I started the game in Sept...squeezed into E-Uni between wardecs. The information and experiences available there provide a critical step on the learning curve for Eve. Please don't get discouraged. You guys are made of better stuff than the people that are trying to inhibit your mission. Their attention spans are short, be patient.

I've never heard of the CCP alliance, but every corp in eve gets special treatment from other corps depending on their overall operations and goals. Are you really so naive as to assume that all corporations fight on a completely level playing field? Some corporations have spent significant time and resources to build up a level of trust and understanding with other alliances, and as such, should be expected to reap the rewards of these relationships. Its only good business. Life in this universe depends on your corporation's dealings with other political entities, especially outside of empire controlled space.
While Eve University is definitely not a powerhouse on the political scene, it has spent time and effort training new pilots, and in turn, these pilots filter into the larger alliances and corporations. This has lead to a significant power base being built up from the ground level. I must question how you cannot see the benefit to numerous corporations and alliances of getting new pilots already trained to an established level by a respected entity.
If your corporation cannot grasp those fundamental concepts of politics, perhaps you should consider disbanding and joining more experienced and better led group. I fear that your current instruction has left you woefully unprepared for the harsh reality of eve, with its dependence on politics and corporate relations.

Edited by: Random Incarnate on 03/01/2008 03:34:07 I've never been part of E-Uni, but I've heard nothing but great things about you guys. Wardecs are a part of EVE, something everyone really needs to experience at one point or another - it's just a matter of when. Hell, even while you're still learning it can be more fun than anything else. A few wards every now and then gives the students a real taste of EVE. The problem here is when it's so constant that players can't learn anything else.
To the Racketeers: morals still exist in EVE. Are you like this out of EVE? You can't hide behind your character and say "it's just a game" - it is a reflection of who you are. If you are indeed like this out of EVE, then I suggest you grow up. If you are not, prove it.
There's much more I would like to say, but I hold the reputation of my alliance and my corp in high regard.
EDIT: Seems the above poster said it much better than I could.

Thank you all for your support, as always.
Of course, the purpose of this announcement is to both recap over the last year of Eve University, but also discuss possible solutions to the ongoing problems of wars, and how they affect the Uni.
I hate to think just how many capsuleers we have missed in the last 6 months due to wars, and its good to see that very few share the Racketeers viewpoint - by their logic, I am confident New Eden would be a substantially quieter place than it is now.
So, if anybody has any suggestions as to how to reduce the frequency of war, then please let us know, however odd they may seem. We aren't having a problem with the wars themselves (we can clearly hold our own in a conflict), but their recent frequency is preventing us from our purpose - teaching.

I'm gonna jump right into suggestions here because anything I have to say about the Racketeers and their unhealthy obsession with griefing EVE University won't help the situation. So here we go:
#1 Change the way you recruit new players. Being part of a community, especially a learning one, doesn't require a change of corp ticker. I'd suggest changing recruitment to be two phases.
Phase 1 would involve limited forum membership and continued help in the EVE University public channel. The idea here is to give them basic survival info that would be needed when they join the actual corp and face constant war decs.
Phase 2 would be the point that they join the University in game. If phase 1 was done correctly then they will know how to travel safely, avoid being ganked on a station and so forth.
#2 Setup managed logistics. There are multiple ways to do this using courier contracts whether they be to NPC corp alts or to corp freighter pilots. You can have pre-arranged ops that don't have scheduled times, they simply haul whatever is available when the impromptu op is ready to go. If you need more info on this you can EVE Mail me for details.
#3 Combine your training classes to use your own numbers for protection. Teach PvP & mining at the same time in the same asteroid belt. This could take some planning and getting used to but it is possible.
That's all I've got for now. I'd definitely recommend looking into your options to see what might work. While I'd love to see the rest of the EVE community dealing with the Racketeers to get them to stop, it doesn't look like that will work. If you can change things so that you can deny them kills on a constant basis it's very likely that they will get bored with you.
Best of luck to you. o7 ------------- I am the n00b that time forgot. |

while i never ended up getting into Eve Uni myself (got into another help noob corp, although they didn't have the extensive resources and so I left them for a real PvP corp), as a relatively new player on the Eve scence I respect greatly what they are about. many of the game mechanics and tactics are not readily apparent, and I found myself asking far more questions of fellow corp mates than I expected as someone who normally picks things like this up easily.
Having Eve Uni is one way of creating a quick start for newer pilots, causing them to continue playing and eventually join the political or economic scene of the Greater Eve Universe. This creates more recruits for corps and alliances of all types, keeps the universe full, and even gives more money to the developers to not only to improve the game but to show other companies that a sandbox game like Eve Online has the potential for real success.

