Edited by: Riethe on 30/12/2007 07:44:28 I've had far too many discussions about this.
Here's the solution we've agreed on (my circle):
Gather everyone up as quick as possible--the people that you care about or think can be helpful.
Raid as much junk as you can while you still have time, supplies, weapons, etc.
Steal a cruise liner, board everyone, board all your stuff, and sit off the shore a good few miles to ensure safety.
Zombies can't swim, zombies can't figure out that you're out there, and these things have enough supply on them to keep 50 people alive for a very long time, very comfortably.
Some of these ships can hold 5000 people for a long period of time. If you just have a couple dozen of survivors, it should be no problem to keep everyone fed for as long as necessary, even years.
Just live on your cruise liner for a long enough time for the whole thing to blow over.
If supplies do go bad or go low or something needs to be done on land, you can use a motorboat to make trips to land, although it shouldn't ever be required.
So whose coming with me?

what if the movies were wrong?
what if zombies DO swim?
what if they can use tools or weapons?
how long can a zombie "survive"?
how can you actually "kill" it?
because i dont have a zombie plan, only some thoughts that contain supersoakers and holy water as well as some religious chanting.
zomg ima gonna get pwned! can i get in on the ocean liner?

My idea for a zombie invasion in MY area.
Get a car with a big back seat. Drive to Big Five. Drive THROUGH Big 5's front panel. Stop near the gun section. Toss everything into the backseat, with ammo and everything. Dont spend time trying to sort it. JUST CHUCK IT ALL IN THE BACK SEAT. Break the wood things holding the shotguns and rifles if its locked. Find a secure place to unload my newest toys, and take the time to remove the safety locks on the triggers that the store put on, then load and take count of ammunition. If internet isnt down, print out a list of nearest Big 5 stores. And get one of those Short special Ed buses

We have our plans in detail but it's probably a bit too long to post here. Anyway, im rather looking forward to a zombie invasion. I'd say it'd be pretty cool and a once in a lifetime experience

Thanks for proving my point! Pretty much everyone has the same idea, they will go to a very public place and attempt to pillage their survival. What makes you think this will be easy?
You say youve talked about it in depth, was that while you guys were all sitting around smoking out of the bong?
Are any of your people educated on maintaining a cruise liner's essential systems to remain operational? Naval navigation? Did you think about the millions of other people who will retreat to the water, then realize they dont have enough supplies, but see your giant cruise liner packed to the brim with goodies like santa's sleigh?
I dont think many people from this community will have a good time once the **** hits the fan

"Rouge was a commercially successful, Spice Girls-like Brazilian vocal group and girl band, formed in the first season of the reality show Popstars, broadcasted by SBT in 2002."
What part does this girlgroup play in the oncoming zombie apocalypse? And who was stupid enough to provide them with a destroyer and small fleet of raiding ships? If in the event of a zombie holocaust the admiralty is placed under the command of the nearest all girl pop group I am beginning to understand why society is doomed.

Every film has to have the comedy villain I suppose...this one just happens to be a group of brazilian spice girls with a raiding fleet...would prefer to be attacked by a bunch of girls in skimpy outfits dancing around than a rogue British or US navy destroyer...if you're gunna die might aswell die having a bit of fun ---

tbh a zombie attack is one of the rare reasons i wouldnt mind the US government using their armed forces to invade the rest of the world...
so my new zombie plan is:
wait for marines join them borrow small sidearm shoot slow moving targets, that dont fire back.
i like that
too bad zombies dont have oil

Edited by: Suze''Rain on 31/12/2007 01:04:18 you've got to love scotland, and I'm also a reenactor. sorted. towerhouses in the middle of no-where, with perfect vields of view for any approaching brain-nibblers, and plenty of weaponary to hand.
therefore, the tactical plan I have is as follows: hear news. Phone partner. grab swords: rapier, cos it's light, fast and punches through eye sockets easily... longsword, because if you know how to use it, its very good at taking heads off (well enough with blunts, yet alone sharps), and works better in a crowded area. get to my partner's. get her swords... and daneaxe... and spears... and sheilds... and helms... break through floor of her flat, into chemists below. steal every supply we can.
then get out of edinburgh, and over the forth bridge towards Fife, and those towerhouses. Sorted.

