don't remove it, but have an option to turn it off for those with sensetive hearing.
Personally, I hadn't heard it until I turned winamp down...

This is freaking me out 
I'm used to hearing a ping sound while playing Eve when the headphone lead, which is hanging on a hook above me, occasionally hits the glass of beer I usually have on my desktop.
Now, everytime I jump I'm glancing to the side expecting to see a glass of beer

The "ping" is useful when you're deliberately turning a module on/offline, to let you know it worked. But to have it go off EVERY time you enter a system and your modules come back online, is plain stupid.
I guess we should be grateful that us guys flying battleships, with 19 modules fitted, don't hear "PingPingPingPingPingPingPingPingPingPingPingPingPingPingPingPingPingPingPing" every time we enter a system, as all 19 come online.
Take it out!!!!!!

Temporary fix:
1. find/record a .wav file with whatever you want as the beep (I took silence :)
2. save the file as:
res/Sound/ui/PrinterBeep02.wav
EVE will then use that one for the beep.
(do not use an empty file or eve will crash)
