Don't really care, as I said earlier, was after people with outages posting and allows me to monitor the problem, we have got acknowlegement from Tiscali at least rather than being ignored. We are just nagging them at the mo. All the rest has been commented on ad nauseum, including changing isps.

Edited by: Kilette Dark on 17/12/2007 23:50:49 Yep, Virgin Media 4Mg CABLE
Since about 9pm on the 16th, am unable to keep connected to eve for more than 5mins.
I dont in anyway blame CCP for this, I obviously blame virgin. But they are in a better position to find out what is happening than I am.
(I dont think its the Bandwidth throttle thing mentioned above, cos I can run everyhing else at full speed)

And up until now, no connection at all
Virgin Media Status Page
According to what was on it, it was a nationwide problem.... been sitting here twidling my thumbs for the past hour or so waiting.
I dont have that much in the way of problems connecting to EVE, but due to the throttling, between peak hours (4 and midnight) surfing the net can become tiresome.

Virgin Media 20mb here in the north west... it went off last night for about 20 mins (again), and since it came back on, I've been disconnecting from EVE and getting really bad lag on Vent every 10 mins or so. Pain in the arse tbh . I'm going to resort to carrier pigeon to send my data, less downtime.

Here in UK we have a serious problem. It's not the ISPs mostly but a) the old BT network b) P2P.
Solutions? Ban completely P2P. 99% is illegal either way. I currently have Virgin cable 2mb without issues (had a 20mbit but I downgrated since I use it only for gaming). But the new house we are moving doesn't have cable network. :/ I might get a business account from ISPs who deal with companies only (Claranet?). Bit more expensive but it will do the job.

Its nothing to do with the old BT network. I had massive problems- then changed from Tiscali to a decent ISP and guess what? Problems almost completely vanished overnight.
DO NOT ASSUME THAT TISCALI ARE DOING SOMETHING JUST BECAUSE THEY HAVE ACKNOWLEDGED YOU. This is their standard strategy. They will tell you that engineers are being instructed, that the matter has been escalated etc etc. They will do this repeatedly, but achieve / do absolutely nothing. If you are with Tiscali adn want to play EvE in peak times you simply must change your ISP asap.

As I work for one of the aforementioned isp's ADSL tech support I can categorical tell you all that 95% of speed issues and latency issues are down to traffic shaping of those isp's and they donÆt care about you or what you think, so your best option is to change isp's even if it means paying to get out of the contract, you may get asked to do speed tests by the tech teams who can see whatÆs going on from the results, bottom line is if your getting good sync speeds and bad throughput its the isp and not your phone line and the tech guy on the other end of the phone can not do a thing about it and cant really tell you the isp he/she works for is crap and to change isp's.
Also for those of you unfortunate enough to live in the south east of the UK it has the worst internet in the county due to the dense population and over subscribed isp servers.
And although the BT lines in this country are old, a perfectly working 2 meg ADSL connection should serve any home user perfectly fine for downloading the odd game, film and online gaming.
If u are stuck in a contract one way to try and get a better speeds is to go over to a fixed rate service with your isp known as "DataStream" which is the old service that ADSL broadband was first on, as most ADSL users are on the newer "IpStream" service the DataStream servers have low load on them although BT are slowly phasing them out so you wouldnÆt be on it for long...
And the end of the day CHANGE ISP'S

Quite.
I would add that you should get your code- and move- and then decline to pay anythign they try to charge for the remaining months. When they chase you for it- tell them they are in breach of contract in failing to provide a useable service. Chances are they will give up sooner or later. I refused to pay my final month with Tiscali- and I heard nothing further about it.

What happens is that it costs them a tenner to chase someone up for money, given staff costs etc, so they usually dont bother and stockpile a load of "final months" in a batch and sell it to a debt collection agency who get commision only door knockers to ..... acquire the funds....

changing isp has a high success rate.
no IF I WAnted something TO WHINE about my caPSLOCk would be a good start.
You obviosly have the gripe with ccp. I don't know if ccp are bothered about losing customers about this issue, I don't work for them.
With other ISP's being bought up by tiscali and more introducing traffic shaping , how long before all UK isps have Eve issues?
You make it sound like it's CCP fault, I suffered with Tiscali for 2 years, sometimes eve worked sometimes it didn't why it took me so long to change isp I don't know, but now I'm with BT I no longer have these woes.
Ditch Tiscali it's the only way forward people !

You have proof? you could be from a rival ISP. Have you any written evidence of policy? Can you back up anything you say which would help us?

If my ISP did so i could play at specific houres i would just change ISP no big deal. And if i was locked to that company for 6months i would still change isp, just have to pay for 2 for awhile, no bigge. Aint really that expensive for internet nowdays.

Latest from Tiscali. Quote " I do agree this has been dragging on, but I also understand some of the complexity surrounding traffic management. I have continued to champion this at various levels throughout the company including at a weekly meeting at HQ. This thread was originally set up by me to gauge the situation but also to provide hard data to the network team. It's doing its job as we are feeding this information back a few times a week. I'm sorry this is taking time, but rest assured, if I didn't think we could get somewhere with this, a) I wouldn't have started this sticky and b)I'd feed you a corporate line and close this off. Lets see what the network team come back to me with and when. Can I also encourage those that haven't yet added their complaint to this sticky to please do so. __________________ Regards

PLEASE PLEASE do not fall for it.
Every day you spend nagging tiscali, is another day wasted when you could be getting yourself onto a proper ISP and playing whatever game you feel like.
I was having these issues with Tiscali 18 months ago. I nagged, I was encouraged, reassured by technical people assuring me it was being looked into- and NOTHING changed.
They bank on people hanging around and putting up with it- and price the cost of a few leaving into their budgets.
Just move. They will not change anything.

TBF i've been with tiscali for almost 3 years (north east coast, scotland) with non of these issues, only time i lost eve were 3 days when the local exchange crapped out but they had it up and running by the weekend.
Tunneling is always a simple option, changing the eve port (does this work?) could be another. What i can say for definite is they never ask for complaints, it's out of character even by their standards. I'd be willing to give, at least one, of their employee's merit for this.
That doesn't discount alot of the other crap though. ***The EVE servers and their patches*** |

Well- even if you take this one employee at face value (ignoring the fact that they consistently fob people off with this stuff and do nothing), then this one employee is (by his own admission) having to champion the issue in the company. Which shows you just how much will exists in the company to respond to customers concerns- ie none.

You are not being very helpful here, we have finally got a specific person in charge of their broad band support forums interested and asking for our complaints and you are fighting against us. I encourage anyone with Tiscali to post on the provided sticky, and at least give this man a chance. As previously stated we have seen it all about swapping ISP's, that hasn't worked , so we are trying this. The subject of what is wrong has been thrashed to death, please just post the outages as requested. Thanks.