In Sept 07, I was in search of a new game to play. I tried many, subscribed to none. I came across EvE again, for the second first time. I remembered it back in Beta and how confusing it was. I dropped it when it went live. I thought what the heck, it's a free client and I get 14 days to see how hows it's changed. I subscribed within the first week of the trial, I was that impressed. It was the level of detail and granularity of the game that caught my attention.
I found some really nice players lurking around outside the tutorial areas who were generous with supplies and helpful with gameplay. One player Invited me to his corp. That corp Split and formed a new Corp. That new corp split and I decided to find something suitable for me.
I searched the inter-web for days before dropping my roles and leaving my bad luck with Corporations behind. I found a couple corps I liked and sent applications. I had numerous invitations on hold with stated grounds that "If I don't get into E-UNI, I will call you back. If you'll still have me after I leave E-Uni, I'll give you a call." Everyone involved was understanding.
I had my eye on E-UNI from the start, determined to get in. I waited for a war to end before speaking with a recruiter and got into the Corp with a very narrow peacetime window. I had not been in the UNI for more then two weeks and we were at war again. To this day, it's been war.
Since joining, I have taken many tutorials that real everyday people behind real every day computers with real everyday lives have put together with their own free time and good will. I have gone to the EVE gate for a tour. I have learned fleet movement. I have also learned Ship roles and various loadouts for those ships. I have more wisdom and understanding about fleet communcation. My skills are now more focused and geared towards my style of game play in general. I have never experienced anything like this in my 10 years of MMO gaming. I will never play another game without first comparing it to the richness of EVE, it's players and their dedication.
My learning curve has been drastically reduced and my eyes been torn wide open to a new universe of gaming. My thanks goes to the dedication of real people behind the game and this corporation go far beyond any level of appreciation I could possibly show.
With Eve University in my Employment History (slash resume) I am sure to get more enjoyment out of this game far beyond my imagination for years to come.

How about some of those corporations supportive of Eve University pledge to declare war on any corp that attacks Eve University? I imagine a few veteran corps hunting down any corp that tries to disrupt this valuable institution would quickly make them lose their appetite for war.

Ding Ding Ding!!!!
Just because EVE University is neutral does not mean that every corp, that believes that what EVE Uni provides is a valued aspect of EVE, can not role down on the Yaynkateers. EVE University is neutral in the sense that they will not pick sides in any conflict. They have accepted donations from corporations in the past. A good number of established Corps/Alliances should be willing to make one or separate war decks on organizations that the Uni can not effectively handle. The University should be able to handle a war deck, but the EVE community should not tolerate constant harassment from weak minded pilot corporation that pull down the EVE Uni operations.
I can not wait to join and assist with the mission of the University. For now I will have to be happy assisting new pod pilots in the Federal Navy Academy.
Keep it Kicking EVE Uni and for EDEN's sake pilots get you corps together and jump them Yaynkers.

Eve University just got another wardec from some corp called FRIEND CORP. This really is taking the **** guess more Yarrs and Warbeer to lift the uni's spirits. Hope we can get them on there knees and camp them 24/7 within a day.
They have no idea what they have gotten themselves into, we have our big guns back from holiday together with some very very very mad Uni students who got there heavily fought for peacetime ruined.
We will make Eve drip in blood of our enemies.

