I'd also add Deinterlace to that list of bad things to have enabled for progressive video.

1 Year 21 Tutorials
Now it's time for another one.
This short one is an extension to the camera tutorial and covers one of the best shots from one of the best vids made this year, "The Angel Cartel - Push Eject" by Kyoko Sakoda.
Thanks for all the 'thanks' over this past year, but truthfully, thanks to you for making videos that the community can watch and enjoy. This past year has seen some great videos and I think next year people will push their creative talents even more.
Keep frapsing, keep editing.

Link is working, seems to be a mirror problem, the DNS cache refreshes every 5 minutes so try again and you should be presented with another mirror (maybe I need to decrease the refresh rate again...)

AK, do you have any tips regarding the adverts for the tourney.
F.I. How to make your movie 1024x576 if you frapsed at 1680x1050 and how to make it 25fps if frapsed otherwise and many more :D
P.S. Seems EON-magazine has forgotten the E-ON Award for Chief Tutor of the year. You have my vote. |

Sure,
All it would take is to create a project which is 1024x576 @ 25FPS, import the footage and scale it down. The fps, is kinda irrelevant, as Vegas/PremPro will just render it out at 25 FPS and you'll miss out on a few frames, but it should synch just fine.
As these adverts are being streamed, at this res, the final image will not be that sharp anyway, so be prepared to loose some of the quality regardless of what you do, although I'm sure Loxy will try to what he can to keep it looking good.
As for an award - I think they should have CCP awards for everything to do with the pod pilots of EVE, complete with forum shiney add-ons...but as for me, thanks for the suggestion, but there are better tutors of EVE out there that probably deserve an award more than I do .

HALP PLOX!
I've been frapsing a few things just to hold on toand i decided to throw it together into a movie. However when i export the video is messed up.
a little back ground (in case it helps):
1) if i view the fraps files directly they look fine 2) the preview (i'm using adobe CS3) they look fine...
but when i go to export it (I've tried multiple ways including following what you do in the tutorial step by step) it appears as though the frame size was shrunk then re-expanded (so each of the pixels are massive and it looks like it was filmed in really low resolution). Any help would be apreciated

Change the codec from Cinepak codec by Radius to uncompressed, or lagarith, of huffyUV, anything but Cinepak...
If that is not the problem, then try an Adobe media encoder for WMV or Quicktime.

If you watch the APP rendering tutorial and go to Time index 8:57. There is a tab in there for 'compressor' and this is what you will be setting as indicated above.
Or change the project settings on the fly using the project settings tab in the main toolbar pull-downs at the top of the screen, whilst in the normal Adobe interface. Project=>Project Settings=>General=>Video Rendering=> etc
I may have the menu slightly wrong, as I use CS4 now, so it's from memory.

Uploaded twice now - I have no clues as to why it does not download, as the preview seems to work just fine and the file itself plays just fine on my rig, regardless of whether I use media player classic, WMP, DivX player, vlc, etc.

Thanks AlleyKat for the tutorials, they are a great help!
I recently bought Sony Vegas 9 Platinum to use with my new video camera and I have decided to try my hand at making EVE videos as well. Is there any way to get the Pro Type Titler for the non-Pro version? I really like what it does but I don't want to (and can't) put out the money for the pro version.
Thanks! |

Well, to my limited knowledge the pro-type titler is only for Pro. However, I see nothing wrong with downloading the trial version of Pro Linkage and just playing with the titler. You should be able to export title work, and I'd probably suggest making as many titles as you can during the trial, for future usage.

Thanks again, AlleyKat. I'm going to do that.
One more question, what program should I use to record voice overs? I know Teamspeak has a Record function but I'm not sure how good that is or how clear the sound is. Going to try and test it later this week but I wanted to check if there was a better way.
Thanks!

Ventrilo is much better if you absolutely have to do it over the internet and use a high quality codec mandated on the server side of things. To record, use the "Record/Playback" function. This saves the recording as a Ventrilo specific file. To get it into a usable format, you'll have to use a sound mixing program such as the free Audacity or the not-so-free Adobe, Sony, or Pro Tools suites to make what is called an analog rip of the file. This basically entails playing back the Ventrilo recording (in the Ventrilo program) while recording on the digital audio editing suite through a function on your soundcard typically called What You Hear, StereoMixer, or sometimes Wave. You can find information on that by typing "What You Hear" into Google.
Otherwise invest in a good XLR microphone and some windscreens. There's also the option of handing a script over to a professional to be done for a price.

^^That's good advice from Kyoko there, Jonas.
Additionally, don't forget that Fraps will record audible sound, which would include TS/Vent/eve-voice etc. It's not perfect, but if all you want to record is 'fleet-noise', it'll do the job.
Incidentally, I use a fairly cheap Microphone, and if you see the most recent tutorial - the section on setting up the camera on sisi, all sound for this was recorded with Fraps.

Thanks Kyoko and thanks again AlleyKat!
I'm glad to know FRAPS records voice chat as well so that will be handy. Also, I discovered that Sony Vegas 9 has an option to record voice so I can use it as a cheap way to record my voice overs if FRAPS doesn't do the job good enough.

Very nice guides! i like coz im a donkey at editing :) having said that;
http://www.autogk.me.uk/
pls use this for encoding coz 1/3 of all vids posted r ****ed up resolutionwise. i promise any idiot can code vids in original res with this tool. (xvid7divx) no reason to use fail formats like mkv. who cares about size these days? its all about quality and usabillity right?
encoding is a mans job. polishing off is for the metros and girls. :)
and run it through whatever polishshop u want that the guys above mention.
serioulsy! if u guys cant encode a frapsed avi to xvid using auto guadian knot u shouldnt waste more time with this. go **** belts instead.

I got an issue with Sony Vegas 8. I try to render my video with a resolution of 1680x1050. If i try to encode it as a *.wmv it crashes after around 10 seconds. I tried to render it as an *.avi now and now it seems to stop at around 2 minutes. Is there any way to fix this?
I'm using a Quad core, 8800 GT and 2 Gig of Ram.
