I am on virgin media cable 2mb (medium) service. Its now 3:40am and i still cant stay connected to eve for longer than 2 minutes. This problem only started tonight, up to this point ive had no issues with broadband service or eve client connect. Why am i being screwed over so suddenly?
I read on Cable website they will be throttling from 4pm to midnight, so now its past midnight i know or suspect my ISP is not the issue. Would a CCP rep please comment on this issue as I see many others suffer from this extreamly annoying situation.
Sometimes i connect it says "UNKNOWN" Sometimes I connect and get in but clicking on my toon in the character select screen does nothing, then i get a "The connection to the server was closed." error. Sometimes i can log in and will be in for 60 seconds or a little longer before the same error apears. Sometimes, if im REALLY lucky, i can stay in for 5-10 minutes.
I have tried opening my prefs.ini files and adding a 1 at the end of NetworkAdvanced which does nothing as to giving me an extra option to chose my port when the client is reloaded.
I have tried changing my port to 3724 in the prefs.ini
I have tried disconnecting my router and plugging the cable straight into the modem as well as dissabling my antivirus and firewall.
I have tried HTTP tunnel and other such programs listed within the forums.
Nothing seems to work and considering i was suffering no problems at all until tonight, i have no idea what to do next.
If someone has an incline as to what i should do please suggest it here before i smash my modem into tiny little pieces and cancel my eve subscription, getting disconnected in the middle of battles is feking not cool at all.... _______________________________ [ 2007.06.07 21:07:22 ] FrankyWave > ransom me guys I am joining XElas !!! |

Is this somekind of mid journey packet loss? I am also experiencing irregular and intermittent disconnections from teamspeak. Any ideas? _______________________________ [ 2007.06.07 21:07:22 ] FrankyWave > ransom me guys I am joining XElas !!! |

Difference for me is, it doesnt matter what time of the day or night it is, i still cant stay connected for longer than 5 minutes.
I sent an email to Virgin requesting clarification, this is their response.
"Hi there,
Thanks for your email to Virgin Media.
Yes, it is fair use policy " traffic management " . Any users hitting the specified download allocated for each package during peak times (4pm till midnight) will have their broadband speed temporarily traffic managed ū their download speed will be set to 5Mb, with their upload speed set to 256Kb. This will last for 4 hours from when the traffic management policy is applied.
I hope the above answers your query, however, should you need further assistance, please don't hesitate to contact us again.
Just call the Broadband technical Support team on 0906 212 1111 - calls to this number are charged at 25 pence per minute from a Virgin Media land line with a 10 pence connection charge. Costs from other land lines and mobiles may vary. Our team is on hand to help you 24 hours a day, 7 days a week."
Ok, so that basically means between 4pm and 12midnight my bandwidth will drop to 1mb and my upload will drop to 256k.
So why exactly is it now 10:30am and i still cant stay connected for more than 5 minute. That must mean a problem with EvE in someway? Which is why i need a CCP Dev/Rep/GM/Tech Guy to read this post... READ IT DAMN IT!!! IM GOING NUTZ!!! _______________________________ [ 2007.06.07 21:07:22 ] FrankyWave > ransom me guys I am joining XElas !!! |

Oh yeah calling Virgin Broadband Tech Support Number is of NOOOOO USE WHAT SO EVER. If i wanted ot pay 25p a minute to talk to ppl from india i'd fly there. You meantion "im getting disconnected from a game, possibly due to your service" and they'll say "well our systems show there is no problems in your area".... THANK YOU... Even though i have no other problems with surfing, emailing, downloading **** or whatever they choose to give me that useless information. _______________________________ [ 2007.06.07 21:07:22 ] FrankyWave > ransom me guys I am joining XElas !!! |

This matches symptoms I see. I'm in the SE USA, on fast cable (Time-Warner, 5 Mbit) and I lose EVE connections frequently during the day. Only EVE disconnects; everything else seems fine. It seems a little better in the late evening.
I can always reconect immediately, too.

