I don't usually post a whole lot around here, but the whole EVE world needs to know how awesome my wife is.
She doesn't play EVE, she plays the occasional puzzle game. She doesn't much care for games at all really, but this year she got me a Chimera for Xmas!
For months she conspired with in game friends to sell time codes, buy AND fit the Carrier.
That's it, I just could not let that go without telling anyone who will listen (or read).

She used real world money to buy you a pretend spaceship.
Wow, she must be a real bombshell wife.....

ummmmmm last time i checked this game was targeted to the adult arena, most children could not play this.
and that is an awesome wife. she is very thoughtful to get something that is important to you and useful for you. even if it is an intangible like an internet spaceship, it is still a wonderful gift for a gamer.

Agreed, all kids in my neighborhood play EVE. Oh wait... All you dry ***holes can sod off. It just simply cannot be a fun thing to do, instead you guys have to come here and shed your tears over the five pairs of knitted socks your spouses gave/will give you for Christmas instead of something interesting and unexpected. ------

I feel sorry for the people who don't appreciate the wonderful sentiment and effort his wife went through. For most of us this is merely an enjoyable hobby. The fact that his wife was willing to indulge in his hobby is nothing but ultimate win.
The losers and malcontents in this thread can't do anything other than try to crap on it. They don't understand it and aren't in relationships where their significant others are happy to help them enjoy their hobby. Seriously, I don't know why people are randomly flaming with alts in here.
Myself and my (now ex) GF used to buy eachother random stuff all the time as gifts. She put the price of two 8800 ultras together for my last machine I built, knowing full well I'd be hammering Eve on it.
I got her a PS3, and later a 360, knowing full well she'd be bashing buttons and waking me up to play at 4am.
We still speak constantly and buy eachother random crap all the time. My next present for her is probably going to be a Nvidia 9 series DX10 card when they hit the shelves cos she's currently dribbling over crysis and waiting for Half Life 2 : EP3.
I have no doubt in my mind that if we wanted stuff so badly in an online game, that one of us would get it for the other as a surprise gift, just for a laugh.
In Eve it's a gift like any other tbh.

Has nothing to do with any of that.
What it has to do with is a guy who has a wife who is cool enough to think of a very creative gift and go to some effort to make it happen. More, she doesn't even see gaming as a hobby worth pursuing but doesn't question that her husband enjoys it and supports him in that enjoyment.
What we have here is a WIN for an obviously very cool wife (and we should not forget his in-game friends who also assisted). The OP sounds like a lucky guy to have such good friends (they could have ripped him off...many in EVE would) and what sounds to be a great wife.

Verone, you know very well. Don't come with this talking about your GF and you buying each other REAL (material) stuff like video cards and comparing them to ingame items bought with RL real money. Other games have their own "Items Store" but EVE, thanks God, have no such thing. Anyways, if you don't know (I doubt) here goes:
EVE-Online Rules & Policies
4. ILLEGAL TRANSFER OF GAME ITEMS
An immediate permanent ban of an account may result if a player is found to be:
* a. Selling in-game goods or services for real world currency through an online auction site or any other venue. * b. Advertising the sale of EVE in-game goods or services for real world currency through an online auction site by using the in-game chat channels, through our forums or by any other venue.
Severe offences may result in an immediate ban without warning; however. warnings may be given for first time offenses, followed by account suspensions of varying degree and ultimately a permanent ban if a player:
* a. Buys in-game goods or services for real world currency through an online auction site or any other venue.

But for the trolls...

I don't see any mention of EBay. Whether you guys agree with the GTC Trade or not, it was legal if they just sold GTCs and bought the carrier with ISK.

Hi there, what's this forum?
His wife don't play EVE!!! Read the OP.
And for the ones saying that this some type of trolling (the same that don't follow the rules of CCP), yeah, I hope the GM Team make some investigations in these situation, as well in the ones supporting such thing, for the sake of EVE!
Merry Christmas for you too.

That's not from the EULA (End User License Agreement), it's from the Suspension and Ban Policy, don't need to reply if you feel embarrassed, really. Yeah, some really need learning to read before writing.
There are thousands of ISK sellers sending evemails, everyday, in every system, they even spam local in Jita with their sites offer, and now we all can have an idea why this business is so lucrative.
Keep posting, as I hope some CCP staff will look the deep of this.

Of course the fact the OP mentioned GTCs just passed you by didn't it? If his wife gave money to his ingame friend so he could sell GTCs for ISK to buy a carrier it's perfectly legal.

Either way, you're wrong and so I shouldn't be the one feeling embarrased.
If you feel so strongly about it, I suggest getting a wife or girlfriend instead of ranting of a game forum about things you don't know.

And that links are your argument... You simple come and say I'm wrong because you think you are right? So far, so good: Plenty of information of the ppl that don't play the game, ppl that use Game TIME Codes as a new way to exchange real money for ISK (translating in Carriers, Titans, Implants) and you think that CCP support this? Really? So, you don't want to waste your time in mining to build that Mom of yours, neither want to ask your fellow Corp members do do it for you as you all will loose your PvP fun, that already take a lot of playing time from you?
Do you realize that if GTC was not to pay, ONLY, for your TIME but for your Carrier it would be called GCC (Game Carrier Code), or GMC (Game Mothership Code), or GIC (Game Implant Code) ??????
What a shame... You will continue arguing like that? Please, do it and let everyone know why some "fortunate" players have plenty of ISK without gaining it in game.