Edited by: ICdead People on 08/01/2008 18:56:48 Edited by: ICdead People on 08/01/2008 18:55:44 Perhaps it is time for EU to expand. I propose the idea of creating and maintaining an Eve University Campus Guard of EU-trained players that is armed and at the ready to respond to war decs. If potential threats see that EU has the capacity to dispatch trouble right when it starts, they will probably not war dec EU to begin with.
You have many supporters here, which is obvious even after a few days of reading your public channel chat, never mind talking to players at large in the game. I doubt you would have much trouble recruiting members for this force even among alts of EU members and former EU members, besides the player base in general. Please consider and try it before just discounting the thought. You can't just let bullies walk all over years of your own dedication and hard work. Groups like Racketeers are just afraid too many well-trained pilots will emerge and prevent them from continuing to bully new players, so they're trying to stem the tide before it pulls them under once and for all.
Personally, it has been frustrating not being able to join EU, but since I do believe that even motivated newbies can ban together against threats, I would love the chance to be trained by any EU staff even from within a new Campus Guard EU arm and fight these war deccers that way. If you still maintain a policy of "no new players" to avoid potential spies even in this proposed new Campus Guard, I can understand that, though.
But please don't give in to bullying, and consider the idea of an EU Campus Guard. I bet it would really rock.

When I came online tonight I saw we had another wardec, this time from "P0150N 1VY CORP", an alt corp.
I applaud the ingenuity of the CEO. His bio:
Quote: Absoluely no hostile actions will be taken against Eve University.
They are well worth protecting, and I am willing to pay for a war until the end of the galaxy to prove that is the case.
For anyone considering wars, you should think again - by declaring war on them, you damage Eve itself, including yourself. They will never cease fighting, and are a formidable force.
I bow to P0150N 1VY, whoever he is as his main, in respect.
I am a 4 month old player. I have tried to get into Eve-Online at least 3 times in the past two years, but this time I got hooked and I can tell you for sure that it is because of the help that Eve University gave me with the learning process of this multi-layered game and getting familiar to the different aspecs. As a new player, you get really easily overwhelmed by everything Eve has to offer.
I'd also like to note that I don't dislike the wars, but it gets tiresome to keep missioning to a minimum while we got a war going.

EVE University is one of the nicest corps in the game. Especially as a new player you can't really go wrong with applying with them...
Most people who wardec them are bullies, nothing more - Real world comparisons and reasoning about why they should not be bothered by the wardecs are somewhat lacking, considering that war is at least meant to have a meaning beyond "wanting to be a pain in the arse".
Just because it's possible doesn't mean you have to do it.

Personally I think Eve Uni is doing a great job and any corp/alliances declaring on them is doing a few things:
1.getting a bad name in Eve.Why?because Eve Uni has a great reputation and is respected and appreciated by all major corps and alliances 2.asking for trouble. Eve Uni may be a teaching university, however they have experienced leaders, experienced pilots and enthusiastic students. That makes for a deadly combination

Eve Uni fills a learning vacuum as well as helps players begin to form meaningful social relationships. They do a lot of hard work to benefit eve as a community, and that should be respected. Of course there will always be the occasional clowns that don't, but meh, they'll fade away like all the ones before them. Happy new year Eve Uni, keep it up! ___________________________

First I'd like to apologise for going a bit off-topic on this thread. Anyway, here goes:
I'm a rather new player and have never heard about Eve University until now (Have been playing for about a month now, 1.5mill skillpoints approximately).
Is Eve University an Alliance, Corp or whatnot? I'm part of a small corperation with about 6 people (All of us IRL friends (actually from a place called Aalborg University :P) who just recently started playing Eve. Would Eve University be something for us to consider? If so, how does one come in contact with Eve Univeristy?
Regards, Giligamesh (Yes, Gilgamesh was taken :/ )

Yes i would recommend eve university to your and your friends. The game EVE has a huge learning curve and joining EVE-UNI will help you be a better pilot. The UNI holds classes that cover everything you want to know. I was in the UNI for a little over 6 months and would recommened the school to anyone that is new to ever looking to be a better pilot. To contact recruitment officers i know they are based in the KORSIKI system. Good Luck! Please visit your user settings to re-enable images. |

Although I don't think it'll ever be a reality, since my friends doesn't seem to be up to the idea, since that'd mean we have to disband our current corp.
Anyway, as a newbie I can say that Eve University definitely has a place in Eve, and that some people defiitely can use Eve University if they strive to learn the game and become a good Eve pilot. My problem was that I didn't notice them earlier than now, and I bet many people miss the fact that Eve University even exists since not many are forum-whoring (Especially not when being a newbie).
Anyway, best of luck, Giligamesh