I will login, dropped Login ok, warp to gate, dropped Login dropped Login ok, Wait for the ship to drop out of warp. Dropped Login ok, Wait for the ship to drop out of warp. ok, Jump Dropped etc I also am on Virgin Media Cable 4mb. And Today I can (just) stay connected for 5mins.
Virgin have a noteup on their page saying there will be some distruptions in some areas at some time. But the bit to find out when where and for how long isnt implemented yet
The net has a whole seems to be working, my speed hasnt been cut (as above suddested), when I loose the connection, three out of four times the client is still connected, and I can just relogin. Only to be dropped again.
I lost a ship because of this (But only a kestral so Im not bothered), and it took me two hours to fly to the wreck and collect my stuff, due to being dropped and warped out of the complex
PS. I also did all that ini port messing about that the first post says. AND did a clean client download and instal

your connection looks like it is dropping out on inet.ntl.com addresses, they are the last ones the responded before the timeouts. These addresses are owned my Virgin Media.
tge2-3.fr4.lon.llnw.net [195.66.226.133] it picks up on after loss, is also owned by them
the [212.43.162.198] address it picks back up on after the loss is owned by NTL Internet which for Abuse complaints, directs you right to the Virgin Media website guessing they are owned by Virgin Media.

My problems started on the 17th, exactly after downtime...
I ran a check on PingPlotter at the address www.eve-online.com...
Apparently there is a server here that has an 85 to 90 % packet loss...
i have cable internet 10 MBPS from UPC romania...
the server i am having trouble with is ro-buh01a-ra1-ge-0-1-0.aorta.net (213.46.170.65)
This is driving me nuts!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :(

Thanks for the replies, i still cant figure out if this is an ISP problem or eve itself as not everybody here is on Virgin Media. _______________________________ [ 2007.06.07 21:07:22 ] FrankyWave > ransom me guys I am joining XElas !!! |

Hi there.
I Don¦t know if i can post it, so forum admin, you can delete this, if you want to.
WARRNING, THIS IS ONLY WINDOWS 2000/XP, NOT VISTA
Well I donĘt know if this helps.
But I use this at work, when other ISP, take of the traffic. on our citrix servers and other clients, and the performance is quite good after this, Vista shut not have that problem, sins microsoft reprogram the hole TCP/IP4 and IP6.
But one thing about this, MAKE SURE TO BACKUP YOU COMPUTER REGESTRY DATABASE.
Do this first, press start > run > write regedit, hit enter. (if you donĘt have run, you will find it under, Start > Programes > Accessories > Command Prompt, in their write regedit, hit enter)
Tap down the following way, HKEY_LOCAL_MASHINE > SYSTEM > CurretControlset > Service > Tcpip.
Press the folder parameters, then press file in the bar, then export, save it on your desktop, as oldtcpip.reg
Copy and paste the following into a notepad file. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ REGEDIT4
;[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer] ;"LinkResolveIgnoreLinkInfo"=dword:00000001 ;KeepAlives in order to make the disconnect/reconnect mechanism work ;appropriately. In environments where the TCP/IP network has high ;latency, modifying the operation of the NT TCP/IP stack can improve ;TCP-based ICA sessions. For more information on configurable TCP/IP ;parameters in Windows, see the Microsoft Knowledge Base article ;Q120642, or CTX708444: How to Set TCP Keep Alives so TCP/IP ;To ensure that a host server is quickly aware of dropped sessions, the ;two TCP registry settings listed below can be modified with the following ;moderately aggressive values: ;Key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\ ;Services\Tcpip\Parameters ;Value: KeepAliveTime REG_DWORD: 0000ea60 ;Value: KeepAliveInterval REG_DWORD: 000003e8
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip\Parameters] "KeepAliveTime"=dword:0000ea60 "KeepAliveInterval"=dword:000003e8 "GlobalMaxTCPWindowSize"=dword:00020000 "TcpMaxDataRetransmissions"=dword:0000000a "TcpWindowSize"=dword:0003ebc0 "Tcp1323Opts"=dword:00000003 ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Rename the file to tcpiptune.reg, make sure that you can see the extension of the file, so itĘs not .txt in the end, but .reg, say yes to change the file type.
Then restate the computer, then the new settings are applied.
See if it works for you. I Hope it dos, but I am not sure, it all depends on your Internet Service Provider, how they system is setup, and this is again only for WINDOWS 2000/XP, NOT VISTA.

