Anyone else been scammed into buying an omen that was described as an apoc? The character who did this to me is called IGPX. It wasnt on escrow either it was a direct trade in a station and it was clearly marked as an apoc battleship. I know i obviously fell for an old trick, but that doesnt mean i'm not ****ed off. let us know if its happened to you

It is a minor inconvenience that i fell for due to being tired and careless. Never again hopefully. Thanks for not flaming me for being stupid. Something that did suptise me though is that CCP although acknowleging it's a nasty thing to do, did not condemn it. Perhaps they want the real life dodgy car dealers in the game.

After the scammer unpackaged the Omen Cruiser, he named it to Apocalypse, and set it up on escrow and pretended it to be an Apoc..

It was not on escrow as i allways check the info on those sales. This was a direct trade in station. the player kept me talking on the convo he opened as another distraction. It was however as was said an omen which had been given a name. which he chose to call apocalypse. Clever really. I've been playing for 5 months now and not new to the game but as was demonstrated far too trusting

Never trust anyone.
People who, IRL, are honest because they fear the consequences of dishonesty, are quite happy to scam you left, right and centre in a game, because they know they can get away with it. People who, IRL, are honest because they are honest, wouldn't do it. Sadly, there's very few of us around
This doesn't apply to people killing you, because killing people is part of the objective of the game. Even there, though, there's a huge difference between the guy who sits in 0.0 space and kills you when you come past, and the guy who invites you on a mining trip to 0.3 space, gets you into the belt well away from all the sentry guns, and THEN kills you. The former's just playing the game; the latter is another kind of scammer.
Scammers are nasty. And, like I say, there's all too many of them about.

It's like when I change the name of my jettisoned ore to: "Medium Secure Container"

Actually you might have hit the nail on the head with this suggestion. Maybe CCP can make a safety where nothing in escrow can be sold unless Re-Packaged

It's only necessary for ships (and cargo containers, but why would anybody esrow those?) atm, since nothing else can be renamed. But yes, it'd be nice.
I've been hitting that nail on the head for the last six months, but the damn thing's not a nail, it's a hydra. It keeps growing new heads.

No, no.
I don't escrow containers. I don't have any secure containers so when I mine I just change the name of my floating cargo and hope no one bothers looking that closely.

My apologies. I hadn't intended to imply that I thought you were trying to scam someone into buying it, I fully understood what your objective in renaming a jettison can was, and I approve. It merely brought to my mind the fact that containers, as well as ships, are the only items which can be renamed; and therefore the only ones for which there's any reason to insist on repackaging before selling.

Edited by: Shaemell Buttleson on 16/03/2004 19:56:05 Well after several evemails to and from gm's and polaris they have finaly admited they do not mind scamming being part of the game. Never mind myself and the other careless or trusting individuals wont let it happen to them again i am sure. Although acceptable i will not be doing it myself and i hope anyone new to the game or just anyone for that matter reads this and is sufficiently warned that they should inspect whatever it is they buy in future. Congrats to IGPX who was right when he told me nothing could or would be done to stop this. I hope you manage to keep using this excellent feature CCP have included in the game. I also hope you catch Herpes but thats outside the game and i hope you dont take offence because legaly i can hope anything i want to about you. And that is a feature of real life

Another person who is scamming ships is the player named Aurelia Brigante. She will try to package an Omen, rename it Armageddon, and sell it to you for 62 million.
She says she does not earn ISK by doing anything else in the game. Her only method of earing ISK is scamming.
She excuses her actions, saying she can do it because CCP wronged her for 60 mil, so she is just passing their wrongdoing on.
All we can do is pass the alert along when we see them attempt to play others in the market channel.
Probably a petty thief IRL.
