Not only do I not trust people, in this game I keep an eye on my ALTS just to be on the safe side...

Trust requests for help ? Nope. Reasons ? Many, including the infamous "Loftying"
Ask for help ? Nope. Reasons ? Many, including anti-social tendencies and mild paranoia
Its just me, myself and I. Circle of trust. End of.

Edited by: Sphynx Stormlord on 30/12/2007 22:14:45 I once had 4 people helping me in low sec, at the station ('The Assault' used to spawn ships at the agents station).
I was very surprised that no one even locked me; my domi was down at less than 20% armour during the fight, but everyone was actually helping and shooting the rats and not me.
I think it is a shame that the missions which spawned rats in public areas (ie gates and stations) are no longer available and have been replaced by the deadspace missions with the same names.

Having been active in the game since 2003, things have certainly changed.
They may have only been 4-5 thousand people logging in, but half of those you could get and pickup a random conversation from, an act of kindness for you're or their benefit... it had a lot to do with the people that were active in the game in the first year of eve being around.
This is mainly how it was, but the reasons why things were like that then, and what they are now.
Mentioned the type of player allready, most back then were single personal accounts, most people were enclined to group and talk to people through personal choice, you made lots of friends quick and easy if you were prepared to dab your feet with others... this alone from the advent of most people having anything from 2-10 accounts these days will never see the return to that mindset of thinking among people, despite whatever personal motivations individuals might have, there simpley isn't any great percentage of the playerbase to support what should be happening.... largely blame ccp for this one.. constantly changing ingame activites to favour multiple characters from a single user.... totaly killed off the idea of social interaction for many joining/present in the game at the source, without the players getting involved.
Mention the players, obviously im suprising nobody but mentioning the gang me buddy at war rubbish that flew around for too long.... just another nail in truth though (something the developer choose not to change, despite it being exploited in an unintented manner... like a 'lot' of the gang system rules were over the years before hand that were changed because they were being exploited in the same ways ganged alts at war were) things are now for eve at absolute rock bottom as far as productive interaction goes amoung individuals.
Ill relate to your subject:
Yes/No per your question.
Why before, why not now?
A) in my mission running place of choice, out of the 150-200 logged in after a dt.... half of those will be high sec isk farming alts on peoples multiple accounts.... a good 40-50 will be plain old isk farmers, half of whats left will be people only there to shoot easy war targets attempting to run missions, or alt's attempting to scan out peoples missions to grab the salvage, or worse grief them by stealing mission criticals..... your lucky out of 200 in local at any one time... there's 20 or 30 legitmate players that would involve themselfs together.... strange.. but those 20-30 would have been it back in 03/04... shout and you would have been called:)
Thats why i don't, nothing to do with greed/loot/trust or whatever....i have no problems what so ever giving up my time to help others, more to do with there's a very small percentage of legitimate players that deserve it.
Helping out isk farmers would be a no. Helping out high sec isk farming alts would be a no. Helping or placing myself at the mercy of high sec greifing alts would be a no.
The main failing is ultimately the rise of the GTC though in reguards to just about all of this.... ALTS
" Secure ETC trade. Let us realize here that by using the secure ETC trade, not only can you fatten your wallet a bit, but you are enriching the virtual world itself. We get more players, more diversity, more social networking and our world is richer and more interesting for it. It's a win win situation for everyone."
GM nova Quote taken from public forum.
He seems to be of the belief, that flooding eve with gtc's has improved it's social networking and has made the world of eve to become a richer expeirence for people.
After reading that, scan over again why i don't help out randoms in local anymore

Flame me like as much as you want but me a past wow player i found it pretty weird on EvE everyone being so quiet and most of the time rude (not just saying f off, ignoring you)
Im sure if lvl 5s were made better they would really be the group missions a lot of wow players miss, it was fun on wow being able to group up with people and complete tasks. As long as they dont bring raiding into the game
you may feel that eve is a PvP game but getting the money to pvp could be improved by doing it with friends.

No, I'm with you there. Eve PVE needs a lot of work, and not many people I know disagree with that.

Not flaming here but you're unlikely to find many trusting folk replying here, most of these ppl know the racketeers from their mission ganking exploits .
You are right ofc most players do tend not to trust ppl outside their corp, not because they're antisocial they simply understand the mechanics of eve, and how vulnerable they are in another persons gang. On the other hand the portion of lowsec i spent my first year in eve living in (moved in at 2 weeks in ) i'll happily gang up with anyone needing a hand or sacrifice my ship for a random person there.
Put simply pp will not openly trust of aid each other in an area loaded with capitalistic players attempting to take advantage of others, but will in an area they know does not have folks like that i.e. you arn't going to get ganked helping a 3 month old character. ***The EVE servers and their patches*** |

I occasionally help strangers with missions, but only under specific circumstances. After carefully checking the gang invite for war warnings, I warp to the site of the mission and leave the gang. In a joint convo ill use eve voice to coordinate our efforts.
Also, if the person is running missions for a combat intensive agent I will not help, since they had an idea of what missions to expect beforehand. But if its a marketing or public relations and they are struggling with the odd kill mission I don't mind. Extra cash from bounties is always nice, and at a Minmatar & Gallente unmodified faction standing of 8.48 and 7.88 respectively, I am not really desperate to get a cut of standing increases.