I'm on a USR 9108 wireless router with 2mbit connection. I had all these issues with dc's and packet loss.
I run Pingplotter for hours straight and my ping was rising up to 2000ms and down to 80 ms again. When i opened a second client i also had packet loss and more disconnects. In a last effort to solve things i tried changing the channel of the wireless. Previously i had it on channel 1 and i put it on 11. And through divine intervention everything stopped. The packet loss disappeared the dc's stopped and now i'm playing with no problems.
I know that many of you guys out there don't even have wireless routers but for the lucky/unlucky ones that have please consider testing this and please i would like to hear some feedback.
Sorry for my spelling or grammar :)

First thing I did was disconnect the router and put the connection from my PC straight into my router. The problem seems to have resolved itself for now (touch wood). Seems there was a problem with one of the servers in London, which i guess my trafic was going through to reach the CCP servers. The server in question was getting something like 80% packet loss. Although I'm still not sure if that was the problem I'm just happy i can connect for longer than 2 minutes again. _______________________________ [ 2007.06.07 21:07:22 ] FrankyWave > ransom me guys I am joining XElas !!! |

any news on that?
i'm tryed pinging 87.237.38.200 with McAfee Visual Trace and it showed me going throu new york (which is just a big detour) and the 2 addresses there are those causing the packet lost, about 80% in both...

I have the same problem here. I get disconnected every 5 or less minutes. I live in Greece and the ISP i'm using is the national communication company.

Same here, constant disconnects after 5 minutes tops.
Greece, ISP is OTEnet. Firewall/Antivirus is Norton 360.
Running Vista 64bit with a single 8800ultra on a dual monitor setup, although I don't see much difference on a single monitor setup, windowed or full screen.
Using the on-board SoundMAX sound card.

For unrelated reasons, I wound up rebuilding the laptop that was experiencing the diconnects I mentioned above and the problem has disappeared. All the softwarełOS, drivers, everythingłchanged, so there's no telling what it was.
The machine is an HP NC6000 laptop, now running graphics and wireless drivers taken straight off of HP's web site. Everything's fine, quite different from before when it was diconnecting every few minutes.

Players,
I don't have an exact answerer to this problem but my advice would be to check all of your connections and also someone mentioned a server having a big packet loss which can be a really big deal if CCP has updated there networks and another company that links to CCP hasn't as hardware drivers are updated sometimes the TCP/UDP protocol packets can conflict as newer drivers mean different frames in the networking protocol itself. If something is new then sometimes it may not be compatible with old stuff so blah. If you have a PCI Network card I would maby suggest checking the drivers for it and see if theres new 1's from the people who make it and if not then maby reinstall the drivers on it etc.. and just play around with it all keep tweaking things until it works :( thats all I can pretty much say. If you need more info or advice just send an eve-mail to me.

Started getting this problem again. This time nearly lost a ship to gate gun fire, disconnecting suddenly, very frustrating.

My tip to anybody out there is to NOT use Virgin Media for your broadband supplier. _______________________________ [ 2007.06.07 21:07:22 ] FrankyWave > ransom me guys I am joining XElas !!! |

I am getting the same Issues, random disconnects or extreme lag (probably due to packet loss) and EvE will sometimes go for a few minutes before Tranquility gets refreshed from Status: Unknown to Status: xxxxx Players.
Its odd, I have only noticed it last night as it is the first time I have played in ages. Ventrilo/msn/etc was fine and never blinked.
Oh, and I am with tpg.com.au in Australia.

I did the registry hack that Kronos recommended, and I also enabled Jumbo Frames in my network card properties (6K MTU for my Realtek 8168) and I haven't had a spontaneous disconnect once!