well if we're going to be realistic about it, guns wouldn't be an option for longer than a few weeks since you'd run out of ammo in no time. Only option would be underground/secure/enclosed cities for the survivors to thrive in.
I think the Halflife 'Portal Storm' fiction portrays it well imo. Headcrabs randomly appearing all over the place, turning people into zombies and making life outside of secure urban environments extremely hostile (thus condensing the world's population into the larger cities where protection is readily available)
If your nextdoor neighbour suddenly did turn into a zombie however you wouldn't have much preperation for it (unless extremely paranoid or a sword collector). Long stabby garden accessories such as Pitchforks and lawnmowers would probably work best

Right, I don't want to go to sleep and I have nothing better to do, so here's my zombie plan.
Location: Fort Worth, TX, USA (most likely)
Step 1: Evaluate the Intensity and Location
The biggest factor that I think needs to be looked at before any response is planned is how dangerous is it, and where? You don't alter your daily plans if its raining a bit do you? But, what if you instead know a Hurricane is coming towards you? You make plans, just in case.
Keep an eye on the news for strange incidents, like murders or cult killings, things like this, and then get on guard. At the first sighting of a zombie, whether or not its in person, on the local news, or on the front page of the New York Times, start preparing. That being said, the main news sources might be censored, so by keeping an eye on alternative outlets, like Yahoo News or reputable blogs, supplemental evidence can be considered. The rule of thumb I'd use is the bigger it is, the harder to cover up.
The next question is how close is the nearest outbreak to you? If its on the other side of the world, you have more time to prepare, plan, stock up on supplies and all that, but if a fire is burning down the street from an idiot that decided to throw a Molotov at a group of shamble-folk, yea, you don't have time to run and have to prepare to defend your home.
Step 2: Preparation and Planning
Let's assume that latter case isn't the one that happens to me - I hope it isn't because I'd be toast, maybe taking a few with me but yea, toast. But, if I get time to prepare, what's the plan?
Unlike most people, I think its stupid to just pack up the family car and "go". How many of us really know how to fish, or make clean water from a potentially contaminated river? Or construct, let alone use, crossbows or swords? I know I can't, at least not well enough to risk my life on them - give me a firearm, please.
Given time, my first thing to do would be to assemble a group to fund an escape from Texas. My family would be a given, but my friends' family might need convincing and would be reluctant, meaning its likely just my parents, our dog, and me. So, where should be go?
The ideal place for me would be somewhere with a mix of natural defenses (mountainous terrain, cold weather to slow and freeze the undead, islands nearby or an island itself), with good capacities to support human life (an existing small human settlement, remote, self-sustaining with a little work). I think I know where that'd be, Sitka, Alaska, USA; I've been there before, and you can fly there so long as the airlines are still operating. If not, its a multiple-day drive to Washington state from our location, and ferry ride up north. One of the most important things that I think would be useful would be the local, hardy population - unlike most urbanites, they don't have as easy a life, and would be better with outdoor matters.
Stuff to bring with us or ship on the airplane would be weapons and ammunition, focusing on things we know how to use and maintain (AR-15 for me, plus pistols), survival manuals focusing on fishing (salmon in the area, anyone?), and possibly shelter-making if we'd have to bug out of town. First aid kits and manuals would be big too, as well as potentially seeds for indoor greenhouses we might be able to build, gardening and fishing tools, water purification tablets, rucksacks to carry it all, and maps of the local area. A laptop or two to stay in touch, potentially, with the outside world + handheld radios and walkie-talkies would be useful as well.
Once there, we'd find a place to call home legally or not, and begin fortifying it while establishing a food supply and rapport with the locals. Kill zombies where we have to, and make extensive use of the islands/mountains in the area as secondary defensive positions.

EDIT: ohh yea. And if you CAN find a Dragunov, maybe you'll be lucky in a gunstore or something. nab that too. Same like an AK. Little maintenance required, unless you grab one of the poser Dragunov's that have been being sold on the internet as Dragunov's, but arent really REAL Dragunov's
EDIT2: I just remembered. GOODYEAR BLIMP!!! How cool would it be to be in the Goodyear Blimp, with zombies beneath you, and you can fly anywhere. Or even better. Get a Skyscraper, barricade the first floor and then all the stairwells leading up. And make a garden on the roof where sunlight can hit it. Tada. But then the problem is RAIN. Might work for places like London or wherever gets alot of rain
