Originally by: Greme Nice tutorial on the transitions! A bit of a noobish question here, but how do you get to view the videos in the project window in premiere as thumbnails as you have them, rather than the list style that I have them?
There is a button at the bottom of the project window which is called icon, click that for thumbnail heaven.

Thought I'd help out Alleykat, so I've done a little (well, 30mins) tutorial on post production of EvE videos, just hinting at what can be done to give your video that "hey look at me" factor.
Apologies for the rubbishness/roughness of the tutorial, it's my first one so i'm not quite used to doing them yet :) Bear with the waffly talk and sentences that just seem to stop :p
Tutorial is Here

Apologies, the mkv seems to be out of sync. I shall try to re-encode it if I have time. In the meantime, here is a (larger) wmv link: Clicky
Again, sorry for the balls up (maybe I should go back and re-read the tutorial for encoding options for mkv :P), and hope you enjoy.

I've been trying to record at Full size 1680x1050@30 FPS , and fraps keeps recording it at lower quality, 720x480 all the time. Don't know why, i have a Core 2 Duo [email protected] with 4gb RAM so it *should* work i think. Any help appreciated

thx a lot for your tutorial videos; they helped me a lot for getting familiar with Sony Vegas.
But i have one question. I want the actual ships on the battlefield as an info besides the actual fight (for example over the Local Chat). I've already placed a black field on the local and also placed with the ProType Titler the shipnames there, but i can't change the colour of the ship names during a fight (when a ship gets destroyed) -> So a line, which is written in white, can't be changed to red.
I've already tried as much as i know, but i don't think that there is a way to change colours in the Protype Titler.
Is this correct, or can you help me?

So many ways of doing this!
My personal way would be to do the following:
1: In your main editing window, go to project media and select the 'white text'. 2: Open the text. 3: Click on the text name in the protype titler, to the left of the timeline inside the titler screen. 4: Click the button to the right of that called 'save to my collections' and give it a name. 5: Close the protype window. 6: Click/drag the 'empty' protype titler template to the desired position on the main editing timeline where the current 'white text' needs to change to 'red' 7: When the protype titler opens after you let go of it in the timeline, click on 'collections' and select your named collection style. 8: Alter the desired text to 'red'. 9: Close the protype titler screen and fine-tune the text on the main timeline track to appear only when the correct ship goes down.
old text-
bad guy1 bad guy2 bad guy3
new text-
bad guy1 bad guy2 bad guy3 (now dead)
My reasons for doing it this way, is you have a consistent file in your collection which will always be in the correct place and of the right dimensions as all the others. It can be used as a generic style, which is what the collections tab is for - making your life easier when dealing with multiple instances of dissimilar text with similar styles or vice versa.

Hi!
I have a problem with the export quality of Adobe Premiere. Have made an .wmv file, just like explained in the tutorial. But the Quality of the Output Video is not so good. The problem is that the chat text and the overview gridlines looks realy bad. Maybe i have to add some filters or some sort of stuff?
Fraps file is OK, 1680x1050, looks realy nice.
thx 4 help, Noxxeh

Wild guess without being at your computer is the render settings.
Using the menu options go Project>Video Rendering and then change the 'file format' to Video for Windows and the 'compressor' to 'none'.
See how you get on with that.

EDIT: I have noticed that i can not use windows media video 9 codec. Not in Sony Vegas, not in Adobe Premiere Pro, so i downloaded the codec from Microsoft, but after installing, rebooting, ect there is anyway no codec. In Sony Vegas is get "No existing templates support this media" if i choose .wmv as file type. Any suggestions?
Fraps file is OK, 1680x1050, looks realy nice.

Hmm, I'd be tempted to check whether you downloaded the correct codec pack from Microsoft's web site, there are quite a few confusing links contained within their site. If you think you did and still have this problem, V8 is fine.

I don't use Vista so no idea I'm afraid. Try pressing F1 in the program and searching the help file for details of the location of the custom profiles for Vista.

Nice work here AK! ..a perfect explanation of how to setup WMM for spitting out eve videos w/ close to perfect output. thanks for capturing my good side ;)
One thing I discovered later but could never update my original post is if you're using Widescreen (16:9) vs. Normal (4:3) aspect ratio, there is a setting in Windows Movie Maker that will govern the final output and effectively override your profile settings. So even if you created a profile for 1600x900 resolution, if your WMM option is not set for 16:9 aspect ratio, the video will come out in 4:3 and skewed to fit standard format.
The setting in WMM is found under Tools > Options > Advanced tab, and you can toggle the Aspect Ratio setting between 4:3 and 16:9. Even if your computer has a widescreen display, the default setting with Windows Movie Maker comes in as 4:3.

Heh, thanks man - got your portrait using the ingame image.
It's a good point about the aspect ratio and something I did not consider - thanks for the update on that. You really should put some tutorials together for WMM, lots of people do use it and it'll be great to add some more to the first page.

I know this is a really noob question, and I suspect I already know the answer, but, is there anyway to remove the crosshairs from the display?
Ctrl-F9 takes away the clutter, just would like to remove the crosshair as well.
Thanks,

Great tutorials, thanks.
The documentation for the H.264 encoder says that using it for videos of 1680x1050 or higher may cause playback problems, and that happens to be the resolution I run Eve at. So what's the best way to drop the resolution (to 1440x900, maybe) with minimal quality loss? Will choosing a lower resolution for the project in Premiere do it, or is there a better way?
I hate signatures with no distinct break from the body of the post. |

Oddly enough, there is a tutorial sort-of on this topic which I plan to do, which doubles up as a workaround to when the project settings are wrong, but you've already done the editing.
Bottom line is this: lowering the resolution from 1680 to 1440 is not a problem as it's only 16% or so of the original fraps size and so should retain its quality. You could even go for a 50% reduction and it not effect the quality to a degenerative amount - exception to this would be full screen GUI shots, as they ever-so-slightly blur the interface out the higher percentile reduction you go, and seem to effect higher resolutions more than lower. A 1920 resolution looks barely passable when dropped down 50%.
As always, do some ten second tests and see what you think - if it looks good to you, go for it.

New tutorial added on how to correct project files inside Adobe Premiere Pro, and applies to either 2.0 or CS3 versions.
Had a lot of questions recently about this, so here is the solution/workaround for you.

These videos are brilliant, and really helped me along the way to making my first eve video. Cheers for making them Ak
Got one question about vegas though. I made a custom ProType Titler, saved it, but whenever I try to use it it fails to load correctly (All I get is an application window, no input fields or suchlike) where all the default ones work fine. Any ideas on what I should check, or shall I just resign myself to have to customise the effects on all the protypes I make? ---------- It's great being minmatar, ain't it |

Are you opening the ProType Titler with a blank template, and just dragging the custom text design into the ProType Titler timeline?

Quick Question..
How do I get the game to stop "streaking" the stars in relation to my ship when I am set to parent on a non-moving object?

Obviously, this Caldari turret in front of my local station isn't warping through the cosmos.. Any ideas?

I believe this is unavoidable for the most part, however, it is accurate - as the camera is displaying motion based on its parent target, and this includes the streaking effect. |
