I'm not sure if I can give you the orginal idea of the button, I only know it is most commonly used to turn mwd offline in station so you can go fight without the gimping effects of 25% less cap and shields and then bring the mwd online only when its time to run.
Same effect could be used for other perticular mods in game but the mwd one was most widely used.
I would also like to hear the original idea of this button.

When you need to run from the rats, then you prolly won't have 95% capacitor to turn it on. But i do agree that it will be used mostly for mwd.

The way I understand it you can now fit more items than you have grid/cpu for .. and then toggle items off to put others on in flight (turn off a tachyon, turn on an XL sb comes to mind ?) . ----- Apologys for any rambling that may have just occurred.

No point in doing that mid-combat with the cap requirements (need 95% cap to turn something on, leaves you with 33%).

If you're in sufficient trouble to need to turn off a tachyon to get a module online, you're screwed - you need 95% cap to switch a module on.
This is the lamest change ever.

True but if you're in such a state where you NEED to turn it on you'll have one of two situations arising:
- You won't have 95% cap and therefore won't be able to switch the module online
- You'll end up with 33% cap and that's only enough for one burst of MWD in most ships - how far do you think your battleship will get out of one burst?

I think this is a great change ... makes it easier to travel and once at your destination you can turn off the MWD and fight. I never liked the idea of having an emergency MWD on the ship with no penalty at all...

And you promise you don't dislike this chance because you've been exploiting (not that kind of exploting) the possibility to actually fit MWDs offline?
I see nothing wrong with it.

I never make promises
I never exploit either so *poke* for that.
I must admit, though, that my dislike for the change comes from the "95%" rule - it makes the new ability rather limited.

Hey, I did say not that kind of exploiting. I mean exploit = "use". Not exploit = "use" as in cheating.

I didn't really mean mid-combat :) just moving around .. fulfilling different roles without having to refit . ----- Apologys for any rambling that may have just occurred.

From what I can tell this change was implemented for two reasons.
1. To provide a solution to bug-fixing the offline MWD issue. ---- Make it look less like a nerf/bug fix, and more like a new function. 2. To help people who do combat agent missions\travelers\and deep space freelancers. ---- Get where you're going quickly and have all of your firepower once you arrive.
This change isn't for active PVPers... With the exception of some specific setups I feel that MWDs have no place in PVP. Why would you sacrafice the extra capabilities of 1 mid slot for a "save your ass" device? Doesn't make sense. The most effective ship is going to be the one that's equiped to perform a role the best it can.

As mention in a recent Dev Chat or CSM (I cant rememebr which) this change is the first step towards in-space refitting. Once they've got the bugs out of this on/off toggling they'll look into allowing us to refit ships in space.

God bless them for inventing a way to lose more money when your ship blows up. Now you get *TWO* setups when you kill someone. =)

Yup. Even though I knew it would happen, it made me smile to turn an mwd off when on full cap, then try to turn it back on again immediately and be told that I could not as I only had 79% of my total cap available :)
Given the most common cap reduction item is the MWD, it would have seemed much more sensible to have the rule 75%, which is still high enough to cause problems in combat, but low enough that you don't get silly things like the above happening.

Oh, it's right in the context menu for the item in your ship status display.
And it's right where Reload would be for a turret that's already full, too

I don't mind refitting in space so long as it's not done like E&B did it. It ruins the immersion of being in space ship and replaces it with the typical 'avatar' style of MMOG's.
I'll support in flight refitting in a limited fashion, ie with the help of a support ship, POS repair facility, or something like that. I don't mind taking modules offline. But actually switching them out willy nilly a bit irritating.
