.. the ccp bug report team can't even see the 5 vs 6 dots on the front of the mega, they had to ask me for screenshot 2 days later..
changing isp has a high success rate.

no IF I WAnted something TO WHINE about my caPSLOCk would be a good start.
You obviosly have the gripe with ccp. I don't know if ccp are bothered about losing customers about this issue, I don't work for them.
With other ISP's being bought up by tiscali and more introducing traffic shaping , how long before all UK isps have Eve issues?

bug after bug + horrendous bug reporting replies instills in you a definate sense of realism about what can and cannot be done by ccp within certain timeframes..
the caps were to illustrate two points without using more words.. hence saving time. quite more efficient, and no i wasn't trying to use caps_lock as cruise control for cool..
as for the buyup scenario.. change the isp till there's no option to (thus supporting the other isp's, giving less capital for tiscali). and then if that fails knock on ccp's door.
you can't expect them to fix it in the near future with them knowing so little about technical stuff as they do.. it takes them ages to just fix basic stuff for eve.. be realistic.