Assume for a moment that you(Bloody Slave) and I are good friends in the RL or even just ingame. I have a lucrative GTC business ingame...and due to this GTC business I am worth 10's of billions of ISK.
I decide that I'm going to surprise you and buy you a very expensive ship for a Christmas present. And if we are Corp mates deposit the ship in your hanger or drop a contract on you for you to pick it up.
Are you going to deny this GIFT?
I am not very fond of the GTC program, however nothing illegal was done here.
Your real "beef" is with CCP for allowing the practice.

In many cases an IRL wife will not share the same interests as you in many of those cases she will actively try to change your interests and not support them at all. The few that do share and support a husband's interests are incredibly understanding people. My Mother never understood my father's nascar and football obsessions while she bought token gifts concerning them. Never did she really support them.
OP: Your wife got you a friggin carrier for Christmas. Hang on to her Women like that don't come along often. I am not talking about future ingame items either.

To the op, awwwwwwww that's very sweet of her, very unexpected and fun christmas present that your happy about, that's awesome.
that aside, some of the comments in this thread are quite disturbing, like the guy that said that his wife gave him an ultimatum stop playing eve or she would leave and take the dog with her, and he's responds, i'll really miss that dog.
that's not funny, you got a serious gaming addiction problem you need to get worked out or your life will go in the gutter. real life > eve online or you got a serious problem that you need to get sorted.
and to the guy who said that eve-online is a game that is meant to appeals to kids i'll just say hmmmm... corp management + politics, complex trading and market speculation, the mathematics of production, mineral compression and so forth, advanced understanding of the vast amount of skills and skillpath, advanced strategic planning, execution and cooperation, corp infiltration and regular intel coordination, and, oh yeah, brutal and heartless ransoming, scamming, and smacktalk + metagaming and rl hacking of personal computers and webservers in some cases.
Yeah .. eve is really THE game made small kids.. go smoke another one bro... eve is not hello kitty online.
that said, merry christmas to everyone, and a happy new year, fly safe in eve, and do take time for the RL family and friends since they are who really matters when it comes down to it.

It is crass to ask someone the actual cost of a gift. It is the thought that counts and while that may seem a trite answer it is actually true...particularly in a case like this where a lot of thought clearly went in to it. As much as he will be enjoying his carrier he will doubtless enjoy his wife even more knowing what a cool chick she is.
As for what he got her IIRC he said he got her some nifty electronics she really wanted and was apparently happy with.

I'm amazed that the general forum has degenerated to the point where people are flaming about Christmas presents.

Lets say you gained a new macro program from your GF/Wife, one that promises 1 bi ISK/day, expensive piece of crap that will give you a LOT of (RL or in game) wealthy. You don't need to run for your ISK with boring stuff after loosing some in your funny activities. Oh, you would be glad receiving such a "gift".
And from the people that are reading all this, of course, some use these type of, lets say, "strategies" to get ahead of the other players and are proud of being the "powerful" that don't need to do mundane tasks. Oh, I got some of them mad on me just because I'm showing the facts of their real "power".
Keep coming with the posts and your, well, "arguments". But, IMHO, would be more helpful if you, that support this type of thing, come and say why you do it, and not only saying that I'm wrong in not doing it.
Say what you think EVE must become, give some idea to the Devs to create a Game Items Store (for real cash) in the EVE-O sites, as I'm pretty sure someone that is not from CCP is cutting their profit, say how it would be better if you could buy your stuff with your RL money instead of doing mundane tasks that, BTW, give the Devs a lot of troubles to create and to maintain. Say what you really think, or don't bother to post with nonsense because everyone will know, or you think be fooling someone here?
Merry Chistmas for all you too, I do know that some don't have the time they wish to play the game and they want to be powerful too and only training skills don't give you that feeling. The ISK part of EVE is hard to learn, just a few manage to do it, but I can bet you will be bored soon with the game, just keep getting your stuff without working for it in game and the magic will be gone, believe me.

Bloody Slave,
A) Merry Christmas.
B) We don't care if you don't like the GTC system. We don't care if you think people are buying too many GTCs. We don't care if you think they are supporting farmers. In fact, we don't care about anything you care about anyway, in regards to anything in relation to this thread. Your cares are like sub-atomic particles compared to the solar masses of what we care about. If you don't like GTCs, start a thread about it...elsewhere.
To the OP: If there were more women like your wife, I'd consider dating again.

Wow, what an awesome gift! It was so incredibly thoughtful of somebody who doesn't seem to understand the game a whole lot! Major incredible kudos to her! She is absolutely the epitome of a loving caring and generous wife. Make sure you treat her right! You've got one of the greats!
Oh and-- about those who think GTC buying/selling for gain of isk is illegal... I find it funny that one of the hints when starting up Trinity is something like "Buying game time cards for cash and then selling them to players can be a great way to earn isk!".

Vikarion,
A) The same for you.
B) Some questions about it, you are talking "we" as you represent some group, please, clarify: - "We" that don't want to work in game for our ISK? - "We" that have macro programs in our computers and gain a lot of RL money in some MMO and make a living with that? - "We" of my Corporation? - "We" that bothered to post here in support of this "strategies"? You are representing one or all of that groups, there happened some sort of election or you were previously chosen as the "Emissary"?
I do care about your "cares" tho.

As previously stated, it is a pathetic indication of the state of the boards that we have trolls and derailments aplenty in a thread about a Christmas gift.
This thread stays on topic, does not deviate towards discussing the GTC scheme and is free of trolls from now on.
If you value your posting priviliges you do not want any of our early "gifts".
